I made a rogue yesterday and, she's really fun. Downside is, she's getting way more MTP's than PTP's.

These are her stats now.
Name: XXXX Race: Human Profession: Rogue (not shown)
Gender: Female Age: 0 Expr: 28169 Level: 5
Normal (Bonus) ... Enhanced (Bonus)
Strength (STR): 86 (23) ... 86 (23)
Constitution (CON): 52 (1) ... 52 (1)
Dexterity (DEX): 84 (17) ... 84 (17)
Agility (AGI): 92 (21) ... 92 (21)
Discipline (DIS): 71 (10) ... 71 (10)
Aura (AUR): 71 (10) ... 71 (10)
Logic (LOG): 76 (18) ... 76 (18)
Intuition (INT): 45 (3) ... 45 (3)
Wisdom (WIS): 56 (3) ... 56 (3)
Influence (INF): 43 (-3) ... 43 (-3

I don't know much about rogues other than what I collected from a couple of friends. All my life I've only played empaths and sorcerers, so meh. And she's a ambusher so don't want to affect that. She's a fighter not a picker either.

Help pretty please?

What style are you looking to use for weapons? Ranged, sword / board, etc. That will make a big difference. IMO, if you are not going to pick, you should make up a ranger. You get more bonuses with the spells for hiding and such.

Generally it's easier if you can post lvl 0 Stats, but I backtracked them...

You get 53 PTP and 39 MTP per level right now, You will have 5638 PTP and 4272 MTP at cap. Obviously it sounds like you're using all your PTP and you keep seeing the gain of MTP when it converts back from PTP.

Post your current skills and what you think is lacking about you... I think the stats look pretty decent, your strength is a smidge high if you want to continue to use it for growth, capping out at lvl 27.

She uses OHE/shield and these are her skills right now.

Skill Name | Current Current
| Bonus Ranks
Armor Use..........................| 30 6
Shield Use.........................| 30 6
Combat Maneuvers...................| 58 12
Edged Weapons......................| 66 14
Ambush.............................| 58 12
Physical Fitness...................| 58 12
Dodging............................| 58 12
Stalking and Hiding................| 78 17
Perception.........................| 66 14
Pickpocketing......................| 45 9

Meh, thats what I was thinking. I just really dont like the fact that I end up having to use MTP's. I guess there's no way around it is there? I thought I could even her out with a rank or two in harness power for col.

Also, is there anything to lose a bit of the roundtime while ambushing? Right now it's at 5 sec, which isn't all too bad, but I onced used a rogue and he did the same and only had 3 sec round time.

Your RT is going to depend on what weapon you're using. You won't be able to swing any weapon in 3 seconds except a dagger. Shortswords you can swing in 4, along with rapiers I believe. Just about every other ohe is 5 second minimum, add a second for ambush.

If you're not picking, I'd drop perception down some say 1.5x at most. CM is pretty expensive so 2x'ing it is gonna use up a ton of points. You can get by with less. For most critters, there's really no need to go over 2x hiding either imo.

As for ambushing rt, there are a few factors that go into it. The base rt of the weapon, your dex/agi bonuses, encumberance and what armor you are wearing and whether you're fully trained for it.

From what I have learned from reading around the boards, you can get away with 1x in Ambush. I would put those points to use in armor and shield. Since you are not a spell user, get to as heavy an armor as you can as fast as you can.

I may be wrong, please correct me if I am, is 2x in dodge necessary if you are a shield user? If not, again, I would put it into armor and shield.

Dodge is insanely cheap for rogues... 2x dodge is fine.

Hmm. alright. What armor would you suggest for her to use? And how many ranks as well? I know absolutely nada about armor after doubles.

My rogue wears MBP, thinking it's 75 to 80 ranks. I can't remember right off the top of my head.

As for dodge vs shield, I 1x shield, use a small shield and then 2.5x dodge.

Hm, what kind of armor should she use by train 10? Someone suggested I use doubles.

Celephais

Train 10 you could be @ 24 ranks armor (at a cost to other skills) which would be 102 skill, or -5 RT adder (some would tell you 20 ranks for 90 skill, which will get the RT, but leave you with a little extra hinderance... probably worth it if you are scarce on points). 5 RT is Studded leather... and then in another two levels (27 ranks @ 111 skill or 30 ranks @ 120 skill) you could move up to brig.

Personally, I usually just stick to doubles until I can wear brig.

This link will show you how many ranks you need for each armor type.

My same strategy for my rogue. At the lower trainings up until you can wear brig you are flying through anyway. Get some nice 4x doubles and roll with it until brig.

Does your AGI and DEX factor into how many trains in Armor you need until next? For example, if I DEX and AGI bonuses of 30+ , does that mean I can move up to brig at a rank earlier than 27?

From an RT Prespective the answer is... maybe.
Weapons have a base RT when swung, this is added to directly by armor penalty (which is adjusted by armor use, never below zero) and then reduced by AGI and DEX bonus. So if you're swinging a longsword with a base RT of 4, with an armor penalty of 1 second, with DEX+AGI of 0, you're still swinging at 5 seconds like everyone else... now with the -2 from DEX/AGI you're looking at being able to wear an extra 3 seconds of armor penalty. Just keep in mind that you're still penalized for manuevers, encumberance and other factors more harshly.
