So, I was trying to come up with a name for a new character and got stumped. Decided to try something fairly obvious to see the new name choices...
Name: Hitler.
LCI in less than 6 seconds.
Suddenly a large group of burly giantmen appear and wrestle Hitler to the ground. "Awright, Hitler!" barks the leader. "Come along quietly now, and you won't get hurt!

Too bad that wasn't the case back in 1925...where the hell were those giantmen?

And that adds to the game how?
Thanks for amusing yourself and a handful of your high school friends, while the rest of us try to roleplay!

It gives you some inspiration to know that it only took GM's six seconds to round up a poor name!

I would, but you seem to have it now, and you seem pretty comfortable with the fit, thx.

...I was looking for suggested names to screw with to come up with something acceptable. How was I to know some terribly obvious name like Hitler wouldn't be taken?
I'm sorry if I detracted from your game experience for less than 6 seconds.

The question you really should be asking yourself is:
Is the real life name of a modern historical figure, one with connotations that hundreds of people might find offensive and disruptive to the environment of the game, really a name that I should be chosing to enter the game with?
As I said before and I'll say again, you didn't even really use common sense or consideration for others who play the game, you just wanted to entertain yourself primarily.

Alright, here's the point of my posts. Not that I'm a humorless bitch, as you would like to paint me -- but more to illustrate the totally hypocritical attitudes many of you strike here.
I have read, ad nauseum, how much you hate when some people go OOC or act like twits in the game. And how you wish the staff would do something, level stiffer penalties for such behavior.
And then, when one of you rolls up a totally inappropriate name, one they should know better than to introduce into the game, one they should have resisted the temptation to roll up and enter the game with -- you laugh at it, and tell me to lighten up when I'm saying the exact same thing you're complaining about.
Have a good look in the mirror, folks.

Had I not gotten LCId, I'd have either reported so I would, or snuck to Frith's Inn to reroll. Better yet, I might've thought to delete the character slot so that the name would be unusable by anyone until the next purge.
Unlike those who proudly wear the horrible names, I'd have gotten rid of mine, as I never meant it to join the game.

I completely agree that Artha should have known better than roll up someone named "Hitler"... the modern day historical figure does conjure up some ill feelings.. especially with certain religious groups.
But, there is a difference between rolling up someone and going on the net OOC. The roll up will only be seen by those that are looking at every arrival into the game (Which in itself is an OOC mechanic) and/or anyone that was sitting in the room he popped in. Someone going OOC on the net affects many many more people.

Consider this view then, and please take it as a dialog and not personal or sniping:
You roll up Hitler. Those who watch people enter the game or see you in the game, well, some of them are less mature than you. Which is being very polite, probably.
They think, "Neat! I gotta roll up some freakin' name!" Next thing you know, there are a few people rolling up everything from Osamabinladen to Dubyabush. It has an unfortunate cascade effect. GMs busy with trying to make sure the game runs smoothly and help those experiencing issues with GS4 are now distracted from that, and need to keep an eye on people who are just playing around and violating policy.
As you probably already have guessed, "Hitler" pushes a hot button for me. Had you picked a name of someone who was less offensive, instead of someone who was responsible for ordering mass genocide, I probably just would have rolled my eyes and ignored the thread.
I would like to thank you, though, for having more sense than that Scully person wandering around talking about the X-Files.

Dev GMs, who do the GSIV stuff don't LCI people. CS GMs, who interact with customers do. People creating retarded names wouldn't have any effect on the development or streamlining of GSIV.

It's just a Gemstone message board. Who cares what she thinks?
Kind of ironic that you are getting worked up over someone who posts on the internet all the while telling her she needs to calm down.

Actually, I just wanted to pick a freaking name. And no, that name wasn't Hitler. That name was a name I came up with after playing with an automatically generated name.
How is any of this funny?

No, you are a humorless bitch.
You might have made a decent point, but that doesn't change this cold, hard fact.
Good luck with that stick!
