Sweep v. Trip

Is one more effective than the other?

Is the additional restriction on trip (having to have a polearm) simply the cost of its ability to do damage when it is executed?

Get spiked leg-guards and you can do damage with sweep and not need to carry around that pole arm.

Not to mention the damage is usually a minor and 10 HP, nothing to go crazy about.

So should I just learn charge then?

My character is a polearming bard , so it's not a big deal to be carrying one around.
