I'm currently eating a fajita burrito with carnitas and it is spectacular.

discuss the wonders of chipotle

I get the veggie burrito with guacamole in it sometimes and OH MAN IT'S SO GOOD. There's one guy particularly at the place who makes them the best. Also whatever limey goodness they put on the chips is YUM!

I had a Chipotle next door to my old work location, I used to eat there at least twice a week. I miss it now. :(

For some reason, the word "Chipotle", regardless of the context, annoys me.

that doesn't mean that I don't think chipotle is tasty. : -D

I like chipotle sauce at almost any mexican resturant. I also like eating at Chipotles. They put a little too much rice in the burritos for my taste, but their soft tacos are the bomb, much the same as their lime chips and hot sauce.

Ok, there goes the craving for Chinese, I want Mexican now.

Bastards, closest one here is in RI, and RI sucks. Oh well, we have Margarita's here in Connecticut and we're getting a Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville this year, so eat it!

We have a Chipotle right next to the bars I go to at IU. Open till 3 or 4 AM I think. You can't beat that after closing down a bar....

I miss the Mexican food options in California. Where I live in New York, the closest we come to mexican food is Taco Bell. :(

I'd rather go to one of the many many local mexican food restaurants in my city than some chain.

You can randomly throw a stick and hit a mexican food resturant here on Houston.

If you're really brave you can get some from the Taqueria trucks that park in the parking lots and sell to the laborers.

I had lengua tacos (NOT FROM THE TRUCKS!!!) the other day. Not the best thing I've tasted but not too bad if you keep the spices up.

LOL, the lady who makes me tamales brought some in to work. They tasted funny until I added the hot sauce from hell. Then I think I killed all of my taste buds and saliva glands in one fell swoop. They went down fine after that. ;)

The texture was interesting. Those Mexicans do some crazy shit with their food though. I'm still not up for cabrito though, no matter how you cook it.

One of my favorites is migas with chorizo.

They put a little too much rice in the burritos for my taste.

I always get the fajita burrito w/ black beans and no rice. The rice is pretty blah and I agree, the rice to everything else ratio is unnecessary.

I also enjoy El Burrito Loco. (Burritos as big as your head!) They're pretty authentic for a chain, and they seem to be right around every big10 school.

I love stuffed jalapenos. But not with cream cheese, I like cheddar.

As for the dried ones, what I want to know is why does everyone pronounce it chi-pol-te?

They put the l before the t when they say it out loud, but the l is after the t when it's spelled. It drives me nuts when they do that on TV commercials.

Luckily for me this area has plenty of great dining.

Jalapeno Heaven in Branford CT...

shredded beef tacos, refries, saffron rice, and salsa they make fresh every day and is never the same twice, because they don't use a measuring cup to make it - and sometimes just get in a cilantro mood and toss extra cilantro in for the hell of it.

and - dessert - ice cream nachos!

A platter with triangled fried flour tortillas (which they fry themselves, none of that bagged crap) - sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar. Then - they toss some bite-sized cubes of vanilla ice cream on top. Then - flourettes of whipped cream. THEN - mini chocolate chips and mixed nuts. THEN - chocolate syrup and raspberry syrup - AND - if you ask, they'll drizzle kahlua over the whole thing.

Sick sick sick. And SO scrumptious!

Yup close enough to stalk, we all live in Southeastern CT. But you're really not being fair to Ortega's. That place rules especially the carne fundido and the flan. Zavalia's is alright, but overpriced and too classy for my tastes. When I eat Mexican I want to be in a more casual environment. I hear Sombrero's is great, if you can figure out when they're open.

A Houston or Texan Mex restaurant I'd give a chance. As for these people talking about them in Ohio and New England and mainly about franchises at that. ROFLxtoomany.

Like I said we have plenty of very fine Mexicano restaurants. Real and franchise... It's still Mexican tho... you can't polish a turd. (or beans and rice for that matter)

LOL, anyone who adds shit like potatoes to their chili con carne or in any form of a burrito just cant be called mexican by any means. Northerners put wierd shit in mexican food.

Turds aside, with Tex-Mex the focus is on the MEAT (chicken, pork, and also fish), not the beans and rice, which are considered accompaniments.

Hell I'll even treat. All the margaritas you can remain standing to drink, salsa to die for, and a menu of MEAT dishes that will make you forget food for the next 24 hours. Houston has not earned the reputation of being one of the fattest cities in America for nothing.

You better add "margarita tsunami" to your budget then.. I'll put it down for 2010 on the calendar to give you enough time to save.

As far as meat dishes go... My favorites are already TEXAS(tex-mex and bbq) and the Carolinas (bbq). Honorable mention going to Florida for Greek and Cuban dishes.

Yeah, real suburban- if you consider a city that's over 300 years old "suburban". Fucking Benedict Arnold burnt it down during the Revolutionary War. My house is a virtual baby for my neighborhood at 100 years old. When was your prefab built?

I hate to break it to you, but New England has immigrants from all over the world, much like the Pacific Northwest not just Canadians and Cubans like Florida.

Within walking distance of my house alone there locally owned Mexican, Italian, Greek, Thai, Japanese, Indian and Chinese restaurants ALL owned and operated by immigrants from those countries- this in a city with a population under 25k should give you an inkling of the kind of diversity we celebrate in these parts. You could eat a different style of food every day of the month here and never walk into a franchise.

Besides the weather is so bad the only thing we have to do here eat and drink- so we know our fucking food.

Not so much an immigrant contest as reactions from insinuations of culinary ignorance cast from the cosmopolitan cultural center that is Tampa Bay. Sean2 needs to go to Busch Gardens and have a hotdog and Budwieser.
