Ok, this actually pertains more to the text game Gemstone so I put it here.
I was trying to figure out why Simutronics would make a inferior game when in all probability it would probably not make with the other big boys. First, I was thinking well they might become a niche market what with the pay for items plan they got, called by simutronics people as "tiered pricing" Again, $45for a MMO, gimme a break! Then I thought no no, it might be worth doing but I don't think it's worth the effort.
But then I realized wait a minute what if Simutronic's business strategy is to get people in with a graphical MMO which has a far larger market to work from and then lead them into the Gemstone game with free trials and what not. Sure, many will be turned off by the text format, but many may actually stick around?
So, do you think HJ is intentionally being created not only to make money as a stand alone MMO but to also prop up sagging Gemstone sub numbers?

Uh oh, -TheE-'s coming after you soon.
Honestly, the fact that people think the game will be released is laughable. If it does get released, I'll try it for a few days and probably move on. I don't expect anything good to come from Simu.

Simple answer. No.
Most up and coming gamers have been raised on big name graphical games. *Most* don't care to deal with a text based system at all. They want flashy graphics.
Might it lead a few people in? Possibly. But anyone actually interested in text based MMO's either already knows about GS, or will find it easily enough in the search.

I'm just wondering how you stumbled onto Gemstone when you don't even play, and why you care so much what Simutronics does as a company when you're already putting down the graphics game that isn't even out. I don't understand where your motivation came from.

My guess is it's someone who's played gemstone but doesn't want to admit it to others. I can't say I blame the guy honestly.

I'm actually just fascinated by this company's very existence. It's like there are these HUGE multi million or even billion dollar, in the case of SoE, companies and then you got this pygmy thing going over here that survived the dark ages of mmo gaming. I'm just very fascinated...

He's either what Alfster said or it's the same guy that came on here preaching to all of us about what a destructive cycle GS is.

i think if you packaged HJ and Gemstone...where you could pay $20 and play both, it might be successful.
Gemstone while they are at work and HJ when they come home..

Wait wait...no....ok, yeah I think I got it now. What if Whatley was abducted by UFO's that harvested his organs for the sake of research, but the UFO's then realized that 3 or 4 dozen nerdy gamers would realize what had happened when there were no more regular updates to things like surnames for a few weeks, so they replaced him with a pod person Whatley, who is going to use the beta of Hero's Journey as psychological warfare on the nerdy human populace who will surely be so frantic when they realize the game will never release and all their beta test time has gone to waste that it drives them mad and they have to go outside and kick the garbage can, because the aliens know they never come outside of their house otherwise and can't be abducted via normal means, and then grab them at that moment thus sealing the pact? You think that's what's up? Holy shit I never thought of that, I can't believe it.

I think for $25 Basic on both it may work...maybe.

You know that GemStone's been around since 1980-something, right? WELL before any sort of current-day graphical MMO was even conceived?
Right. So GemStone was one of those Superior games, back in the day and age when no graphical MMO's existed. I'm going to assume from all of your posts that you probably weren't alive back when GemStone first came out, and in it's prime time. Or, perhaps you were alive, but not old enough to articulate what GemStone was about, and why it was so cool then and still cool now?
Anyways, Simutronic's started HJ so that they could come out from their niche with the text-based MMO's and get into the big graphical MMO world. Of course, they started on HJ lots of years ago, and quite a few people wonder if it'll ever come out. Simu's been selling HE (HeroEngine, if you don't know about it), and it's starting to feel like HE is more of their bread-and-butter then HJ will be.

Will you continue to play Gemstone, knowing that it may eventually be killed off by HJ?

I have a feeling GemStone won't be killed off by HJ, since they're two COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PRODUCTS.
I repeat... GemStone and HJ are TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PRODUCTS.
HJ will NOT kill GemStone.
If anything bad happens, it'll be HJ failing miserably, taking Simutronics down with it. And with Simutronics goes GemStone, DragonRealms, CyberStrike, Modus Operandi, and Alliance of Hero's.
In other words... yes, I'll continue playing GemStone until Simutronics closes business.

Those three people that play Modus Operandi will be devestated! They only just now figured out they ALL were spies!

What's the sudden interest in Hero's Journey? Why do you even give a shit about something that may or may not come out, and whether it will or won't have an effect on gemstone?
I would think that people who still play GS are content to play GS and leave the whatifs to things that actually pertain to GS... like breakage coming out or why Tsin is breaking the game or for some, how many millions it'll take to cyber that ho at the Dais...
