I haven't actively played Gemstone since 3 so I'm catching up. I made a new rogue and here is what I have. I appriciate any feedback. I don't remember much about rogues in general.

So what I want out of my rogue is a balance. I want fun fighting skills and the ability to pick really well. My concerns are:

1. When do I stop armor training?
2. Am I okay defense wise? 2x dodging is what krakiipedia suggests. Should I be picking up shields?
3. I'm at 42 hit points at level 2. My constitution is 90. What should I do here? Physical trainings is where I'm most lost.
4. Any other feedback is welcome even just to confirm this plan.

1x - Physical Training
1x - Armor
1.5x - Combat Meneuvers
2x - Edged
2x - Ambush
2x - Dodging
2x - Preception
3x - Stalking & Hiding
3x - Picking
3x - Disarm

These are my sats

Normal (Bonus) ... Enhanced (Bonus)
Strength (STR): 90 (25) ... 90 (25)
Constitution (CON): 90 (20) ... 90 (20)
Dexterity (DEX): 80 (15) ... 80 (15)
Agility (AGI): 71 (10) ... 71 (10)
Discipline (DIS): 80 (15) ... 80 (15)
Aura (AUR): 50 (0) ... 50 (0)
Logic (LOG): 60 (10) ... 60 (10)
Intuition (INT): 61 (10) ... 61 (10)
Wisdom (WIS): 40 (-5) ... 40 (-5)
Influence (INF): 41 (-4) ... 41 (-4)
Mana: 0 Silver: 0

<<1. When do I stop armor training?>>

For a melee rogue, the answer is either never, or when you get 140 ranks assuming you don't cast spells.

<<2. Am I okay defense wise? 2x dodging is what krakiipedia suggests. Should I be picking up shields?>>

If you use a one-handed weapon, you should always have something for your offhand, be it two-weapon combat or a shield.

<<3. I'm at 42 hit points at level 2. My constitution is 90. What should I do here? Physical trainings is where I'm most lost.>>

Pick up physical training whenever you can. You get X health per rank of physical training (depending on your character) until you reach your race's max health + CON bonus. It's also the primary skill for redux, so even if you don't need it for health, you should still get it when you can afford to.

You'll likely have to reduce your picking/disarming somewhat to fit in at least 1x shield.

should I get shield instead of dodging?

TWC instead of shield imo

Bobmuhthol helped me out.

I'm going this route.
1x - Physical Training
1x - Armor
1x - Combat Maneuvers

2x - Edged
2x - Ambush
2x - Dual Weapons
2x - dodging
2x - Preception
2x - Stalking
2x - Picking
2x - Disarming

Spare points may go into Cmans or picking stuffs

Quick question about first aid--is this needed at all? I was thinking maybe to train a few seconds off acantha in a pinch, but that hardly seems worth the training points, right?

It helps with skinning.

Bob's suggestions are good, if you dont want to be an excellent picker. I have a 61 train rogue. She 3x disarm, used to 3x picking but since learning Lock Mastery in the guild, I've fixskilled her to slightly over 2x and added the extra points for stuff like ambush and cman's.

I never took her further than wearing brig, she stopped training armor at 30 trains and honestly she does fine in it. She also has 4 spells, up to 404.

haha...let me rephrase--i'm a gs3 player from back in the 20th century. First Aid was always about skinning, reducing RT for herbs, and wrapping up wounds faster. That doesn't seem to have changed in GS4, and I have yet to see it included in many (if any) training plans.

This forum's thoughts on it--critical or otherwise--would be appreciated.

I always went with a 2hander over duel weapons

First aid has ties to the effectiveness of spells in certain spell circles. But nothing that has to do with a rogue. If you're a COL rogue, having First Aid is a waste of points unless you plan on making your fortune skinning.

I guess my biggest question is what kind of build are you interested in?

Bob's plan is great for a pure combat - melee style. I'm not sure why you would want to focus on ambush in the later years with heavy armor and dual weapons... but I'm not a dual weapons afficiando.

I had a rogue that used 3 basic builds after the advent of fixskills came along.

1. - OHE-Shield/picker where I was between 2.5x and 3x picking. Hunting style was stalk/ambush. Armor was brig while young, mbp after 50.

2. OHE-Shield/Archer, no picking. Pure combat, capable of open melee and stalk/ambush. Armor was mbp.

3. Archer/picker. Focus was on stalk/snipe combat, mbp (then later hcp brig) armor, and 3x picking. This was after level 80.

Lots of ideas for rogue builds in the rogue folder. Find one that fits your RP and hunting/non-hunting preference and tweak it to fit your persona.

Thanks, Gan. That was what I needed to hear.
