Man dies after 3-day gaming binge.

BEIJING, China (AP) -- A man in southern China appears to have died of exhaustion after a three-day Internet gaming binge, state media said Monday.

The 30-year-old man fainted at a cyber cafe in the city of Guangzhou Saturday afternoon after he had been playing games online for three days, the Beijing News reported.

Paramedics tried to revive him but failed and he was declared dead at the cafe, it said. The paper said that he may have died from exhaustion brought on by too many hours on the Internet.

The report did not say what the man, whose name was not given, was playing.

The report said that about 100 other Web surfers "left the cafe in fear after witnessing the man's death."

China has 140 million Internet users, second only to the U.S.. It is one of the world's biggest markets for online games, with tens of millions of players, many of whom hunker down for hours in front of PCs in public Internet cafes.

Several cities have clinics to treat what psychiatrists have dubbed "Internet addiction" in users, many of them children and teenagers, who play online games or surf the Web for days at a time.

I wonder what these internet cafes are charging for use what with these internet binges being so common.

I wish my necessity to hold down a job was so lax that I could carve out three strait days to just video game binge.

I haven't read the article, I don't have time. But isn't that at least the 3rd death of this kind, in this envoironment now?

I bet he faked his own death to avoid paying the cafe bill.

Maybe this is an unfair stereotype, but it seems like people in China always take things (internet gaming, bukkake, brand worship) to the extreme.

Bukkake is japanese.

And brand worship... not so much a Chinese thing either. If something is made in China the first thought that usually comes to my mind is: cheap as hell.

Bukkake is japanese.

I know, but for this thread it's Chinese. Just because.

Yeah, at least.

I think I recall like two or three other cases of Asiatic-type gamers being not-so-alive after this sort of endevour.

Okay, so I clearly don't know enough about bukkake to know the specific Asian country of origin. (Probably a good thing).

Brand worship, yes. I'm not talking about things made in China, I'm talking about countless news stories about Chinese schoolgirls selling their bodies so they can afford to buy Balenciaga handbags and other things that are completely beyond their means. I would argue that they take American materialism to the next level.

It was a Triad thing.. I bet they forced him to play non-stop as punishment for not selling enough heroin to little schoolchildren.

In March 2005 the owner of an American adult bookstore chain was indicted by the federal government for, among other things, distribution of obscenity.
