View Full Version : Zit remedies?

So, I'm 26. I'm still getting zits. And not the little tiny, easy to cover up with makeup, zits. No...I'm talking the ones that look like your face is trying to grow a new appendage. Not many, I'll get one like a big fucking target, and then it will go away...and another one will appear in its stead.

I keep my face clean, and don't eat greasy foods. I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good spot treatment that WORKS. So if it WORKS, price really isn't an issue. I want them gone. But I don't want to continuously invest in micro-derm chemical peels or whatever the hell they're called.

Just a nice, over-the-counter recommendation that will blast the little fuckers. Home remedies I'm more than willing to try too!

I haven't tried it myself yet, generally out of laziness when I do get a break out, but I've heard a dab of tooth paste works. I think I got this out of a bridal preparation book, as a last minute tip for brides before the morning-of.

What are you doing for a skin care routine? And what KIND of breakouts are you getting?

Queen Helene Mint Mask is excellent for spot treating cystic acne and whiteheads. It's very cheap for a whole tube. Also, cutting open a potato and rubbing it on your face is decently effective for smaller breakouts and papules.

You could also try neosporin. Dab it on the area and leave it there like...while you sleep? And then wash your face in the morning.

Oh yeah, Neosporin! I used to use that, I think especially for whiteheads. But it makes you feel greasy and it can stain a little if you have pale sheets.

Yes, it's definitely not a "mood setter". ;) But it helps!

Which shampoo and conditioner do you use? Facial soap etc?

I tried a million remedies for acne, and I finally broke down and asked my dermatologist about Accutane. At 30, it was crazy to still be having break outs, and usually right before an important event.
You take a pill, twice a day for 6 months along with once a month blood tests.
If you have medical insurance, it is covered. (just not co-pays)
The downside to this is, you have to be 100% sure not to get pregnant, as it causes birth defects.
2 years after finishing my treatment, I haven't had a major break out once. Not gonna lie, I get the occasional pimple, but they are small and go away quickly.
I realize my post sounds like a damn advertisement, and im sorry for that, just trying to stress how awesome Accutane is/was. :)

If you are on the pill ask your doctor about ortho-tricycline or any similar. If you're not on it get on it. I tried everything in the book and nothing worked. I've been zit free ever since I started on ortho-t and stayed that way for years now. I used to get those big whoppers too. No OTC remedies or herbal remedies ever worked and believe me I tried everything.

Damnit Gan! I knew I should have refreshed... What're you like that guy that tells the bank their ATM is spewing money instead of cashing in?

ROFL

I would have posted it sooner but I had to find the right key word to minimize the search results so I could find it.
