OK we have our first game of the season today.
I'm pretty psyched up for it actually...more than I usually am. Doing my pre-match routine this morning. Need to have some breakfast, but I am really not feeling hungry. Not sure that's a good thing, but there you go.

Anyway, we were beaten in the semi-finals of the cup last year, by the team we are playing today. Ominous, perhaps, however we played like shit in that game last year. Really bad. We have strengthened our squad this year too. Our pre-season friendlies were against three teams in higher leagues than us and we comfortably beat two of them and narrowly lost against the other, having led for most of the game. I have no doubt that we are capable of doing well today, and this season in fact...just depends on how well we set our minds to it.

So yeah, keep your fingers crossed...and with a bit of luck and a lot of work, we should get our season off to a winning start today.

Good luck with your new season, Nien. My fall flag (pig-skin) football season starts next weekend and I'm looking forward to it. In fact, I can't fucking wait. We have a lot to prove this season. After years of coming close enough to make it to the playoffs, but no further, more times than I care to remember we finally took league championship this spring.

We didn't do quite as well in our winter indoor "soccer/football" league, but we're picking up some new talent so hopefully we'll have a fighting chance this coming winter.

Way cool.

Our company softball team starts the playoffs this week for the summer season, we're rolling in 8 and 0. This season we're finally playing like a unit instead of a bunch of individuals.

Sports, no matter what it is, is fun to partake in.

ROFL...good start.

We notched up our first victory 9-0. No really, it was football, not cricket.
The other side were pitiful. They must have had so many players from their first team when we played them last year. Sad part is our girl of the game, who scored 4 goals and played her socks off, looks to have torn a muscle or hamstring or something and had to be carried off.

Good result though. Takes us top of the league after one game...yes I know it's only one game, but still.

Female soccer players, imo, are the hottest of all female athletes, barring maybe tennis players, but that's much less uniform across the board.

This has nothing to do with Nein, though, I suppose. Just a general observation.

Good luck on your game today, Dev.

We have our first home game today, against another pretty much unknown team. They were division two champions last year and have historically had strong teams, so this should be a tough game. We will have a lot of support there as well, our girls teams dont play until next week so they often come and watch. Puts that little bit more pressure on.

I'm getting pre-match nerves already, which is way early that usual. It's a good sign to get nervous before a game though, IMO. Anyway, will update you all later as to how it goes, whether you want to or not.

Thanks.
We needed it as it happens. Compared with the three pre-season games we played and the game last week, we were very "flat", showed little fight, were "out-muscled" a lot, especially in attack and midfield.

Despite that though, we did manage to win 3-1 and consolidate our position at the top of the league. Had a few good performances from some key players which carried us through and the goals were all well taken (although the first was on own-goal, but it was well worked in the build up and the defender was unlucky really as she had little choice. The second goal was an amazing piece of skill and the third was well taken after some good work in the build up.

One or two glimpses of what we are capable of and they say that the sign of a championship winning side is one that can win when they arent playing at their best, well lets hope today was one of those games.

Good to hear you won even if it's a somewhat lackluster performance.

What was your time of possession?

Shots on goal compared to the other team?

Air balls won?

We dont have anyone keeping that kind of stats, but I would say that we had the majority of the play, we just couldnt string two passes together a lot of the time. Balls given away too easy, people not competing for 50/50 balls. Was kind of sad because we can do better, but at the end of the day, we got the three points and that's what matters.

Our first game of the season is officially over and we came out the victors by a score of 20-6. We have a new quarterback who isn't afraid to actually run the ball when the opportunity presents itself. We have 3 new players on offense and both of our new receivers scored touchdowns. We finally have some height on the team and coupled with her speed I'm looking forward to her doing some nice handiwork out on the field. I'm loving it. I don't know why I haven't thought of it before, but due to the fact that I got my first interception of the season today, I'm going to start keeping some defensive stats so I can keep track of areas where improvement is needed.

Overall, the weather was perfect, we kicked ass and took names later. Nice to know your team did the same; sounds like you had a pretty amazing game yourself. The games where you know the team isn't playing its best, yet you still come out on top, those are the ones where practice pays off the most. Awesome job on the win.
