Simucon 2007 Thoughts?

So, what did y'all think of the Simucon this year? Assuming you went that is...

For me, I liked the open format (very few seminars compared to prior years) but didn't like the hotel at all. It had much fewer areas to hang out than we're used to and there were fewer convenient and cheap sources of food. There was also a noticeable lack of people in general and the DR players made up the majority of attendees, from the looks of things.

Overall, I had a good time, but it defintely was more subdued than other years (we did have some craziness though). Supposedly Whatley didn't want to have it this year but Bubba and some of the GMs pushed for it (again, supposedly). There was noticably less corporate support this year as a result, with less effort put into badges, signage, events, etc, and no t-shirts at all, AFAIK. They did give away a laptop and a Wii though.

I only came for a night, but I had a super great time.

Just from what I saw, I liked the other hotel a bit better because you could hang out together INSIDE. But the doubletree was okay. The best part for me is visiting everyone, and that I definitely got to do!

Anyhow I did a google search and found a few more pics, couple semi decent chicks from Dragon Realms, but not much out there yet. People are slow!

Someone should pay for me to go to all the CONs just so I can take decent pictures and make some photo albums of the events.

Someone should pay for me to go to all the CONs just so I can take decent pictures and make some photo albums of the events.

If I'm not mistaken, there was at least one year where they made a selling point of the registration fee the delivery of a Simucon Memories book or something like that. They had a pro or semi-pro photographer come in and take tons of pictures. I don't think they ever made the booklets though.

I haven't seen SHIT for notes on the discussions in terms of planning, aside from the few snippets I posted. This has been, and remains to be the main reason I would attend. Either I missed them, or the information wasn't put out on the officials. Hopefully someone will disseminate more info on other updates now that it is over(it is over, right?)

Any idea which year that was? I have been attending Simucon since 2000 and do not remember a Simucon Memories Book ever being a benefit of any registration. If it is true, I would like to do a bit of research about that.

Yes, Melissa did leave for Blizzard about 2 years ago. But Hunter was fired before that.

Hunter left the game for awhile and came back. She's currently on staff again, just not Whatley's (har har).
