View Full Version : The PC and work
Ok, so I cant access the PC from my work desktop anymore.
Everytime I try to connect, it times out and goes to the generic screen - page not found.
However, accessing any other site and it comes up automatically.
:wtf:
Has this IP been filtered or something by our illustrious IT department? And is that the common side effect when something's been filtered?
If it were blocked, then I would see the big nasty blocked screen with all the WARNINGS!!!!1ONEONEone. Right?
:puzzled:

Man, I just spent the past two days dealing with the same thing, but on my home IP. Nothing in my home would access the PC. However, I could access it anywhere else. I spoke with Kranar via a third party and it turned out my IP had been banned for some unknown reason. Kranar's still looking into it. Perhaps the host is using a new spam blacklist or something and they're using ranges of IPs or something along those lines. Obviously, after he spoke with the host they reinstated my IP.

Missed that part and the answer is no. You'll have absolutely no idea that you've been blocked. You just see a screen as if you weren't connected to the internet at all. I was doing Trace Routes to the PC and everything to try and circumvent what I correctly assumed to be a block. The solution was considerably more accessible than downloading IP masking software, heh.

what you're describing is exactly what happens with blocked sites at my job.

Thanks for letting me know.
As Meges said, the host had banned the IP address he was using. The host may be experiencing attacks and taking aggressive measures to end them, as such banning entire ranges of IP addresses. I have contacted them to
determine why the IP addresses have been banned and will let you know as soon as they get back to me.

And this would be a good reason to get to be very good friends with the folks in your IT departments, so they can make exceptions on your PC.

I think my wife is sleeping with someone in her IT dept. She plays gemstone just about all day, and she's not worried about being caught.
Sometimes I wish I had a desk job, but I hate working inside.
Maybe when I turn 50 years old, I'll want to work at a desk, but I'm still young!
Medi... 43 still young at heart, and health.
Whew!
And I thought it was just a liberal conspiracy to keep me from accessing the PC at work!

Until Kranar can get the Host to play nice you could try going through a proxy.

I play from work too once I get the piles of emails attended. Gemstone isnt exactly a system hog so it doesnt throw off usage flags.

Some people can get all their work done and do other things. Don't hate because you have to struggle to finish your work while you're at work!
Maybe work at work?
Considering you know absolutely nothing as to what my work day consists of, I'll just chalk this post up to trolling. ;)
And when you can say that you spend 100% of your workday doing work things, with no time allotted to personal persuits (of any sort, including phone calls), then you can admonish someone else about what they do during their work day. Until then, STFU.

while I can't play games at work I would say that i probably slack off for about 2 hours a day. I read up on the news, talk to coworkers etc. I bet if I went in and focused for a full 8-10 hours i would get alot of work done and would probably be in the office less but I just get burned out to quick.
How much time do you guys think you spend not working at work?

I work about 30 hours a week, I'm at work about 50.

I'd say I spend about 90% of my time doing actual work. Of course, I work in a woodmill so it's a little different from office work where there's something to do besides push heavy things around.
