I'm curious to see what everyone has for Multi-Opponent Combat training... mostly to see how (un)common it is to see people going past 45 or 70 ranks.

(Feel free to post with exact training...)

(D'oh. I suppose I should've made the poll a multi-selection thing, since people have multiple characters.)

I have 30 ranks as a 39 warrior. Will probably go higher eventually but I dont want my mstrike roundtime to get any higher while swinging a polearm.

10/3 as a rogue makes me say no.

Of my 3 cool dudes, the 2 warriors had 5 ranks each just for 2 opponents, and the paladin had 0. I thought the skill was pretty damn useless after the nerf.

Ranger with 5 ranks, plan to go up to 30 to offset FoF.

I guess I'm behind the times... what nerf?

You used to get a lot more swings from it. And I think haste worked with it at some point?

I think there is a way to limit how many swings you take, even if you are capable of more.

Someone wanna chime in there on how to do it?

hmm that would be good to know. I stopped at 30 so I would have the 3 swings unfocused and 2 swings focused. Not really sure what the benefit is to training higher though. Its rare than im up against more than like 3-4 critters.

The old rule was every 5 ranks was a new opponent and every 20 ranks was a new swing on the same opponent.

You may also use the MSTRIKE command(s) by typing it into the command prompt.
MSTRIKE - When used as a standalone command, MSTRIKE will attempt to strike as many creatures in the room as your skill allows.
MSTRIKE <target> - This is a Focused MSTRIKE, which attempts to strike a single target multiple times.
MSTRIKE SET # - Sets the maximum strike attempts for multi-target MSTRIKE.
MSTRIKE SET FOCUS # - Sets the maximum strike attempts for Focused MSTRIKE.
MSTRIKE HELP - Displays this usage information

Huh, interesting... I guess I didn't have enough MoC training (or didn't care about it) before they re-worked it to know about that.

Assuming my data's still right (and I honestly don't know if it is or not, since I don't read the officials very much)... 30 ranks only covers 2.5-ish critters:

The amount of Multi-Opponent Combat training required to fully offset another attacker has been adjusted to come at ranks 10, 25, 45, and every 25 ranks thereafter. (10, 25, 45, 70, 95, 120, 145, 170, 195)

Every rank of MOC counts towards reducing the defensive reduction for multiple attackers, rather than increasing in steps at specific rank thresholds. For example, if a character has 5 ranks of MOC and 10 are required to fully offset the first additional attacker, this character will only lose half of the defensive reduction that would normally apply when facing two attackers.

Depending on the weapon, more than 2 swings can be just plain stupid.

With a lance, its just plain stupid, thats why i stopped at 30.

The old rule was every 5 ranks was a new opponent and every 20 ranks was a new swing on the same opponent.

You also didn't get winded after mstriking, and could sustain Haste or Haste II through a multistrike attack, so you could just continue dropping mstrikes one after the next.

Then it was just a matter of how crazy you wanted to get with it. MoC + TWC + Haste II + flaring or feras weapons, was pretty fun if you could deal with the choking amounts of screen scroll you'd generate.

Shit, I forgot about the cooldown effect. That was another major reason why the nerf made mstrike completely useless, though I do remember haste dropping automatically when you used mstrike.

Edit: Pretty sure the haste thing was a different time, which explains why one happened and not the other. I didn't mind the haste change so much (especially because I never used it and wasn't affected when they put it in), but the major nerf (everything else) sucked so bad for the skill.

As a rogue, I'd much rather spend 2/1 on ambush and do a one shot kill shot on the head. 10/3 is just so damn costly.

Although I did train up to 15 ranks so I could stun 3 critters at the same time if I didnt want to get caught out in the open. <--- The only real benefit for me

Generally, I think MOC is retarded. I would much rather aim than hope I bleed something out or have a chance at a vital crit.

Unless you're hunting non-corp.
