View Full Version : Zombie hunting script - need help

This is a pure swinging script. I want it to take me from the landings well to the zombies, but am having trouble figuring out the matchscript to deal with my roundtimes involved in standing and crawling around at the copse of trees at treespirits. The other thing I want the script to do is stance dance. I want it to swing in offensive, then when the RT is up go to stance defensive. Wait for the zombie to attack, and then switch to offense and swing again. Can anyone help me out? Search for "PLACEHOLDER" to find the thre areas I am having difficulty in. Thanks!

Ok, don't take this the wrong way, because I by no means am an accomplished scripter (Im just learning) and the score has it YOU have a working script and I dont... but...
Your script doesnt stance dance. It ambushes a critters head repeatedly untill it dies, and then goes to stance defensive. That's not stance dancing.
Stance dancing is waiting for the enemy to swing, then switching quickly to offense stance and swinging yourself. Your round time ends and you quick pop back into stance defensive and wait for the enemies next strike, at which point you jump back into offensive and attack again. In order to work, obviously, your RT must be < the enemies.
My script, technically, SHOULD do it, though I think now that I forgot to implement a control to switch to defensive as soon as the RT is up. I'll have to go back and make sure.
The problem, at the moment, is getting the script to RUN, to actually move around and hunt, not the mechanics of combat.

I'd recommend not to worry about the movement at all. Make a new script that all it does is kill the mob. Then edit that until you get it to dance the way you want.
Here's the problem with your idea of stance dancing... What if you're fighting one and another one comes in... They tend to have the same timers (which is why you usually see them doing actions around the same time with a long pause) but often they can be completely opposite. So I hope you're not hunting anywhere that tends to swarm at all.

That is one definition of stance dancing, mine is another.
If you want a script that involved you are going to have to use Lich. I seriously doubt that you will ever get something like that to work in Wiz or SF with the current limitations they have on their scripting language.

It watches for incomings, turtles, and leaves the room.
Eventually I see no reason why I couldnt alter the combat to wait a few seconds to see if the two critters swing within x amount of seconds from each other, and seeing a decent margin of RT between rounds of enemy attacks go ahead and take them both on. Such would be, relatively easy to do but of course more complex (I do suspect advanced functions I do not understand would make it infinately simpler though).
As far as creating seperate movement and combat scripts... not a bad idea. Would make the whole thing SO much less convoluted (I'm not a programmer)
Im gonna think about that one. Would make it a lot easier to update the script for new areas, too.

Further, it sounds far more complex than it should actually be in reality. Maybe I'm a fool, but I really think it's doable, and the current script I have hear is not too far off from it. However, it couldn't hurt to rewrite it, if not just for experience sake

I disagree. It's fairly straightforward.
its easy to detect when another mob runs in the room with a critter already in it, and its easy to detect when there are 2+ in a room instead of 1. That said, your combat script will then wait for x amount of swings before it reacts. after one attack goes, it cycles through a pause .5 second, match attack script again searching for a new zombie attack. If it does not see it, it increases a variable. If said variable grows larger than Y amount, execute move script.
If, however, the script detects two zombies swinging within, say, 3 seconds (y) of each other, it determines this as a safe fight (which it is, even with my 7 second rt), the script goes right ahead and stance dances as normal, with the exception of resuming the attack script again once more after executing the skinning script.
(btw, I dunno, personally I dont see how fighting in full offensive, winning, then going to stance defensive is stance dancing. Sounds like not being a raging lunatic to me :yes: )

You're going into a room in Def, waiting for the zombie to bite/swing, then swinging for 7rt in Off, You're going to be attacked again while you're still in Off Unless zombies got slowed down, they swung alot faster than 7 seconds.
So.. stance dancing, even in your version of it, is pointless. You're not fast enough to go back to defensive before the next attack, and that's not counting two, or three attacking zombies. In that case, you'd be sitting there in Def. until one left, or you canceled the script and actually played.

Zombies are slow as dirt, they have AROUND a 10 second RT, maybe 11. I have been fighting zombies off and on since my character was in his low-mid (probably mid) teens using a claidhmore. I started doing this when I played Kyrandos as a warrior about 10 years ago - when it was completely unheard of for someone that level to even look at zombies much less kill a few of them. Needless to say I used to die - a LOT. :tumble:
Anyways, trust me, it's completely doable - it's so doable in fact, that I've been doing it for the last 5 levels. I fight in full offensive, and no, I don't die. Ever. (anymore)

I think it was a claidhmore anyway, was a long time ago. May have been an axe or something else 2 handed. Would have been blessable, not sancted though, as I was a warrior. I really don't see how it matters though.
I do seem to recall at some point zombies were made harder to kill. I *BELIEVE* either they had HP added or possibly they used to recieve even worse crits than they already do (hard to believe, I know)

Since this isn't the case, IT does not work.

The IT that I was refering to is your script, and the lack of need and praticality of said script. I made no mention of whether or not you died or whether or not your character was viable at whatever train to hunt zombies.

Or make a copy of it and put a "look" at the beginning of the copy, if doing it would screw up the rest of the script (which I frankly didn't bother looking at). I haven't actually used or written a Wizard script in years, but my memory is that even though the room title is on a separate line, it's unreliable to assume the script will properly match the lines directly after that (since they arrived in the same "chunk").

I tried that script in plat and was unable to get it to work it got lost before it got out of dragonclaws.
