View Full Version : Question about negative views towards paladins

I've noticed paladins ar enot held in the highest regard - and I would say the fct you can buy paladin characters for dirt cheap further illustrates that idea. I've looked through their spell lists and been told their AS gets higher than any other character in the game - why the negativity concerning them then?

Because they are the newest class. And playing one is like ez-mode Gemstones.

Because bubble hearth is gay.

AS isn't that important.

They're in essence less durable warriors with a few parlor tricks.

They have only 1 viable path... and they are terribly boring. More or less same deal/new messaging.

What do you mean by 1 viable path?

There's only one way to really train paladins. Unlike other classes, it's much harder to be a mutant paladin.

Post cap, though, I imagine they can outclass a warrior due to cranking up their spells and lores.

Hmm.....

Sword and Board, Pole arm, and I saw a ranged once... was wierd.

I am pole arm, myself.

Sword and board is the way to go for a Paladin due to the increased blocking spell.

Sword (or Blunt) and board is mutant now.

TWC brawler is the new black.

Hermann Goring was given the title Paladin...

Göring was the highest figure in the Nazi Hierarchy who had authorized on paper the "final solution of the Jewish Question"
And that's why everyone hates Paladins.

Post cap, though, I imagine they can outclass a warrior due to cranking up their spells and lores. It turns out no, because even in the far postcap limit paladins can only get 200 ranks of lore. If they could have unlimited lores (and no spell penalty to redux), then yes. We had a thread about this a little while ago, let me find it...

I'm contemplating how TWC brawling could be any good over, say, polearms. The DS should be about the same (or lack thereof), and you do not have the benefit of crit hunting. With a polearm, stuff drops withn a few blows. I've never played a brawling character however, and the last time I played brawling was a skill you trained for the icemule tavern, not to hunt.

I had a feeling, though it would be fun with all the CMANs nowadays.

I had a feeling, though it would be fun with all the CMANs nowadays.Paladins don't have access to any of the fun brawling maneuvers though. They're all either warrior-only or warrior/monk. Paladins do get cpress though, which is sorta suited to TWC brawlers, I guess.

What struck me as odd about paladins was someone mentioned not being polearms removed access to our two best cmans, charge and trip. He said it as if you would take both of those cmans, though I cant fathom why you would want two cmans that do the same thing

Latrinsorm
09-24-2007, 04:16 PM
Trip is not a best CMAN for anybody. Charge is pretty rad though.

The advantage to going polearms with a paladin is you don't obviate shield use; one thing at which a paladin is halfway decent.

Really? I assume you are speaking of the spell which adds a DF percentage? It works with polearms?

Latrin and I have been through this in serious mechanical detail. The paladin, at post cap (maximum lores) actually comes up shy to a warrior if the warrior is using self cast spirit strike (which by that degree of post cap training can easily use for each strike). Further, the paladin's spell list is truly decieving. At first glance, it looks better but if you really put together the numbers they don't come up any better then the warrior. The warrior imho has better defense, with the same offense as a paladin (don't let the "highest AS in the game" fool you). I recommend playing a warrior and joining voln/acquiring some spells in the spirit circle to mimic a paladin for RP and mech advantage.

Perfectly sums it up in my opinion. I just rerolled my 31 paladin into a warrior because of this and some RP reasons.

It took me ages just to get to 25. I would reroll, but dont feel like spending the next year getting back to that level. Is there seriously some trick to leveling I don't know?

It should take you about 1 month to get from 1-20 if you play 3-4 hours a day everyday.

There is no trick. Go hunt fry -> Do AG quest if you can -> sit at node...repeat.

I don't know. The first time I looked at the spell list, I scoffed at 1601 and pretty much stopped there. +5 to DS? How lame. 601 is +10 right out of the gate, bitches!

Yeah, kinda short-sighted, but they always just looked boring to me. So I never bothered rolling one up, never have, and keep forgetting they exist.

God I love these boards... its the only place I know where a number of people come to find answers and (should) KNOW that they will get flamed because some of the people that watch these boards have nothing else to do then to prove how big there e-peen is. Thats why you should only pay attention to the helpful replies and laugh at the post from the jackasses that have nothing better to do that show us how unbelievably low there personal self-esteem.

The Facts: Some of very intelligent GS players watch these board and provide a great amount of help to questions that they know the answers of.

You got your answer in this thread.
