yeah gimme a minute since I never made a poll before
The answers seem kind of backwards to the question to me. Do I like having more than 1 folder? Yes I like the organization.

Michiko and Sean suck at having an opinion. It's official.

By the way, Kranar - if you are around. Is it possible with these forums to have the posts from the current 8 subdivided folders mirrored into the lower portion?
Duplicate postings, but a post in one effects both.
I am assuming that its not something thats supported. But figured I would ask.

I like having multiple folders, so I don't have to sort through a fuck-ton of posts just to get to the one or two that I might care about.

A fuck-ton, rofl, that folder is barren.

Lol true.
AD has a good idea... duplicate posts.... one organized by folder and one the old way. Everyone would be happy except the lazy mod that would have to maintain it.

Well if it worked the way I 'imagine' it could work. The mod wouldnt have any more work either way.
The problem is I don't think it is doable - unless someone were to recode the forum somehow. And I am not asking something like that.

Probably not. But if the majority hates it a lot we'll switch back (hopefully)

I just wanna swear at people in threads...
Quertyrama (http://forum.gsplayers.com/member.php?u=3951) has 0, count them, posts yet still has an opinion.

That kind of thing will be kept in mind when I'm looking at the votes.

Of course it would be a shame to actually give the folders in the merchant area a chance before they are slammed.

It has only been a week and a half. I don't consider that enough of a chance.

I like the sub-forum folders, I just think there are too many of them. If it were me, I'd combine everything into 4 folders.
appraisals ~ (Appraisals)
trades/wanted ~ (Wants & Trades)
characters/silvers ~ (Characters & Coins)
flat priced/auctions/high-end valuables ~ (Stuff For Sale)
Too many folders eliminates impulse shoppers which is a big part of selling. In the old folder someone might be looking for a character and run across an add for some 7x HCP armor and want to buy it. This no longer happens much. While multiple folders are nice for shoppers to find what they want, it's bad for the seller. This is why I think 4 folders is a happy medium.
Just my two cents.

Okay, maybe I'm missing something..but what is so hard about just hitting "New Posts" at the top of your screen when you come to the site? No big deal and you can see the new topics....
I don't see what the big deal is about these new categories.

That works for somebody who is a PC fiend (like me), but for someone who doesn't really come to the PC very often, and isn't interested in threads about gossip, and threads about how the gossip was handled poorly, and threads attempting to take action against poor gossip handling, hitting "New Posts" results in a lot of crap.
I notice if I am busy or go away for just a weekend, I come back and have some 100+ "New Posts", and if I want to see anything merchant related I would really be better suited going strait to that folder.
Not everyone has the same reading styles and I'm not sure conformity of how people should read the boards is the goal here. Personally I think it's stupid not to use the Today's Posts drop down because I don't even like the New Post button. But not everyone wants to wade through all the Ilvane sucks threads when they are coming here just to buy/sell stuff on any given day.
The quicklinks/Today's posts option is what I use.
I agree that those only come here for the merchanting, having organized threads by some form of category (either detailed as it is now or the abridged Onurb version) will help their searches.

I don't mind the folders, but I think they are spread a little too thin. I like where Onurb was headed.
One other idea I had would be to display the 3 most recent posts in each folder under a header. Keeping with the old format where everything is viewable on one page, yet people can see them broken down into sections with the most recent posts. EX:
Character/Coins Folder: (most recent 3 posts)
XXXX
XXXX
XXXX
Auctions/Flat Price Folder:
XXXX
XXXX
XXXX
Trade/Wanted Folder:
XXXX
XXXX
XXXX
Appraisals Folder:
XXXX
XXXX
XXXX
Not sure how doable this is, but just thought I'd throw another idea out on the table while we're brainstorming

Some good ideas there. I actively still read the merchant folders as well and I still remain active in buying/selling. PERSONALLY I use today's post pretty much exclusively but I read the boards all day.
I did like it all in one folder as I could just go thru it whenever.. it's not much to keep up with.
Either way it really doesn't matter to me. However maybe combing a couple of them would help and be a nice medium.

Heads in the right place sthrok, but unfortunatly there would be a lot of coy bumping to keep posts in those top three... it would be a nightmare.

true, we'll just have to sweet talk Satira to keep her around to smack anyone that bumps more than 1x a day...

I wish we would have included a "condense the current folder system" option in the poll! Even if we drop the folders I still have to sucker-punch-moderate people who get out of hand - no sweet talk necessary.
Celephais

I don't think you should determine the fate of the folders based on a poll, because a 24/20 split is still pretty solidly split, if you think condensed folders is a good idea fucking coley decree it!
Listening to people is a good thing, but if you change everything based on the whim of the people you'll only achive mediocrity. Rule number one, the people don't know what they want.

I didn't make the poll to decide the fate of the merchant market. I just wanted an idea of who stands where and possibly why.
If someone wants to use it for that, so be it.
Less is more. Even using Onurbs idea of 4 folders is better than 8. I was going to suggest some ideas but I don't think it is necessary.
If someone wants to come up with a new, more detailed Poll, with more options feel free.

I want the old style back. I wasn't a very prominent poster but I read almost everything in the merchant's market.
The only problem with the old style is people's posts themselves. There was nothing more annoying than threads titled "looking for something..." and then the post simply says "7x or better mbp." Just make the thread title "LTB: 7x+ MBP" and post details/contact info.
Now, the problem is all the posts are spread too thin over all of these folders.
Also... the sticky "what's this worth" post was good enough in my opinion.

This bugs me a bit too, but generally if they said "Looking for..." and then their first line was "a rusty spoon" all you have to do is hover over the thread title with your mouse and it'll tool-tip show you it.

(From there you can even go to the User CP and "List view subscriptions" ... I may have just solved everybodies issue)

I do agree about that...
