Mithumbras and Faiyth and...? · on 8/22/2007
Though his recent (or not too recent?) actions will prevent my character from interacting with him very much in the future, I'd like to thank Mithumbras' player for the many years of delightful RP that I shared with him.
And, on that note, a special thanks to Faiyth's player - nothing says "good readin'" like a public online journal detailing your IC husband's routine infidelity! You're both a class act.

It would come down because it would be seen as an attack on a player/character(s), whether or not it was justified. I found it hilarious too, and I don't have a clue what was going on. No insult was meant in me bringing the post here. Just found it funny.

That Faiyth chick keeps a pretty graphic IC journal. Names, dates. I haven't read it in awhile but it was funny. Never looked at those guys the same again.
From her diary:
"Of course I don't sleep with everyone, and I can be choosey regarding lovers. I usually start every race of elf, human or giant off as potential lovers.. unless they are hideous or something. Then if they beg, bounce on me, start acting like children, get clingy, insult me badly or do something stupid or that I consider unmanly I start removing points.. every man starts with 5 points.. if he still has 3 or more points after the night is over I will consider him for a lover. If I sleep with him and he amazes me then the point system is gone because good lovers are hard to find. If he is a terrible lover the point system goes and I forget him as any future lover and he becomes more of a friend. You may think I sit around and have sex all the time, but really I sleep with 1 or 2 guys a week. I lie and embellish this for some men, usually if they like the idea of me sleeping with lotsa men. The truth is I only sleep with 1 or 2 men a week.. if I'm having a good week I may do more. The most I've ever had in a week is 4 different men. Which really isn't all that many when you consider that some men think I'm sleeping with 3 or 4 different men every night.. that's just not going to happen. I do after all get tired. I do alot of other things too, my life isn't just about lovers. I buy dresses, I create things, I hunt.. I work secretly on my sorcerer guilds membership. I've been working on my adventure's guild membership as well lately."

Look, she can RP her character any way she wants, but she has to accept that bad things may arise because of those choices.
Same goes for Mith's player. This is why this scenario has become an issue with me...
Basically, Mith's player and I are (were) best friends IRL. From day one, I told him that I was not comfortable with his character having outside affairs if he was going to be married to my character. He said he was okay with that. Mind you, this was SIX YEARS AGO.
Well, I got suspicious. After many guilt trips on his part, and many many times of promising to me (OOC, no less) that nothing was going on, I got an anonymous IM one day. And let's just say that names started coming out of the woodwork. Mith's player denied everything until the night I discovered Faiyth's journal.
So, am I a little bitter? Hell yes. Was it the most mature way I could've handled it? Probably not, but it sure helps me feel a bit better. I think Faiyth's journal is disgusting, personally, and I'm pretty shocked that someone would post something like that where anyone could see it. So, I don't really care about calling her out on it. I haven't called out any of the other ladies I know about, nor will I.
So now I'm facing the end of a long-term RL friendship, on top of an IC one. Some people will call me nuts for getting emotionally involved, but that's just the way it is. I'm trying my damnedest not to get sucked in further, and I hope everyone will be just a little understanding about all of this.
As for Epi, she never slept with anyone else while she was married to Quinstol. So, really, to be making accusations of that nature is just ridiculous.

And this is why I switched over to WoW. The concept of caring that much over an in game character is a bit too serious for my tastes. Not to mention, as long as I stay away from Goldshire, I can stay away from that mess. 5 night a week cybering with someone who may damn well be a guy is just ?.. yuck. To each their own I guess, and if enough people enjoy that kind of interpersonal character involvement, and basically having a hardcore story porn subculture, then so be it.
That diary is kinda comical though.

I?m not saying there is anything wrong with it, simply that I find it to be a repellant. If I wanted to go have cybersex, I could go to a number of porn chats and go nuts. Frankly, I prefer the real thing, and if she?s not up to it, or away on business, my left hand works a whole lot better than someone who is probably a guy somewhere I don?t know that can?t spell. For that trip last year where my left hand was sprained, the right hand does the trick. I just fail to see how any of that part of life has to be a part of a game, and part of the majority of the subculture to it. Maybe its just me, but ?my text was married to your text, and I?ve got the text ring to prove it? doesn?t make any sense to me. It?d be akin to developing personal feelings for a phone sex operator.

