View Full Version : Should Illvane Step down as Moderator?
With the recent observations of behavior from the moderator Illvane; I'm proposing a poll in the form of a petition to ask for Illvane's removal from a position of authority on these forums.
This poll will be private to protect all the chicken shits who wont vote in lieu of retribution.
For the record, I'm voting for her removal.

Personally I think yes but probably for a lot different reasons than you do. But I also think SP, Artha, and anyone else who just uses being a Mod as an excuse to read the behind the scenes posts should step down too.

But then you thought you knew what was going on in my personal life too, so whatever.

Yay, go ahead and bring that up too. YOU are the one who went out and told people YOUR story when it got broadcast on the boards. And when I ask about names in the thread, what happens? You IM ME out of the blue and say "oh that wasn't about me but it was similar". If you want to continue to lie to me and yourself, you go right ahead. Until then, kindly fuck off. I don't take kindly to people who lie to me, as you can see.

LOL at hate. Hate requires that you were liked to begin with. I simply think you suck at being a moderator. Well, I also think your political views are wacko too, but thats your right so who am I to care...
But with moderation, I think you really suck. Did I say that already? I'm also glad you're getting a laugh out of this, since most of us are laughing at you, not with you.
I don't have to know you personally to think you're a bad moderator I just had to work along side you. But we've been over this before.
Ilvane
07-20-2007, 04:08 PM
heh, because I was told that it wasn't about me afterwards.
So? I'm not allowed to IM you to tell you this?
We used to actually have civil conversations before, and I never had a problem with you. But until you knew what was going on in that situation, you should have kept your mouth shut.

You were told that the story wasn't about you...what bullshit. But fine. It wasn't about you? Okay. Let's try this. You were the OTHER story where you cheated on your boyfriend to make out with some other guy at a party. Yeah that makes it better. Thanks for setting me straight! Whew!
So? I'm not allowed to IM you to tell you this? Not bullshit, no.
We used to actually have civil conversations before, and I never had a problem with you. But until you knew what was going on in that situation, you should have kept your mouth shut. You sure love telling me to keep my mouth shut. Take your own advice. Why should I though? All I asked was for names mostly because I had been to those parties and was curious who was involved. Yeah I'm fucking nosey. At least this way I found out what kind of person you really are.

Couldn’t agree more.
If anyone has a problem with any moderator they can easily take up that concern with King Kranar. His rule is absolute. This is not a democratic board and its free to use if you follow TOS. Thats not to say Kranar is not a benevolent king of this domain... just that if you use his service for free, and have a problem with it, he is there to listen and make the call.
Ilvane does not strike me as a problem in the least compared to some users. If anything she may be too nice. Then again I don’t see every single post nor see how things get moderated. I’m pretty confident that if you are a user and have a problem with the way a mod does their job you ought to be ready to step up and do a better job.

Wow....
Some of you bastards really need to get out and join a fight club or something. If some mods made a mistake, I am sure (hope) they'll learn.
I really do think some of you are trying to join the "million posts on players corner" team by spouting off curses and band wagoning silly shit.
It's almost like the players corner version of Giberfecal. Rather then spouting a bunch of stuff you don't understand and commenting on any and every post, most of you folks just post negatively about every other post.
Quit beating a dead horse. Stop trying to get the last pathetic one liner you spent all night thinking up or found someone else on another forum use. Just comment and move on.
Of course if players corner is somehow keeping you from from beating puppies, going on a murder spree.... maybe that is a good thing.
However, it shoudn't be a crutch for some of you cry asses who can't open yer mouth in RL to take out yer angst against faceless others.
This forum has a lot cleaner lines then the gemstone forums, but the one loss it holds over GS forums 19oo technology is that I have to wade through 50 posts of QQ cry ass insults to get to any meat and potatos. Anyone that could come along and change that I would give a crown of laurels.
I vote a fuck no- but try and use some balance when yer deciding what to judge off limits and on limits. Don't get personally involved and choose sides.
I'd be happy to see quite a few folks get the boot, and warnings to clean up their acts throughout players corner.
This poll needs another option.
I don’t give two shits either way.

