You raise the crumpled scroll and gesture to invoke the Elemental Wave spell.
Invoke attempt went very wrong and a flame flares from the crumpled scroll striking you!
... 10 points of damage!
A curling tongue of blue flame sears the skin on your stomach.
You are stunned for 2 rounds!
Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.

Second attempt, not noticing the -163 modifer.

And for reference.

>invoke 613
1d100: 26 + Modifiers: 128 == 154

You raise the dark scroll and gesture to invoke the Self Control spell.
Sparks begin to fly between the dark scroll and your fingers. With a sudden burst of enthusiasm, the sparks jump into your hand and a charged feeling surrounds you.

Elemental is not a circle you can learn.

I don't know what all goes into the mods, but if you can't learn from a spell circle and it's completely opposite of what you can normally cast from, your mods suck...

I have 24 ranks in MIU and I found an orb that I have -180 mod...

Well that's weird. How come I don't have problems with ranger-base and cleric-base spells as a paladin?

Were you encumbered?

Make sure your encumbrance is at the lowest point possible as well. With 202 ranks I can still fail an invoke if I am encumbered. Might be better off going with an imbedded item for 410.

Nope, not incumbered. I was wearing MBP, but I've been invoking ranger/cleric spells with zero problems outside of random failures.

I think you need 20 ranks not to fail as much. From my understanding you need double the ranks for the spell number to not fail as much, or perhaps that is just for the duration.?. As for cleric and ranger you can cast those better because they are from spiritual based professions and that might give you a bonus as not to fail. **Character can learn spells from the same sphere of the spell to be activated, but cannot directly train from the same circle** That gives you a +20.

410 is a different sphere than ranger/cleric spells. Since you're a paladin and your sphere of influence is spirit based spells, there is a large penalty to invoke elemental sphere spells (and mental sphere when it comes out)

I never considered that the ranger circle would be considered spiritual, but I suppose you're right. I guess that solves my problem. Thanks.

Ok. Problem not solved.
>rummage my neckpouch spell 507
You rummage through your turnip-clasped neckpouch and remove a sigil covered leathery parchment with Elemental Deflection scrawled upon it.

You raise the leathery parchment and gesture to invoke the Elemental Deflection spell.
Sparks begin to fly between the leathery parchment and your fingers. With a sudden burst of enthusiasm, the sparks jump into your hand and a charged feeling surrounds you.

You gesture.
You are surrounded by a shimmering field of energy.
Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.

Multicolored rays shoot out of your body and flow into a shimmering sphere around you.

Again, paladin invoking wizard spells. This time with no negative modifiers

The only thing I have noticed is that the one that you had negative mods on was an attack spell. I wonder if that has something to do with it. I cannot find any information from that, and none of my characters cast attack spells from scrolls...so I have never run into this.

It probably has something to do with it being an attack spell. Still weird though.

Assist about it, it looks like a big ol' bug.