Eh, because I don't believe in planning anything in a roleplaying game. Just go with whatever happens. Then again I personally would find it weird to roleplay a marriage with my best friend, then get all butt hurt because he was unfaithful with some nameless, faceless stranger. It's just a game, afterall.

Well, fair enough. Go ahead and fire away, I just thought I'd offer some kind of explanation.
Frankly, I just needed to vent. Though he initiated it, it was probably (absolutely) dumb of me to bring these matters OOC. My initial reasoning was to let off a little steam and hopefully give some people a chuckle in the process - I realize a lot of people don't understand where I'm coming from, but I think there are just as many who do.
I try to keep most of my IG friendships anonymous to avoid this sort of thing, and now I am seeing the true value in that. Thank you to those who have pointed it out.

I can understand people who get emotionally involved in their characters and the relationships formed during the months and years rp'ing in gemstone.
I am one of them. I look at it as if it were akin to a favorite character in a book.. or a character in a movie. Even over a short time reading or watching, you are invested in them and you dont want to see bad things happen to them.
Now, multiply that by 1000 where the story or the movie you were watching has been going on for years, and the responsibility of what happens to that character is at least partially due to your decisions.
The sad thing is that for every 1 person that is invested and cares about their character, there are 10 that just play for power trips.. because they are impotent or unhappy with their lives, and feel the need to screw with other peoples to prove they can.
My character Martagain is a flirt because he has no reason not to be. He would never betray someone he has given his heart to.. He also holds his honor and his family name and memory above all else. He has a code he will follow even if it means pissing into the wind and getting beat down by someone 80 lvls over him If it means standing up for his values or those he calls friend, he would glady die. This is how i choose to play my character and invest my time.
To each their own i guess.

Okay, here's my "foot in mouth" moment.
Just because I felt hurt on an OOC level did not give me the right to air my dirty laundry here - the issue is between Mith's player and I, and any OOC information should have remained in the same place. I apologize to anyone I offended.
That being said, there are a lot of you here who could learn a thing or two about human compassion. I realize we're online and it's "just a game", but there are real people behind the characters. I don't understand how you can be in a 6 year "relationship" and not feel an ounce of sadness or anger when you realize you and your character have been lied to the entire time.

Don't they teach people in theater the difference between a subject pronoun and an object pronoun?
<<and not feel an ounce of sadness or anger when you realize you and your character have been lied to the entire time.>>
I think this is a major part of the problem: you distinguish between you and your character as if they are indepedent entities.

Haha, new post on her journal, btw. All about Mith, of course.
Which is odd, considering that I don't think he's been around at all tonight...
Why does it matter one way or another? I was lied to. My character was lied to. We were lied to.
That's just it, you were not lied to, your character was. The fact that you've become emotionally hurt by this shows that you lack the emotional maturity to separate reality from fantasy. If someone betrays my character I am not hurt emotionally because I am not him. This is really why I avoid all kind of in-game romance. Far too many people play avatars of themselves and not characters and it creeps me out. And trust me I have no axe to grind with you as I haven't been paying a lot of attention so I don't even know who this is or what 'character' you play.
Jolena
08-23-2007, 02:55 AM
Well, in her defense (sort of?) she did say that the player of Mith also told her OOC as friend to friend that he wouldn't betray her IC with their marriage. So technically, if that's true, she the player was lied to AND her character was lied to. Once by the player in OOC conversation, and once by the character in game.
As to the journal thing tonight, she refers to the man in her journal as 'Myth' not Mith, so perhaps its not the same one? And if it is, I would be wary of believing that even happened, since A) you say he wasn't around tonight, and B) she probably knows about the drama surrounding this now that the post was made here and on the officials (even if it was pulled, plenty of folks saw it and commented before it was removed so its feasible she was told). That might be a reason for her to comment as she did in her journal, thinking perhaps you might see it and just add more fuel to the fire?
Just some thoughts, I really don't know Faiyth well enough to say one way or the other if she'd even do something like make up a story in her journal just to fuel the fire or not.
practicaldreamyr
08-23-2007, 02:55 AM
I wasn't directing that comment to you, and as for "separation", Mith's player didn't give me that luxury. I told him, quite reasonably, that I was not comfortable with that kind of IG behavior, and that he needed to let me know if he was taking his character in that direction so I could respond accordingly. It's just a matter of courtesy, player to player.
Secondly, I wouldn't have called Faiyth's player out if she hadn't posted all of this on a publicly-viewed journal.

