So... Is the Gemstone team stumped? out of ideas? or just big fans?

Vartelin says, "You are here to learn the subtle and exact art that is Alchemy."
Vartelin says, "As there is little wand-waving or muttering of incantations, you may hardly believe this is magic. Rare is the individual who can truly appreciate the beauty of a simmering cauldron or its shimmering fumes."
Vartelin says, "Rarer still is it who can understand the intricate interplay of reagents, the delicate power of that which comes of Alchemy."

That's actually what I said to him when I saw it. I can't believe that - it really pissed me off. And what's the first thing I see when I start alchemy... Myself muttering incantations! So they took it out of the book just out of a lack of ideas I think.

I know Naos is a huge huge huge Harry Potter fan.

I half think he put it in as a joke and then forgot about it.

At least, that's what I hope.

I thought that too when I started alchemy this morning.

I'm sorry my little ode to Ms. Rowling and her excellent book(s) left you feeling jarred and with the idea that it was plagiaristic in nature.

It's been changed to something I hope you find more appropriate.

Naos

I feel bad, but...it was nearly word-for. It's no different than reciting "Twas the Night Before Christmas" and changing all the words.

Anybody that goes through it now can you post the log of it?

And cleaning crucibles and things needs to be WAY WAY WAY more straight forward - took me 45 minutes and four other people to figure the shit out.

"Clean Crucible" > "Feeling a tad bit obsessive, are we?" - NO I"M TRYING TO CLEAN THE SHIT YOU TOLD ME TO

"Clean Crucible ON WORKBENCH" > "oh that works, here have a rep"

- I understand the premice now - the 'workbench' has the three items on it... then the 'workbench' has the dirty things on it (look ON the workbench to see the dirty stuff - look AT the workbench to see the clean stuff) that makes a whole hell of a lot of sense.

Shoot, when I first started, took me 20 minutes to figure out where the Alembics were - I'm looking ON the workbenches and they're empty. Can't put that in the room description or something? When you are working on lock mastery, you don't look AT the table when you're doing contest reps, you look ON it for the boxes and lockpicks...

[Room - Annex, Maelstrom workshop]
In sharp contrast to the entry chamber, this cubicle is both uniform in dimension and serene in atmosphere. Sand-colored walls stretch upward to a glass-paned vaulted ceiling that funnels moonlight directly onto the wrought iron workbench below. The workbench contains a crucible, a lens assembly, and a alembic used in various alchemical processes. Aside from a few assorted pieces of alchemical equipment, the room's only distinguishing feature is a vividly painted mural depicting a grisly scene in larger-than-life proportions. You also notice a table.
Obvious exits: south

> Look AT table
The table is caked with dust and grit from the dirty equipment placed there.

> Look ON table
On the table you see, a dirty crucible, a dirty ruby lens, and a dirty lens assembly.

> Clean Crucible
That Crucible is sparkling clean, try the one on the 'dirty equipment table'.

See what I did there... you have a workbench with the clean stuff, and a table where all the dirty stuff goes for cleaning.

Seriously, I don't mean to be a dick. But it's pretty bad when its this user unfriendly. The only thing I ever had an issue with in the rogue guild was the training mannequins - I kept trying to sweep the mannequins and never thought 'go mannequin'. (insidently, that one should be "you notice an alcove leading toward some sweep mannequins" - and "you notice a niche leading toward some subdue mannequins")

Whoever did lock mastery was decent... I only got confused on creating locks 'pretty good' for the training administrator. Spend 30 minutes making -5 locks. Didn't realized I'd have to spend 12k (3k after rebate) just to do a few reps for a guild skill.
I guess the 'lm sense' master reps were a bit confusing at first too, but I suppose everybody over-thinks that one.

Teslam calls for an apprentice who arrives shortly with a black training cauldron and quickly leaves.
Teslam considers you quietly for a moment, his arms folded within the sleeves of his robe.
Teslam says, "You are here to learn Alchemy."
Teslam says, "Beleive it or not, the art of mixing rare and exotic reagents to create bubbling potions and other curious crafts is as much magic as any chanting of incantations or gesturing you might do. Rare is the individual who can truly appreciate this."
Teslam says, "Rarer still is he who can understand the intricate interplay of reagents, the delicate power of that which comes of Alchemy."
"This," Teslam gestures toward the training cauldron, "is a cauldron. I gather you've seen one before. Though, not one such as this, I am sure."

That's the new one if you care - I did it on my Empath to see. It's certainly not as artistic as before... guess it's just that Naos isn't as creative with dialog as the people he plagiarizes from are.
