So, most of the time, just as a precaution... before I put an arrow through someones eye for running there mouth, stealing, poaching and so on... I always try to FAME them and compare it to mine. And also to add I haven't played a low level character in a while ( anything < 20 ) and sure enough, some stupid halfing started attacking a Dhe'nar friend of mine while he was stunned so I FAMED him and he was around 49000, famed myself and I was only @ 8000. Surely I was gonna get my arse handed to me (or so I thought). drew my arrow and put one clean shot in his left eye. And after having to talk to the guy for a second explaining why what he did was a stupid Idea and trying to get my arrow back I find out he is only train 8. This knocked me outta my seat... how is this guys fame so much higher then myself but yet I am double his level?! Sure a level 16 person would have more fame then a level 8 yes? is something up with my fame? and... wtf?

Because you have shitty fame. I can get 8000 fame at level 1.

rell shitty fame then. I havent done anything diffrent with this guy then what I have with my other characters and they all have equal fame to others there level... donno...

It looks like you don't hunt very much. 8000 fame is hard to have at 16.

FYI, I just checked my level 16 warrior, he has 364k fame. Not played since the switch to GSIV, so he is probably a little behind for 16.

pure hunting rogue archer. hell even if he was a pure locksmith, that generates fame too doesn't it?

you sure you only have 8000 fame?

Picking boxes doesn't generate fame like hunting does. For that matter, I don't think healing does either.

There are huge differences between fame gain rates of people that hunt only during XXX and people that hunt most often while the bonus is off.

Gelston

Yeah, but it should be a lot more then 8000. Even if he had 3x less kills then my 16 warrior who never hunted during XXX, he should have about 100k worth of fame.

Doesn't the level of the mob count in the equation as well? I thought fame only started really racking up after your mind was full.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if someone was seriously under hunting and resting when full. You could theoretically keep your fame pretty low. I do the same thing to check and see what level people are. However, you really have to put empath/pickers into a different bag since some aren't gaining fame the way you are (killing critters).

Fame gain is the same no matter what your mind is at, but yes, level does matter. Higher level give more.

How long have you had the character? I've heard of situations where a character that wasn't played since the fame readjustments (fame was reduced by a factor of 10 across the board) and is suddenly reactivated can come back with 0 fame, regardless of level. If you've just started playing this character after a long absence, it might be worth looking into.

It should also be noted that whether someone does bounties may also affect their fame. At least from what I've seen, a person who does a lot of bounties may have lower fame for their level, though I may be wrong in that.

When was the fame readjustment? I hadn't played in almost 3 years and my character came back with fame still.

Definitely more than 3 years back. I want to say that missing both the fame readjustment and the conversion to GS4 may set someone to 0 fame, but I'm not sure. Either way, if your character has such little fame, you can assist to have someone look at it and see if that's what's going on.

Are you sure? I was under the notion that if your mind is full, all further exp from hunting is tossed directly into fame.

This is consistent with what happened to my prime ranger....50th in GS3, missed both the fame change and conversion to GS4, and converted to 43rd level with 0 fame upon returning.

Heh, I noticed something similar where a friends cleric had over 4m fame at 31 and im sitting around 3m with my 36 warrior. It all depends on if you hunt past fried or if you go back and rest right when you fry. Also if you uphunt you are going to generate less fame than if you underhunt as you would be killing more mobs to fry.

Also, I think some characters whose accounts who have been reopened recently after being gone for a long time start their fame at 0 again. I saw a great lord with under 100k fame like a month ago.

I remember one of the things I learned during my "know shit" phase was that being in a group/having people around increased fame gain when you killed something, and leading a group increased it even more. (This was when I was waving cheese around to gen rats). I managed to lead around some 10-15 noobs in rats all under the pretense that being in a group got us all more exp.

Anyone know if any factors like that weigh into the equation? (not that it really matters what with fame meaning nothing).
