I used to play years ago and only recently got back into the game, but I am in Iraq right now and have been stuck reading all of these logs instead of playing. I have always played Rogue's, but decided that I want to make a pure once I return to the states soon. I want my new character to be either a Wizard or Sorcerer. I was if you all would be able to give me some brief reccomendations on which way you think would work better for me.
- I tend to hunt alone
- I would like to be able to hunt without having to get spelled up by others
- Can easily hunt like level characters without dying too often
Any help would be appreciated, and if there are any other bits of information out there I would love to hear it.
Thanks
Matt
Sorcerer.
Brawl/shield build with voln fu.
You can find stat ideas in the sorcerer folder.
Be different, dont be a dark elf sorcerer.

Yea, I would suggest a sorcerer or cleric.

Of your two choices, sorcerers tend to be easier to play. Dark elves get the higher CS by a small margin.
If you join COL, I would suggest a dwarf or giantman, for faster spirit regen when wracking. I would not go for a weak race like halflings, for the SP regen, because they are seriously too weak. You wont be able to gather treasure as well as the sturdier races.
If you go into Voln, well good luck. I have never had a Voln Sorcerer.
I would suggest using a wizard if you want to be in voln. The hasted Voln Fu is wicked.

The best rogue I managed was giantkin and this was mainly due to aimed ambushes being able to flatten the heads of critters that the shorter races normally couldn't.
Blunt and board is the way to go for ambushing crap and fending off an attack in the open. Big DEX is a must have, too (I'd basically set it at 90+ for the grace period.)
Dwarves are pretty fun if you want a muscley sword/board rogue as well.
I've had a voln-fu shield/brawl sorcerer. He was the shiznit.
Open hand for channeling, and a third attack style in addition to the standard sorcerer spells, firespirit (AS-elemental).
He sold for a nice penny too. ;)
Not to mention sorcerers get 740 which means cross realm transportation at your fingertips.
If I didnt already have a mid-level cleric I would have rolled up another sorcerer.

So even with all the sorcerer spells at your disposal, you still use Voln Fu some?

old ones too!
ton of spells compared to most professions, and the durations are freakin wacky. Gotta have a calculator or a friggin spellup sheet to figure out how long everything will last.

wizards make great utility/support characters, and of course you can enchant... but for what you are wanting... definately, sorcerer.

Ranger's also make great stand alone hunters. I've been hunting solo/self-cast with the occasional guards/blurs from the begining. And they aren't lame like pures either.
Of course this was due to the fact no one likes my character, but it worked out fine in the long run.

Thanks for all the help, I'm going to spend some time reading doing some more reading now and learn how to roll up this new character. You all gave me some good advice and I will be seeing you in the lands soon.
Thanks
Matt
