Man, I hope not. There are enough scripters in there to take the fun out of it as it is.

Bob made a script for this. It's called breakgs, it's somewhere on the PC. It runs the Pennant Chase script so beautifully, it will break GS on how many prizes you get.

Theres no way to play without a script. IMO.

I'm not an idiot.

I can't even imagine how fucking ridiculously better .breakgs would've been had I written it for JSE. Being able to straight up match %adjective% %color% would've been FUCKED UP.

.breakgs still owned Pennant Chase, though.

That I'll disagree with. I used to play using macros and did pretty well. There's just so many people now that it's lost its appeal for me.

The macro vs. script argument has never made sense to me. Macros are just running a script where you're the parser deciding which match label to use.

Well, to my mind, scripts are much faster because they can match and send in commands immediately, where we have to determine whether to send a command, and then enter it in. It's a lot harder to compete with a script, even if you're using macros.

I tried once...I realized it was virtually impossible after room two.

I've never done a pennant chase... what exactly does it entail that makes it potential scriptable but then unscriptable?

I never cracked the top 5 in PC, I was usually in the top 10. Though I will say those 5 were clearly scripting.

I've tried competing w/out a script, and the best I could get was 5th or so. You just have to stay as far away from those scripters as you can. Maybe follow the trail BEHIND them

<<what exactly does it entail that makes it potential scriptable but then unscriptable?>>

You have to run around a map, which changes every round [this is easily programmed], and tag people who are not on the same team as you [designated by color, this is easily programmed]. All the while, there are pennants running around [ie., a ruby red pennant] that you have to point your baton at to claim -- if you get 'tagged', you lose one of your pennants and someone else can claim it [all of this, again, is easily programmed]. Anyone who isn't using Wizard/SF engines should be able to fully automate it with one generic script and never have an issue.

Clearly scripting cuz they were better than you? ;)

I have always used two F-key macros for Pennant Chase - one to pick up pennants, and one to tag others. And 99% of the time i'd place in the top 5. Probably 60-75% of the time i'd place in the top 3, depending on how many people were playing.

I could picture using liche to grab all the player names on the opposing team and store them in variables, and then wave at any of the opposing team members.

I could PICTURE this, but Ive never dicked around with lich so I've no real clue ;p

How are they "designated by color" does it say "Also here: A blue Bobmuhthol"? or does it actually highlight them blue? If it highlights them blue I'm very curious about this, I was unaware that SF or FE had the ability to accept ad-hoc highlights.

As for the scripting, if it is some sort of color that follows the person around you don't need lich to keep a list, it could see the color and respond at the time.

Pfft on scripting. I win PC games using point and click with the mouse in Stormfront. :)

Cel, the way it works is as this:

For pennants, they have a color adjective that follows them, but theres a wide range of colors, prolly 15 or so.

the issue is players and the team they belong to. Far as I can tell the only way to know is to look at your baton, which creates a list of everyone in the game and their team. A different program, even psinet could parse that info and pull the names of the opposing team into variables that we could work with.

Just moving around rooms - no you dont know whose on what team.

If you're using SF, available pennants and people open for coloring by you will be highlighted. I believe they use the monsterbold color.

My ex didn't script at all and beat people who did. You're either scripting or macroing heavily though. I've gotten top 5 macro-ing. It's just an issue of input/reading/processing speed.

There's a command that shows you everyone in the game and the team they're on, so all you have to do is build a database within the script that knows who to hit.

I've placed 3rd or so w/o scripts or macros...although it was a magic round :) Invis plus being able to type relatively fast ftw

I love Pennant Chase. Also I won a few times and only used point and click with SF. Thanks to Kembal who explained that to me:P. I bet a bunch of people where using scripts but the point and click really helped me. I love the game hope it becomes a monthly thing.

Ps. If anyone does have a script and wants to PM me it that would be great too.

The last time I played, I'm fairly certain SF didn't exist.

no macros, no scripts, heavy scripters in play got 5th ish

macroed up, got third place like 10 rounds in a row behind two scripters, or 1 scripter and another macro user.

earned temporary title "pennant chase third-placer"

Hmm, what are you doing with macros? Maybe I am just playing it wrong.

The pennants change colors so often youd need like 15 macros for them, and around 10 or so macros to wave the baton at all th enemy players...

publishing a lich type script for this would completely break the whole PC game, i am not publishing mine because i'm using the rule of "take the time and learn how to write it...and you could write it to"

This coming sunday im going to finally get my damn PC bag!

LOL, the WORST it could do at this point is make it fair by putting everyone on the same playing field. You just dont want that for obvious reasons.
