In the spirit of the snack cake diversion in the other thread... I thought I'd throw this out there since I have obvious favorites for certain occasions.

I'm going top 4 since there's a 4 image limit to each post.

http://blogs.tampabay.com/popmusic/images/funyuns_2.jpeg = All time, any occasion.

http://www.magic925.com/timages/page/munchos.jpg = for the driving munchies on long trips.

http://www.rhodesschool.com/blog/img/f18564/fritos.jpg = Because they come in so many different varities, and so many different snacks... like frito pie, plain with a sandwich, with bean dip, with any dip, in enchalada casserole... uber versatile.

And last but not least...
http://www.xbox666.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/06/doritos.jpg = This flavor specifically for nights when we play poker (Texas Holdem). I actually like many different flavors, so Doritos lands at #2 on the versatile list.

It is believed that the original potato chip recipe was created by Native American/African American chef George Crum, at Moon's Lake House near Saratoga Springs, New York, on August 24, 1853. He was fed up with a customer — by some accounts Cornelius Vanderbilt (although this has been called into question) — who continued to send his fried potatoes back, because he thought they were too thick and soggy. Crum decided to slice the potatoes so thin that they couldn't be eaten with a fork, nor fried normally in a pan, so he decided to stir-fry the potato slices. Against Crum's expectation, the guest was ecstatic about the new chips. They became a regular item on the lodge's menu under the name "Saratoga Chips." They soon became popular throughout New England. Eventually, potato chips spread beyond chef-cooked restaurant fare and began to be mass produced for home consumption; Dayton, Ohio-based Mike-sell's Potato Chip Company, founded in 1910, calls itself the "oldest potato chip company in the United States".

Before the airtight sealed bag was developed, chips were stored in barrels or tins. The chips at the bottom were often stale and damp. Then Laura Scudder invented the bag by ironing together two pieces of waxed paper, thereby creating an airtight seal and keeping the chips fresh until opened. In 1934 Akron, Ohio, potato chip maker K.T. Salem was the first to distribute chips in glassine waxed paper bags. Today, chips are packaged in plastic bags, with nitrogen gas blown in prior to sealing to lengthen shelf life, and provide protection against crushing.

My favoritest tater chips are probably salt & vinegar. I can't believe no one image-linked some Pringles up in the piece :(

Spicy- Dorito's Fiery Habanero, which haven't been sold around here for about 6 months now. :(
Sweet- Route 11 Sweet Potato Chips
Salty- Kettle Black Pepper and Sea Salt
Semi-Healthy- Baked Lays Cheddar and Sour Cream

I need some more habanero Dorito's though, someone hook it up. Last bag I had I won a bet with by eating the entire bag and a bottle of Tabasco in a few minutes with no drink.

CAPE COD! omgz I love thee! The russet chips are so effing good as well as the sea salt and cracked pepper and the jalapeno & Aged Cheddar.(the White cheddar popcorn is the best ever even if it isnt a chip ;) ). Curry flavored pringles..though ive never seen them in the USA, it makes me a sad panda, I loved those. Oh and im sure i'll get beef for it but GOOD prawn chips are goooood. Not the crappy ones mind you, they taste like ass but good ones are just..well good. I think I added good in that sentence enough, you get my point. All I can think of now in my halfasleep mind, I am glad I dont eat that sort of stuff often or have it around or I WOULD eat it..

Yes, yes you are. Salt & Vinegar is king on potato chips.

And Dipsy Doodles are king of corn snacks.

Salsa Doritos were the shit, but I haven't seen them on shelves in like 5 months.

Keebler Pizza Chips were awesome too, but they quit making those when I was like 14.

My standby now is Utz Salt and Vinegar.

Jimmy Johns Jalepeno chips rock.

Ms Vickies Jalepenos chips are second.

I just ate at a Jimmy John's sandwich shop yesterday for lunch. I had their salt n vinegar... reminds me a lot of the kettle style chips that you can get with other deli/resturant logos on the bag.

I'll look for their jalepeno chips next time I go there.
