View Full Version : Do you think Whatley even cares anymore?

So I heard Whatley didn't even want a SImucon to happen this year. I think after 20 years of running this thing he's lost his passion for the game, and is only strictly in it for the money.
I think he has a disdainful an almost nose-in the air aloofness for his current playerbase. He probably thinks of us as pathetic "losers" and don't understand why we can't shake the game even after paying 45$ a month for years and years on end.
So I'm going to ask you do you think Simutronics would be more profitable and have better games if Whatley stopped being the owner and someone with more passion and drive stepped in?
BTW, Simucon did happen mainly due to the pleading by the GMs (Who are obviously in it for the game seeing how they are not paid and stil contribute so much of their time -awesome people btw- ... I also bet Whatley considers these people as suckers as he rolls around in his money laughing his head off because he doesn't pay squat to maintain these games... )

Who are you?
I think someone already mentioned why Whatley didnt want to do another Simucon. I dont think it was because he just doesnt care either.
Someone correct or add to this. I heard it here on these boards in one of the numerous SIMU.* threads.

IF Whatley had to attend a UN security council meeting then I can understand. But at this point Simucon DID happen and Whatley didn't even bother showing at all even for a quick hello AND even though he lives in the same city where Simucon had taken place.
This means even though he was the creator and CEO of these games he couldn't take a 30 minute drive and quickly say hello to the people who provide him with a living. This is a slap in the face in my opinion. It also means he just doesn't care.

OMG he was busy and had other more important things to do than go to convention for a game. Some of you people are so silly for assuming he doesn't care.

Who are you?
The Rehashed Topics Fairy. Just when things are getting quiet, along comes a poll about something that's been discussed ad nauseum for as long as anyone can remember.
I could see if this was an all employee gathering and he didn't bother to show.
I'm sure he has more important things to do than show his face at a gamers convention just to say "hello". That's what his peons are not paid to do, but do so willingly anyway.
Also, you sound kinda bitter.

Yeah I really don't understand where his angst for this game and its staff comes from.

I have nothing against the staff, just Whatley who I believe doesn't really do anything in both the creative and technical sense. I really think almost every aspect of HJ or even GS is done by the coders and people who are passionate about the game. Whatley just sits there and collects the check every month.
And no, if you can't drive 30 minutes to your company's only convention and say hello to the people who essentially run the game and work for you for free. Then there is a real lack of respect between Whatley and the staff & players.
You forgot option 3 - I dont care what Whatley thinks, or anyone else for that matter, especially this fucked up poll and thread.

I know I dont.
He pays people to care.
Edited to add, not really what you'd want to call "paying", but they care so why should he.

I'm so tempted to start a poll titled:
"Is the Players Corner better off with or without Sypher?"

Yea man... at this point, it really doesn't matter if Whatley particularly cares. The slew of GMs behind GS care; the majority care an incredible amount, and thankfully, it's them making the game [better].

INGREDIENTS
6 cups water
2 cups uncooked grits
1/2 cup butter, divided
3 cups shredded Cheddar cheese, divided
1 pound ground pork sausage
12 eggs
1/2 cup milk
salt and pepper to taste
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a large baking dish.
Bring water to a boil in a large saucepan, and stir in grits. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer about 5 minutes, until liquid has been absorbed. Mix in 1/2 the butter and 2 cups cheese until melted.
In a skillet over medium-high heat, cook the sausage until evenly browned. Drain, and mix into the grits. Beat together the eggs and milk in a bowl, and pour into the skillet. Lightly scramble, then mix into the grits.
Pour the grits mixture into the prepared baking dish. Dot with remaining butter, and top with remaining cheese. Season with salt and pepper.
Bake 30 minutes in the preheated oven, until lightly browned.

You say that like it's a bad thing. What are you, 14? Lots of people would be fucking thrilled to enjoy that sort of success - "Here is my rather large volunteer base doing 20+ hours of work every week so I can buy stuff. In your face, suckers!"
That's the point of starting a company and making it successful. Say what you want about Simu, I certainly do, but they obviousy make profits.

My problem with the poll is that the options are motherfucking misspelled. Both of them, so I can't even vote on which option is more correct.

How often does a subject like this pop up?
Anyone who think the OWNER of a business doesn't care about their livelihood is a moron to an extreme degree.
There is one universal truth that anyone who own/operates/manages a business knows. You can't please everybody.
Of course he fucking cares about Simu. He's not likely working a second job and praying Simu generates enough revenue to keep the servers and connection up. If you look at the direction the playing community has taken over the past decade it's obvious he caters to the largest group that gives him the less grief ... while still maintaining a profit.
If you don't like it, find a new sandbox ... it's not like you own the sandbox you're playing in now.
