It might be this liberal "Oh you can do it!" mentality of gamers, but dwarves I think are just poorly suited for combat. You need to be quick and reach is very important, being stocky and running around like a penguin just doesn't cut it.

The fact is if dwarves should be marked for extermination.

I am not sure what you are basing you opinion on here, but it is obviously not research and experience.

The speed factor does not really play into the equation. Base speeds for melee weapons are the same across the board unless you have a negative modifier for low strength, agility or improper armor training. The only way you are going to swing any faster is with haste.

I see what you mean by reach...

!R>amb jarl left eye
You cannot aim that high!

However, as a wise instructor once told me, "it is easier to bring the head to the foot than the foot to the head."

!>amb jarl left leg
You swing a perfect mithril mattock at an Illoke jarl!
AS: +570 vs DS: +256 with AvD: +39 + d100 roll: +15 = +368
... and hit for 136 points of damage!
Left leg ripped from socket at the knee!
The Illoke jarl rumbles in agony as he teeters for a moment, then tumbles to the ground with a thundering crash!
The Illoke jarl is stunned!
Roundtime: 7 sec.
!R>
An Illoke jarl blinks dazedly a moment before shaking off the stun!

!R>.head jarl
[Script head is running, Esc to cancel, Shift-Esc to pause]
>stance offensive
>ambush jarl head
[script done]
You are now in an offensive stance.
!>
You swing a perfect mithril mattock at an Illoke jarl!
AS: +570 vs DS: +179 with AvD: +39 + d100 roll: +50 = +480
... and hit for 181 points of damage!
Mighty swing separates head from shoulders.
The Illoke jarl grumbles in pain one last time before lying still.
The very powerful look leaves an Illoke jarl.
The white light leaves an Illoke jarl.
The dull golden nimbus fades from around an Illoke jarl.
Roundtime: 7 sec.

Now, warriors in general have crappy TD, we all know this. Dwarves, on the other hand, have a really nice TD bonus. Dwarven warriors, thus, are one of the best combinations in that regard. Throw in a better rate for Spirit regen for CoL signs and a natural bonus to poisons and you are ahead of the crowd right out of the gate.

I could write pages upon pages of example as to why Dwarves make excellent warriors. Instead of doing so, I'll just leave you to ponder the above and perhaps reassess you opinion. When you are done with that, perhaps you can tell me what is wrong with this sentence...

The fact is if dwarves should be marked for extermination.

Dwarves aren't handicapped what so ever. The height is really negligible. Most old critters are being proned anyways before you swing for RT/- DS so does it really matter?

Durfin covered most of the bases. I swear if I see another dark elf I am going to toss my cookies. Now gnomes/halflings have some trouble with the encumberence issues. I have a very strong/fit 33rd level gnome cleric, and after one box I cry, and trying to drag.......thank goodness for 130.

Dwarves can carry a crap ton. granted not nearly as much as a giantman, but on par, and above everyone else.

This is coming from someone who has played a dwarven warrior to 64th and a dwarven wizard to 74th. They are both still a blast to play. The grunts kick major tuckus, and then you have everything else mixed in.

Also with con bonuses and high constitution, I swear my highly durable wizard has taken some shots I've seen completely incapacitate others without even a stun. There has been times with my wizard I am looking at the screen and wondering why I don't have a stun after getting molestered.

I do wish the midgets were looked at game wise though. The encumbrance has always been an issue, and now with alchemy ingredients to lug around. I am not talking "coming back from hutning with a ton of boxes" either. It'd just be nice to see a caster gnome/halfling be able to wear armor/containers/usually carryables around wihtout already being encumbered : (

We definitely need more gnomes and halflings in the lands.

If Physical Fitness ever gave a reduction in encumbrance, I'd play one.

The only problem with that idea is empaths then become even better mules than they already are.

They make great sorcerers once you get past the lower CS of a dark elf. Better than giants due to the lack of a maneuver penalty due to size. Great spirit regen, high health and high str/con.
