View Full Version : Stupid Armor Question

Alright, so I have a stupid armor question that I've never bothered to test, even though I've played a warrior for over 13 years now.
I understand that when wearing armor, adding greaves and helmets and whatnot raises the overall AsG of the armor you are wearing, and thus requires more armor training to fend off penalties.
But what about when you are already wearing full plate, and then add say a crush resistant, or spiked helmet. Does that require armor training above and beyond 140 ranks? Or cannot you not raise the AsG above full plate anyway, so no additional training is needed?
I've recently enjoyed the "how is padding affected by accessories" discussion on the officials, etc, but I've never bothered to ponder whether accessories on top of full plate requires additional training.

I don't see why they'd add to an AsG ranking provided full plate is the cream of the crop. Except when you're hiding, now.
Ummm, I think if you're already covered by your torso armor, let's say, on your neck, and decide to wear a spiked aventail, the AsG won't go up -- The only thing different would be a balancing of padding on your armor if it existed as such.

Yeah, thats actually my second question. If I put on a spiked helm on top of my full plate, does that mess with the crit padding on my full plate for my head?

It still reacts + non-reactive you can still headbutt bitches.
That'll prolly get nerfalized in the future. Maybe.

Right, but I *also* still get full crit padding from my armor?

If you have crit padding on your armor, it finds a medium with that of the crit padding of your helm.
If you have incredibly crit weighted full plate, and wear a spiked, 0 padded helm, you end up getting a +15 critical {(30 + 0)/2}.
That means if your full plate has incredible crit (or damage) padding, and you decide to throw in a spiked helmet, you have to be willing to slice your armor's padding down to just heavy for the head (+ neck if it's a spiked visored helm) area.

Okay, fuck that. I'm not giving up any padding on my head.

Adding a helm to plate has no coverage-based benefit and requires no further training.
In general, wearing anything but a vanilla accessory will halve the torsoworn padding. That said, I can't remember if it's flares or spikes but one doesn't cause that to happen. I'll look around for the Coase post and get back to you.

I don't know what I thought I was remembering (maybe that armor can be padded AND spiked?), but here's the news article:
Specially enhanced armor includes: differing types of padding (i.e. combining damage and critical padding on a hit location), armor that is resistant to specific damage types, blessed armor, TD enhancing armor, flaring armor, and spiked armor.
No joy.

Yeah, oh well. Guess I just won't use a spiked helm.

You can spike padded armor, it just can't be reactive spikes. It only works when using CM's or guild skills that use that portion of the body...