08-23-2007, 02:57 AM
And yes, Jolena's got it right. Thank you, Jolena.

Not to defend Faiyth in any way, it?s not like he/she was really all that out of the ordinary. Maybe an excessive flair for the dramatic, or a bit psychotic, but to think that a large portion of the population aren?t basically camping in their houses or in Inn rooms doing that all the time is a bit na?ve. Just reading a little, I?d say getting a group of of 5 or 6 people walking around her wearing cowboy hats and saying reckon all the time would give her the clear indicator that people have figured it out.
But in the end, from a player of Faiyth perspective, if he/she enjoys that kind of whatever, then who really cares? I think it?s all the people who get butt hurt over text are the ones who sensationalize it, and then start all the OMG OMG look @ tecxt Kirby buttsecks!.
There is no moral high ground in the world of text and pixels. And in the end, not only does nobody really give a shit, but they?ll make fun of you for being stupid enough to care.

Exactly how long have you been reading the PC?
Maybe no one cares in the small circles you run with, but the world at large will regularly laugh at so much emotional and time investment into text and pixels ... if there's sex involved, well it turns into a wildfire and people come from all over with sticks and marshmallows.
I'm sorry, but the biggest turn off to any on-line game, and source of greatest amusement, are the cyber fuck circles that form. (waits for someone's e-peen to arrive 20 minutes before they actually post to inform me I'm using the word "fuck" way too often and it's not the sign of an educated person).
RP games are great, but all too often shit like this gets thrown out in a public venue and people can't help but laugh ... and at the same time wonder how someone can invest so much energy into a game that they actually have to keep a web journal of their character. Let's not get into all of the "families" out there. Outside of the rp hookers and people acting out their sexual inhibitions in a game where you advance by slaughtering game controlled beings, there's nothing that makes the gag reflex kick in when a role playing mattress back has about ten to twenty other players that call her mom and a string of ex in game husbands.
Make that 3 things, cyber, kids, and marriage ... in a game. Why play a game?

Precisely why I avoid Westfall. Luckily, most raiding guilds do not have to worry about that subculture, because the rules don't support it. But if I so choose, I can not only avoid it in WoW, but not have to worry about it being an issue in anything in the people surrounding me. In gemstone, it is damn near impossible.
I?d bet if you took a survey of a random number of players, asked em straight up if they play GS to cyber, and at least 1 in 4 votes wasn?t yes, you?d know some people were bullshitting you.

People play GS for all kinds of reasons. Some play just to powerhunt, some play to roleplay, some play to get their rocks off. As long as it's not done in the open, does it really matter?
The only time I think it's amusing is when people let what happens in a game affect their real life and relationships.
There are better MUDs out there for cybering. In GS it just seems to be easier to develop relationships in the game because of the other activities you can indulge in. I actually have more issues with people playing someone with a kobold lineage or getting raped/pregnant/having abortion than someone who just cybers.

This whole thing is really quite funny. I find it even more funny that she put up a password on journal entries. That obviously won't work, especially if you are giving it to people to read about your character's sorted affairs.
You know, in game now they have books with pages. If your character is going to record something, Jesus Fucking Christ, do it there.
So then, you won't have angry, hurt women display on a public forum the key to getting in and reading what you've written.
PS: Faiyth's player is pretty.
Jolena
08-23-2007, 12:33 PM
Honestly, I don't think her keeping an online journal is a horrible thing. It -is- a game. And though, unfortunately, the OP got involved emotionally as a player and it hurt her feelings (which I am sad to see happen, and I'm sure Faiyth's player never intended), perhaps if more people realized that this is just a game and not real life, they wouldn't be hurt over what their text husband did with another text character in the text world of Elanthia. I don't see why anyone else who plays should have to worry over keeping an online journal and instead resort to keeping the journal in a text book so that noone can see it. Especially when the owner of the online journal clearly separates the game from real life.
ViridianAsp
08-23-2007, 12:39 PM
True, my thing is...if you are going to write entries like that, private or not. It's probably going to blow up in your face.
Because honestly, you have to expect someone is going to show it to the world. I realize it's IC but still, I'd hate to be caught up in something like that. Some angry woman, who seeks revenge by posting the password to my character's journal.
Faiyth's player actually acted better than I probably would have if I had someone do something like that to me.
It's like, save yourself some drama...use and in-game journal.

