I am interested in finding out when your OHE ambusher switched over to a lighter weapon than a falchion or handaxe.

I've read about capped rogues (and rangers?) swinging daggers from the shadows, and would like to know at what point it becomes worthwhile to swing something faster than a falchion.

My half elf will have 100 ambushing ranks sometime soon after 50th, and swings aimed shots at 6 with a falchion/handaxe, 5 with a short sword, and 4 with a dagger.

Will he be hunting things any time soon that justify swinging a little faster and softer? It seems like the answer is dependent on the critter's ASG to some extent. What factors most heavily in the decision to swing lighter?

As you get to end game hunting grounds, the last thing you want to do is be caught flat footed in RT. Thats because of the end game abilities of the foes you'll be fighting are way beyond what you experience in the lower levels.

As an ambushing rogue, the last thing I wanted was to be tagged (especially with low TD) by a caster throwing around spirit based spells like bind, curse, web, etc. while I was waiting on ambush rt to diminish.

With your advanced ranks in ambush you can also use a dagger to great effectiveness to the eye, which usually means a 1 strike kill. Not to mention that daggers are (should be) harder to disarm than a falchion (I cant quote a mechanic source for that).

Gibrefucial was one of the better dagger wielding capped rogues I've seen in OTF; however, I dont know if he's still on that training plan (since I heard him asking about ranged the other day on OOC).

My rogue is 44 I think right now, and swings a heavily crit weighted hand axe with a 6 second RT.

I was out doing some skinning for a lower level character, and since I was using a dagger to skin with(if it in fact helps over trying to skin with a waraxe), and I just kept it equipped and targetted eyes. I don't think I was killing anything over 25ish...but it was pretty much a one shot kill every time aimed to the eye with a 4 second RT.....it was REALLY nice.

I was originally going to look for a short sword of some sort and see how that worked out, but I might switch directly to a dagger, or keep both handy. For things that are too tall to hit the head/eyes right off the bat, it might not be a bad option to keep a heavier weapon handy for legging...then macro switching to a dagger once it's on the ground.

I am going to try that where I'm hunting now as I haven't tested just a plain vultite dagger on same level critters yet...but it looks promising and fun. I'd be curious to find out more about that CMan, the one that lets rogues get up close and personal...might a cool thing to play around with and interesting for RP purposes.
