Kapersky $0 after rebate ($60) for those of you looking for some good AV protection and don't trust the freeware/limitware for this job.

(Frys also has some other good deals if you feel like looking around... 750gb HD for ~180.)

Or you can download a torrent of Norton 360. Amazingly light on system resources, especially compared to the dreadful Norton Internet Security 05-07. And as a bonus, the torrent also features subscription plans up to 11 years.

Except that's illegal, but whatever.

Norton has slithered into everything on my computer and is spawning evil demons of lag, hangups, holdups, and runaway processes you can't kill with a big stick. And tech support is a parrot that has one standard answer, that does nothing to alleviate the problems.

Do I sound bitter?

Haha, I know Norton sucked but Norton 360 is a LOT better. Read the reviews.

Tried it last night for shits and grins. Holy shit. It really does use like Nil system resources (compared to any other commercial product I've used), and it's pretty smooth.

Wants to hold my hand a little too much, but for how well it works with such little demand on my system, Nortan might actually get a piece of my money again even after I said "Never again".

Damnit.

I have Norton 360. My problem seems to be with liveupdate in it running constantly, and being unable to stop it even using Symantec's fix, as this is a known issue. Process ccSvrHst.exe runs at 90-95% of cpu, so my system just hangs, nothing will work. I've had to disable most of Norton to be able to use IE. Can't run Trillian, IE together, can't run IE and GS together. Basically it bites. So I'm looking at deinstalling Norton and looking elsewhere.

Gotta love it. Sounded great.

That's interesting. Never heard of that one. The thing never uses jack resources here. Granted I've only monitored it for a day so far.

Norton is like the AOL of anti-virus software.

I'm definately glad I ditched Norton. I'm just not so sure that going with Trend was the best way to go. :(

Can't really go wrong with AVG.

Before Norton 360 I used NOD32, which so far, is the lightest AV software ever. Now I'm using 360 and notice no difference whatsover in system resources.