It is embarassing when new people come to these forums, and all they see is a bunch of idiots like you (sean2) post 2 sentence threads that add nothing to the discussion. Or jump all over them because they are fresh meat.
People bringing up the same old gripes. ruining a good topic by sissy fighting with the same people they always sissy fight with day in and day out. I'll be more then happy to see a moderator come along and slap anyone on the wrists. Hell I'd love to see you get tossed because yer one of the prime examples of ignorance on this forum.

Without any direction and rules it is what it is. A chaotic mishmash of tantrum throwing slappies. It adds nothing.
This forum does need moderation. And they need to enforce it a little more vigorously then in the past.
Just because it is a online forum doesn't mean we have to stray from accountability. A little courtesy and civility would improve this place 5-fold.

Two thoughts on this.
First is I'm glad we have finally come to a mutual feeling towards each other, especially since I've considered you a loser for quite some time.
Secondly, what makes you so special that everyone, me included, would want to strive for any consideration or opinion level by someone like you to begin with?
As for my contribution to the boards, my posts, threads, and discussions that I've either initiated or participated in speak for themselves. If you think I'm that bad for the PC, then perhaps you should start a poll. ;)

I've never seen a need to have more than 1 account here.
Yet people have, or create, multiple SNs for various purposes. Interestingly enough, polls like this usually have people with a 0 post count or matching IPs voting ... go figure.
Two thoughts on this.
First is I'm glad we have finally come to a mutual feeling towards each other, especially since I've considered you a loser for quite some time.
You base this on how I express my opinion, which differs from your own. I base my opinion on behavior ... such as this.
If my opinions, successes, failures ... et al make me a loser in your eyes, well I'll not be shedding any tears or show any remorse over it. I'm not the one that makes meaningless polls to bash the staff of a forum I chose to post in.
So we have you, who places people in the loser category because of a differing opinion or frame of mind, and on the opposite end of the spectrum there is me who would rather someone prove themselves to be a loser over dumb shit like this.
Once again I offer my congratulations.
Secondly, what makes you so special that everyone, me included, would want to strive for any consideration or opinion level by someone like you to begin with?
Why would I care? Why should you? Why waste the time and energy to drum up drama like this, and in doing so, be lumped together with the biggest tards in PC history? I personally don't give a rat's ass what you or anyone else thinks of me ... why in turn would or should I care or desire any faceless person to strive to appease me? Let alone you?
Again, I'm not the one that has created a thread about a staff member of a message board that no one forces me to read, post, or pay for.
As for my contribution to the boards, my posts, threads, and discussions that I've either initiated or participated in speak for themselves. If you think I'm that bad for the PC, then perhaps you should start a poll. ;)
All of that gets flushed down the toilet when you take the chump route ... sorry guy, but if you can't see that ... well, there's no hope of anyone but the ever evolving peanut gallery taking you seriously.
And you're in the elite group of Mods that was demoted. Is that a group of 1?
Hahaha ... way to spin it multiple log on boy. How many times did you vote?
Maybe you should give some detail about my "demotion" ... but I forget, you're a lifetime member of the peanut gallery with no clue about what transpired. Your sole purpose around that time was to spit up as much shit as you could.
Keep on voting ... and often in the same polls. No one really expects less.
He's in a group of his own. I don't pick on him anymore because it just feels wrong somehow with him being special and all.
Translation for the number one forum troll ... "I can't keep up anymore, I really never could but faking it makes my head hurt"
LOL Demoted?
I must have either missed or forgotten that story.
Is there a link?
I'm sure if you could go back more than 500 posts into a person's history you'd be able to find it, but it wasn't really anything spectacular.
In a nutshell a loser had a problem with getting a post yanked, wouldn't stop and started a thread ... just like this.
Other butthurt trolls who had a history of getting posts yanked decided to jump in. They claimed a majority ... yet there weren't that many of them. Polls were created, and in doing so ... new log ins appeared to vote as well ... along with accounts with matching IPs.
Long story short. This teenage Llyod Christmas (http://www.jerrydroberts.com/brokedowncinema/Poster/2003%20-%20Dumb.jpg) went emo over getting posts yanked or edited. Suddenly people with a history of this sort of bullshit (your poll) and trolling had a problem with the way I moderated the forum as a super mod. They bitched, I didn't change the way I moderated and well ... they weren't getting any support. Suddenly they had an issue with an avatar I was using (Bush sucking Saudi cock) after a few months of not having a problem with it.
Emo Lloyd Christmas decided to take a picture of me and make it into an avatar ... which is a no no . I had enough of him and gave him an option, remove it or watch his posts disappear. He thought I was bluffing and shit his pants when his post count started to drop and thus his e-peen start to shrink.
After the incident Kranar gave me options, I took one. Hence my demotion from super mod to mod. The peanut gallery took it as a victory, it didn't change anything but the title. Posts were still edited ... and when absolutely necessary ... deleted.
So ... OMG ... there you have my "demotion" ... it's still pretty laughable.

