Actually, Lincoln quite adamantly stated that he neither expected nor wanted blacks to be considered equal to white people.

Slavery is a quick and largely incorrect answer to why the Civil War actually happened. In reality, the causes of the war were much more deep-seeded, encompassing the economy, politics, culture, and morality (slavery).

I think someone else corrected it, it was Thomas Jefferson. I remember some program trying to trace the routes and mistakenly thought it was Lincoln. But yeah Lincoln never went to war to free the slaves.