This whole thing is really quite funny. I find it even more funny that she put up a password on journal entries. That obviously won't work, especially if you are giving it to people to read about your character's sorted affairs.
I was under the impression the password was there to keep people from idly finding it... as in you have to know you want to look at it (or possibly just so she can share it w/ friends). Depending on if it's directly linked to (which now it is on this site) it is also a way to keep google from indexing the page and preventing just searching and stumbling upon it (robots.txt would be better, but doubt she knows about that).
You know, in game now they have books with pages. If your character is going to record something, Jesus Fucking Christ, do it there.
I'm pretty sure these are expensive... and it's clear she wanted to share it with some people and in reality doesn't seem to care if that somebody is everybody, but it looked like she wanted to make it a "you have to want to find this" sort of thing.
It seems pretty reasonable for me to think she wasn't that vested in this and doesn't think it warrants the kind of butthurt reaction the OP had.
Jolena
08-23-2007, 01:14 PM
It doesn't sound like she really cares if people get bent out of shape based on the journal so why would she make it private?
That's pretty much my impression. Also, based on her reaction (Faiyth's reaction that is) here, I would imagine that she isn't too concerned about something 'blowing up in her face' because she has nothing to hide. I think that the password was simply put there to ensure that it wasn't idly found, as others have stated. In fact, she mentions on her website that the password is there to ensure that those reading the journal took the time to at least know something about the character before diving into her journal, hence why the password questions are such that they need answers about the character's possessions such as her favorite pet or whatnot.

Actually no... if you started playing on your 13th birthday and tomorrow is your 27th birthday, you would STILL not have been playing for 14 years, only 13 years. If you said almost 14, then well okay... but you didn't, and as with any of these situations people tend to exaggerate a little... they leave off the almost... then them playing since the age of 14 becomes playing since 13 etc etc.

At first, I thought I was denied journal reading, but I figured out the password. This is addictive reading.
You... figured out the password?

I know, I just couldn't believe an acclaim to something so horrificly simple. Again.
Next time post it white on a white background for Dave to find.

Yes, as in I thought about it for a second then remembered what the item in question was. Not a strange concept to grasp.
Faiyth and my character knew each other way back when, she's not a total unknown to me.

....okay. Besides just being an ass, your post had no point and after some more consideration, it's just not worth getting into something over.
Glad I was a source of fun for everyone for a while, it was actually pretty funny to read all these posts about Faiyth's journal... by the way I DID have a password on it.. and a disclaimer so that you got in means you were looking for it and cared enough to figure out the password. Either way, this was fun!
~ Amber (Faiyth's Muse)
why does everyone say that line, "It was funny" to me thats a sign that they were crying on the other end.
Since judging by the 1st page ilvane is one of eposfuosifosifosi friebds what are the odds that ilvane helped convince her to post thinking she'd get more support

Not that I give a shit that you are.
Edit: (This time, Bob, you're right. This is in response to your previous post. I couldn't help it.)

Actually, I can't remember the last time I spoke to Ilvane IG...and I don't recall ever knowing her OOG.
And I haven't played GS a solid 14 years, it's an on and off thing. But hey, continue insulting me if it gives you a thrill.

Welcome to the PC. Insulting people for the smallest (real or imaginary) thing is what this place does best.

Yeah, considering I haven't talked to her in years, since back when she was married to Quinstol..you guys are stretching a bit.

But hey, if exagerating playing a really bad game makes you think you are something special... have at it.

Can someone sum up for me what the fuck is going on in this thread?1) OP had an IC husband who was also an OOC friend.
2) Faiyth (the character) committed YE ADULTERY with said IC husband.
3) OP asks OOC friend about this sort of situation and is assured (aka lied to) that everything is on the up and up.
4) OP finds Faiyth's IC journal, confirming that she was lied to.
5) OP gives IC hubby and Faiyth a Golden Kobold (player-based roleplaying award) on the officials.
6) Evarin crossposts it here.
7) The PC ensues.

Maybe its just me, but “my text was married to your text, and I’ve got the text ring to prove it” doesn’t make any sense to me. It’d be akin to developing personal feelings for a phone sex operator.
Can't be a big surprise that some folks get into this game a bit.
Why, some folks are so intense about this game they even get into forums and post about it instead of talking about anything real. Go figure.