Speculation from a member on another member's actions which you cannot at all ever actually prove or believe based on facts sure does discredit a true statement. Saying "demotion" instead of plainly stating that it was a demotion does not make it less of a demotion. Other people's actions at the time do not reflect at all on what your behavior should be; unless you are completely mindless, you should have your own standards independent of everyone else. You apparently know everything about Mistomeer to combat one thing that he said in this thread, and even challenge him on the basis that he doesn't know the details of the events leading up to your demotion, but you're refuting nothing that he said: "And you're in the elite group of Mods that was demoted." Show me where Mistomeer's post includes any allusion to the reason why you were demoted and I'll stop posting on this forum forever.

So to sum it up: Everytime in the PC's history that one of these uproars in opinion on a douche mod have come up.. it's resulted in a better change. (yours included).
This time however since Illvane really has no authority over any real folder I doubt there will be any change. Hopefully she'll stop dropping stupid threats to delete or punish in other mod's folders because she's butt hurt over her "friends" getting called out.
That's really all that is needed. I think she makes a fine folder janitor otherwise.

So to sum it up: Everytime in the PC's history that one of these uproars in opinion on a douche mod have come up.. it's resulted in a better change. (yours included).
I wouldn't actually say things have resulted in a better change, but quite the opposite actually. The forums are in many ways far more hostile and one dimensional than they used to be and when these uproars and dramatic episodes occur what usually happens is some people who volunteered to help out on the forums get fed up and decide to leave. It's a pretty consistent trend and one that has definitely damaged the forums.
I know we do have a community of posters here, but some of you get this overwhelming sense of entitlement on here as if this were a high school playground and you're the big kids who aren't to be messed with. Doing things like belittling others, using insults, embarrasments, and ganging up to pressure your way of thinking on others as if the forums ought to revolve around you.
The fact of the matter is that this conflict isn't as one sided and as one dimensional as you guys make it out to be. As if it deserves such an incredibly hostile and dramatic episode over it. Yes, I agree that there is a conflict between allowing people to vent their frustration over GMs who get their personal life far too involved and mixed up with the game that they're entrusted to administer, as well as us wanting to prevent personal details of a human beings life from being posted all over this forum so that a bunch of trolls can have a field day getting a kick out of someone elses humiliation.
Some moderators, including Ilvane, have sided with the GM on this issue... Oh what a horror and injustice that must be; let's go start an entire episode about it to pressure her to quit and feel stupid about herself so we can pat ourselves on the back.
I don't doubt that some people really do have a sincere problem regarding whether GMs personal lives should be protected from the forums... and those people are expressing their points of view without being childish about it, and making good points for that matter. But there's also no doubt in my mind that many of you are also just using this problem as an excuse to gang up on someone you don't like, and that's something I resent and think does everyone who's a part of this community a great disservice.

