Since there's two threads about this, I'm going to post 2 answers. My other answer is in the other thread, and it's exactly like this one.


Well shit to be fair, what the hell kind of question is that to begin with? What other answer could there possibly be to a question like "1/5 of Americans can't find the U.S. on a world map. Why is this?" than "BECAUSE THEY'RE FUCKING STUPID!!!!!"?

Seriously, how can you possibly dress up a politically correct answer to a question like that, especially when you have to pull it straight out of your ass on the spot? The only answer is BECAUSE THEY'RE FUCKING STUPID!!! and there's no possible way to sugar coat it. Someone please prove me wrong, I'm truly curious on how to answer a question like that in a politically correct sense.

I think she just got fucked. Unfortunately it wasn't by me.

What's so sad about the whole thing is that this is supposed to be a "scholarship" competition and I'm willing to bet there are probably fewer than 10 contestants that could spell scholarship.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but....I actually feel sorry for the girl.

To begin with it WAS a stupid question. She's probably nervous as fuck, but really, she should have just gathered her thoughts for a second (the few that she has) and paced herself on the answer.

MY ANSWER: Because one-fifth of America's population are likely under the age of 5 and I'd assume very few kindergardners are able to locate the country they reside in on a map.

Then again, I wouldn't make it into a beauty pageant for MANY, MANY reasons.

This chick is a moron. They did not ask her to do calculus or quite statistics. Anyone who spends ANY time thinking about the world around them would have hit this one out of the park, and she whiffed. It doesn't take much to say that we should work to emphisise curriculum that helps future generations better understand our place in the world. Throw in something about the world growing more dangerous and how a better understanding would leave us safer in the long run, and you're good.

They don't expect these girls to be super geniuses, so the questions are always pretty easy. They just want to test their poise and see if they posess a minimal capacity for critical thought. And if you think about it, it makes sense. The winner will be traveling the world, doing interviews, and answering questions just like this. Wouldn't you want to hear her answer one before you send her off?

You're right. It is an appropriate question. These girls represent their state and the winner supposedly represents the country. Why shouldn't they be asked a geographic question? The fact that 1/5 of the country does not know where the U.S is on the map is laughable. The country is huge and the people proud, yet 1/5 doesn't know where it is? ( Probably the same people who thinks the U.S is the centre of the world )

These girls are well prepared and know that the Q&A part is what will give them the title. I think she thought of the right answer. She tried to say because of ignorance and lack of proper education. Her mistake was thinking the question was too easy and didn't just flat out give a direct answer. She tried to add more to her answer to try and wow the crowd and ended up fumbling instead.

She wasn't anywhere NEAR composed enough to come up with ONE of the many answers she could have. And what came out of her mouth was a tragic jumble of public speaking cliches mixed with political and geographical phrases her brain regurgitated. NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

That was the girl who won. She said she didn't think any of them were role models. Which I thought was great. But then followed it up with, "But I think if I had to choose, Paris Hilton because at least she, in the end, knew right from wrong."

HAHA YEAH. Paris Hilton knows the right dicks from the wrong dicks. That's about it. AND THAT'S WHO WON?

Is anyone surprised, really? It's labeled beauty pageant for a reason and it has little to do with actually having a viable thought process. Her answer would have been excellent if she were asked to say 100 random words from the English language, in no particular order. Who did she think she was competing against anyway... President Bush. For shame. :(

There was a time when I would have found that really really funny but for some reason it just made me feel bad for her. How can she be so stupid? And was she trying to squeeze in Iraq in the answer somewhere? WTF?

She is still hot so at least she has that going for her. Poor girl.

And how are they polling how many people know where the US is? 1/5th of the country don't know? 60,000,000 people don't know where the fucking US is?? Holy shit we have big problems.
