I only used the Squares and Semi's because the limit is set to 10 choices.
I also figure that Pures have the largest incentive to go CoL for mana purposes.

All of them - CoL.

The AS bonuses can't be beat. +40 for 3 mana and 1 sp? Awesome.

+35... But I'm also considering switching from Voln to CoL for the TD bonus.

I just hate that I'd lose my ability to fog groups

I was voln for the whole life of my ranger until almost cap....and then I ran out of revs. I was always conscious about what I used, and never had more then about 300 revs, ever. I only used courage, protection, need, and the lifekeep one, most only when I needed. I made the switch about 45 days or so ago, and have never thought twice about it. It is nice not having to worry about hunting for favor, and the TD bonus is nice. I miss need and lifekeep once in a while...but the reality of just departing due to not wanting stuff to get stolen has taken place; after all, I don't die that much....no biggie.

yeah, I won't like having to walk DOWN from the rift either, since I can fog to pinefar with Symbol of return, but I think my decision is about done, I'm probably gonna switch to CoL

You can sign of darkness from the cavern to pinefar too.

The best thing about Voln is being able to absolutely obliterate noncorp undead with sym holiness. If you never hunt ncu, it's hard to mechanically justify being in Voln.

Is it possible to leave voln and, return to CoL after you've left it before.

well, my ranger gets a lot of mileage out of voln fu since archer/brawl is a pretty good combo hunting and tp wise. I really don't miss the +9as/ds difference and I haven't reached the point where my td starts to suffer

There's a whole long thread in the Game Balance thread about Voln vs CoL.

It's mostly a matter of personal preference. There are undeniable tangible benefits that one offers which the other doesn't.

CoL:
- After level 30, it's relatively easy to maintain +35 AS/+35 DS/+15 TD for an entire hunt
- Sign of Wracking is invaluable for casters
- Sign of Staunching and Healing are pretty nifty for squares
- Sign of Darkness is pretty cost prohibitive
- Sign of Thought is handy, but not exactly irreplaceable
- Signal is useless, as are Possession, Hypnosis, and Hopelessness

Voln:
- Group fog with 0 RT is sweet
- Voln Fu is way overpowered
- Self LK and thought net are handy
- Symbol of Restoration can be used while webbed
- Symbol of Mana is way too costly to be used with any frequency
- Symbol of Sleep, Turning, Kick/Throw/Punch I are all useless
- Being a favor bitch sucks

Hypnosis is useful if you're all swarmed and shizleznod and want to kill stuff one critter at a time for the cost of only 1 SP, imho, not that it's anywhere near as useful as the other signs.

Wracking outweighs anything Voln -- For a paladin (i.e.) who wants to get the last bit in from a hunt, I've found 1630'ing everything with an orb after wracking and then 1615'ing the rest of the crap is way more eventful than anything Voln could provide: This is especially useful at higher trains.

Voln's Fu has a brawling prerequisite. You aren't given a choice, which really sucks if you play a square and want to have training points for other purposes, although I suppose it's not entirely tremendous sacrifice. The thing is that you're still:
Being a favor bitch[/img]

And have to structure your gameplay moreso (as a square) than you would if you were CoL.

I think a nerf is coming to COL. Several GMs have been eyeing it for a while, and I really hope it isn't the case, but eh. They will likely do it as an incentive to join that damned third society.

If they fuck up wracking, though, hunting as a pure is going to become a lot more tedious. Not being able to cast the spells you want, when you want would likely cause me to lose interest in this game in the longterm.

Combining categories, minus Alfie's votes....

CoL - 41 votes - 60.3%

Voln - 27 votes - 39.7%

How about the Voln thing where you can absorb exp faster? Never made it that far in Voln, though that is my main reason for even trying right now.

I switched to Voln as a sorc around lvl 45. I had plenty of mana for a hunt and Voln had more benefits to me.

If you're a cleric and in Voln you're not paying attention to the game.
