View Full Version : Weird or not Weird

I was just talking with some people and I realized I am very strange... why? Well I realized that all throughout school I always got very excited for our book fair. I mean, I'm a senior in high school and I still was excited for the book fair to come... and looking back at the ones we had in grade school, I wish I could go back there. I have feelings of nostalgia for books and my book fairs.. so.. since no one else will agree with me that I am strange, you guys tell me. Weird or not?

You go ga-ga over things you love. It's normal. Now if you jerk off to the thought of book fairs, I'd say your weird.

I love books! And I think I remember loving school book fairs. If I can jog the old brain cells to go back that far.

My neighbor moved today..I saw a bag of books she had by stuff to be tossed out. NO clue what genre the books were, I naturally rescued them. Now they are all mine, and happy in the book cupboard with all my other books.

So I said normal weird. In a very good way.

Aw Kurili... I can't throw a book out either. In my rather tiny room I have five bookshelves and I don't care. I don't rent books from a library, I buy them and keep them forever! Nor do I mark their pages... any book in my possession is well taken care of. (one s or two in possession?)

Oh wow, I remember book fairs.. I used to love them back in like middle school. BTW, I voted Leloo as Nutty Bin Material! ;)

lol Love you too Snapp! At least I'm not the only one that was in love with them.. I feel like the odd person in our grade. It's not my fault I absolutely love books. They're the easiest things to get lost into and each one you can look back on with fond memories...

...shutting up now.

We didn't have book fairs after like, seventh grade. You're lucky!

we had one this year and it even had computer games for sale! Of course I didn't have any money that day and I didn't feel like being made fun of by my friend so I didn't buy anything...

You shouldn't feel odd because some of your friends can not appreciate good literary works!

However I do question your judgement when asking this crowd whether or not your weird...

Books just totally rock.

I've gone and bought books for friends just to push them to read more.

When I moved the last time I gave away a whole lot of excess paperbacks to neighborhood kids. I sure hope they read them. I am one of those who tends to buy several copies of my favorite books as they get so beat up from use so I always have extras :)

hehehe I remember the Library in one rural New York State town being rather incensed that I decided to...umm..extend my withdrawl of twenty books. I liked them. Once they caught me and took their books and a good chunk of my money back, I went and bought twelve of the twenty. Would have been cheaper to buy them to begin with. I guess I didnt think they'd miss them.

And my kids...Book Fairs got me more excited than them I think.

I love books too, Leloo, but I abuse the hell out of mine.

I've been known to read in the shower if I don't feel like putting a book down, I've always thought it'd be nice to get water-proof laminated books.

Besides, no one who plays GS is "normal." It's just a sliding scale of semi-odd all the way to fucking wackjob. And the occasional shithead.

I loved, yet hated book fairs. We always got a "wish list" we could fill out of the books we wanted. Well, I always filled every line of my wish list, but my parents never got me a darn thing :(

Books are the best thing in the world. Even better than contraception that doesn't involve stretching whale blubber over the old boy.

Didn't Michael Jackson try that?

Book fairs dried up by the time I got into middle school :(

That and the annual book sales things for school.. EVERYONE bought the Geness Book of World Records, and a few others every time.. I used to look at the books they were making available and slobber profusely :D

I still think one of my favorites was a complete guide to the 6 Million Dollar Man, where in this one passage talks about how "He can Poll Vault 30 feet (without a poll!)", and spent the whole drive to Little League practice trying to make sense out of it to my mother..

She just kept declaring.. "How can he pole vault without a pole?" :) and I would tell her "Mom.. it just sounds neat.. they mean he JUMPS."
"Then why don't they just say THAT instead?"

I loved book fairs and libraries. I went to fourteen different schools and I was very shy. However, they all had libraries and it was like having an automatic friend at each new school.

This thread made me ask my daughter about books I used to buy her. Anyone remember the Goosebumps series? She loved those when she was younger. I loved getting her book fair list because I would stick a few Newberry award books on it for her.

Vesi

P. S. I keep all my books too.

Edited to add: You're not weird if you love book fairs!

I STILL own like 20 goosebumps. I am a book collector, lol. Almost every book I've read since I was eight I still own. When I put away my laundry I'll take a picture of my bookshelves... yes I am that attached.

I love book fairs and reading. I have tons of books, some on shelves, some in boxes since I ran out of room. It is one reason I love GS, it is like writing your own story every time you play :)

Really good books are sometimes hard to find. Getting to the end of one is always sad or dissapointing no matter how it ends!

12-01-2003, 06:52 PM
Books are the shit. I have maybe 100 with me here at Ft lewis, another 200 back home. My mom has like 10 times that.

But book fairs are lame.

Leeloo, are those a series of Star Trek paperbacks on the shelf in the middle to the left?

A little Eeyore is sitting in front of them, as is the umbrella

1. I am nutty bin material

2. I loved book fairs up until high school.

In high school, I went around asking all the vendors if they had Playboy, Penthouse, you know, the good stuff.

Naturally, I was quickly escorted to the principal's office where I sat and bullshitted with the principal and ate the candy sitting on his desk.
