View Full Version : What are most people using in the later game?

I'm just curious what most people tend to use at the later levels. Not the enchant, but the added dmg. Flares or Weighting(crit/Dmg) I guess being the two most obvious.

Edited to say, I was asking about weapons mainly...but armor is good too. I know with resists now, that add's another level of choice to armor in the game.

For what?

Armor?

Weapons?

Both?

Crit padding on leathers plus best enchant I could find, also lightning reactive.
6x Bow, 5x e-bladed arrows.

Couldn't use anything else to hunt with so that's all i really had when capped. All I needed since he mainly casted and only relied on weapons when out of mana.

Weapon- and shield-wise it's actually not very smart to use more then plain old 4x (flaring if you're a spendthrift) since there's good potentital to lose your weapons and shield in the end game hunting territories (Rift, OTF, and the newer Ruined Temple on Teras).

I'm not sure what other folks do, but I save my nice gear for show...or if I'm with folks who I know will help me retrieve items if lost.

I hunt Stronghold so I can keep using my nice gear, don't care if it's harder.

Anything under chain mail is good with crit padding. Anything double chain and up is awesome with flares.

(All with the correct resistance for their active hunting area.)
(All are at least 7X equipment, unless noted otherwise.)
(All are at least HCP, unless noted otherwise.).)

Armor:

Wizard
Paladin
Sorcerer
Empath
Cleric
Bard
Ranger - dcp
Warrior
Rogue

Shields: (Yes, all my characters use a shield, except for my younger sorcerer and bard.)

Wizard
Paladin
Sorcerer
Empath
Cleric
Ranger
Warrior
Rogue

Weapons:

Wizard - 4X fire flaring dagger
Paladin - 5X sancted falchion
Empath - 5X acid flaring knuckle-blade
Cleric - 6X troll claw
Bard - claidhmore (looking to upgrade to 1X) & 5X exquisite flamberge
Ranger - 7X Falchion with storm griffen lightening flares
Warrior - (2) 7X short swords
Rogue - (2) 7X short swords & (2) 5X daggers

As you can see, I still have room to improve on my chars, and I will eventually get there. :)

Different sets. Don't want reactive flares in bowels do ya.
Plus I chose Enchant over padding anyday, and once I added flares they were my sex set of leathers.

IMO that's crazy, pures can already generate crazy DS, with the added protection from maneuver damage that crit padding gives you have to go with that.

Asha

Nah I found maneuvers, no matter what padding pures use just shred them up at the end game. It's when you're lying in prone offensive with a callwind and a screech keeping you pinned for 11 days when you need every point of DS.

That is because you didn't move up in armor class, Ash. Once you're into Rigid leather, high levels of crit padding will save your ass every time (unless it is a mote)

Capped Sorcerer in OTF
Shield - 10x Tower
Armor - 4x MCP Cuirb
Weapon - (When being used) +28 +1 spirit regen knuckle-blade

Outside spells: 503 507 508 202 303 601 905

Now I just need to get my finances in order and get a damned DB item.

I had been wondering whether DB items can be pulled off your corpse in OTF. I know they can pull off other items from your body, and of course out of your hands. I learned that the hard way, when I thought it was hands only.

My capped priest uses 8x HCP brig behind the barrier, and a relatively plain 5x runestaff. I'm thinking of using my fixskill to go back to shields when I find a shield I like. I can't believe you use a 10x tower behind the barrier, Fallen, you die and get that stolen, that's gonna suck. If I do go back to shields, I'll probably use a 5x, since nothing back there can hit me when I'm lying prone in offensive.

They are not targetted, no. Neither should be things like Self-chargers. Mage rechargeables? Yes.

I've had close calls once or twice in the year or so of constant hunting there, but my character's roleplay is that he depart confirms immediately on death unless there is a Dhe'nari cleric (read never) on hand. Also, they changed that stupid bug that kept you in RT after death.

I also use a +50 buckler at OTF, never even come close to losing it in some few years.

Stunseed
08-16-2007, 05:18 PM
Stun uses an 8x waraxe ( 4x flaring axe in OTF ), a 7x spiked buckler, and 5x decent crit padded augmented chain ( 7x lightning resistant in OTF ).

Keyvon uses a 4x Siolan dagger, a 10x aegis, and 4x crit padded weightless fulls ( the ring fulls ).

The ring armors are what decent crit padded if I recall? It's been a while since I recall helping someone back the padding out on the ring armors.

Really a shame that you can't use premium points to take the padding up to heavy, unless staff has changed their mind and will now allow it.

My sorcerer uses x6 heavy crit padded cuirboulli if I recall, though I'd love to have found for a decent price some x8 or x10 masterfully crit padded cuirboulli or leather breastplate. Prices on such armor when they come up is on the side of outrageous.

Is there even 10x mcp lbp out there?
I can't remember which Redorc had but that was something like it.
I wouldn't wear it anyway becouse it was 'pot bellied' until I could have it changed. Unlike Evarin who'd wear a tutu if it was padded enough. :D

Yeah I'm fairly certain there are some top end crit padded leather breastplates. Krackenstar sold a bunch when he left or the stuff was sold by who ever bought Krackenstar. Not sure but I seem to recall a MCP or two sold. This level of padding of course all happened before the reign of of the GMs who worshipped at the alter of balance and stopped allowing padding of such high levels to go onto armor.

Though I understand a need for balance I think that they took it waaay to far in recent years. (Shrugs) Like you though I'd have to get armor altered if it looks like a tutu before putting it on my characters! LOL

If there are sets of LBP or Cuirb out there with MCP or better, I haven't seen them for sale. I own the highest padded set of Cuirb I could come across. If there is a set at or higher than MCP, I would appreciate getting a description of it.

I think Redorcs armor was 8x VHCP Cuirb.

I have it, it sounds like:

some dark kraken-scale armor traced with veins of silver - 4x MCP, I got the bitch down to base weight, too. Weighs but 8 pounds.

What do you guys think is better?

4x MCP Cuirb or 7x HCP Resistant to Slash and Puncture LBP with Regyy's Fire protection?

I REALLY am digging the padding, but I miss the elemental resistances.

Malvadere

Asha

is it fully resistant to slash + puncture?

Yeah the 7x but still masterful cuir .. close call

Either some 7x lightened full plate or 4x lightened HCP full plate.

I use a variety of weapons- 4x iasha morning star, 1x vhcw morning star, 0x mcw morning star, 7x sancted plasma flare crowbill, and I am working on a 7x perfectly forged morning star.

I carry a 7x shield.

Deadelf

Fallen I think I'd go with the x7, though I might be tempted to hold on to the other and try to get it further enchanted via premium points.

Xand's got a set of 9x HCP LBP, weighs 1 pound with Regyy's fire resis.

Best set of LBP I've seen. VHCP isn't worth losing the resis and the weight makes it a blessing.

7x sonic short sword, sonic shield was about +63 last time I checked, 10x double chain.

My capped empath had FGB and a 10x shield, then dropped down to an 8x shield.

Level 88 rogue had 6x mbp then dropped to FGB and a 4x-5x composite bow with ebladed arrows.

Certain areas can inhibit the desire to bring out the high end hand held gear due to being disarmed or corpse stripped of it if you die.

Definately pad the armor if you can, or at least up the ET.

I'm using 5x HCP augmented chain now on my ranger, I have some golvern aug chain two enchants away from 7x at which time I'll pad that.

Danical

capped gnome bard.

pure = 7x sonic aug chain, 7x sonic tower shield.
archer = Self-Ammo Crossbow, 7x sonic aug chain.