You need to go back and consider my words more carefully, since you're only reading into them what you want to see. Here let me help you with the specifics.
What I said, "First is I'm glad we have finally come to a mutual feeling towards each other, especially since I've considered you a loser for quite some time."
Just so you're not continually confused. I'm not considering you a loser just because you disagree with me in this thread. I consider you a loser, and have done so for quite some time, based on the content of the posts you have made in the past as well as the shortsidedness you continue to display when responding to other's posts. This opinion that I have of you, just so we're clear, reaches back a few years now, its not nothing new or a revalation, its just something that I've not had a need to illustrate any clearer because you dont frequent the boards as much as you used to.
Additionally I could care less how successful you think you are or have become, and find it quite funny that you feel the need to bring that up in defending your internet honor. Newsflash, its the internet buddy, nobody cares about you, especially here, except perhaps you. Please take a moment and get over yourself.
With regards to bashing the staff. I reserve the right, as a member of the forums and as long as its within TOS, to bash whomever I wish. If there was a supreme problem with this, then either I would be banned by now, or I would have been effectively run off by an overwhelming majority of the board's population. For a good example of this, see Xcalibur or XTC. As a fellow member on these boards, one cant pick and choose what type of participation others can engage in except through the parameters of TOS. Just the same as a moderator cant pick and choose how to administer their authority as a moderation, with the expectation of not being called on it. With this last point, its easy to see from your history, that you would not understand this.
In conclusion, please try another means to debase what I'm trying to say, because you're either lost or incompetent in understanding what was really said. I'll let you try to figure out which.
You deserve a hand, seriously.

Not many would agree with you. Things have been much better overall.. I'd wager that you've lost more GOOD volunteer's because of the bad volunteer's bullshit.
Here's a simple solution.
Delete all threads and folders except for those explicitly involving Gemstone. That way you can pretty much cut out all activity by those who post here that do not play anymore.
Then you can amend TOS to empower mods to silence or delete any post or any flame, any off topic remark, any reference to any specific character or player, and then just call the boards the Gemstone IV offical forums part 2.
That would definately run me off. ;) (after I've sold off all my GS shit though)

So make a new TOS. A simple one that states something like you can either state your disagreements in an educated adult manner, or your post will be pulled, and you can be possibly locked out of the PC.
I *think* as long as people can still vent and they can still call Bullshit that this would be an applauded change.
This might also force some people to stop posting here, but then who needs the guy or gal that says something like; "You're just a douche bag fuck that doesn't know crap about grammar ... ... ..." Heck, a change like this might even force individuals to think before they post and use their heads.
Just a thought.

No current moderator on this forum treats each poster here the exact same way. This shouldn't be expected of a moderator let alone a regular poster anyway.
I could agree with you saying treat each post objectively, even ones you may disagree with, regardless of your personal feelings on the matter. Then again, even that's a stretch. Moderating with fairness is good enough for me.

Basically we don't about anyone else here, so why do they get protection?

Definitely a double standard going on. You may not like random insults directed at your friends, but "your friends" shouldn't be receiving special treatment.
A mod should never threaten to delete posts because "they like the person you are talking about".
I just find it odd that Kranar posted that some posts would be deleted because they were inappropriate, when I could post the same content about other posters on this board and have no problems.
I've never had a post pulled or edited on these boards, so I like them and appreciate them being here, I just don't like certain people receiving special treatment.

I'd also have to agree with Davenshire, on one point. My first few days here, I saw some real asshats making posts.
Maybe if everyone here acted a little more grown up, less moderation would be required. Like using a picture of some other poster as an avatar...it's really childish. I think Parkbandit is douchebag in the politics folder...but I haven't had a problem with him outside that arena so far. Aside from politics, he seems pretty normal.

The topic isn't your stellar run as a Super Mod and then a Mod, but rather Ilvane's so you can just PM me if you want to continue the discussion.
Take a jab, get a broken nose ... run and say it's not the fight you wanted to pick. Hold your breath for that PM.
You're damned right it's pretty laughable. My side hurts it's so funny. You whine more than Illvane and Al Gore combined.
This deserved quotations. Tell you what troll boy ... go back and count how many threads I started with the sole purpose to bitch about moderation or moderators ... and compare that to yours.
I've got a pacifier for you when you're done crybaby.
So to sum it up: Everytime in the PC's history that one of these uproars in opinion on a douche mod have come up.. it's resulted in a better change. (yours included).
Yet for all the bitching coming from douches like you ... not one person has been removed or demoted over it. In fact, there has been little to no change done at the behest of crybabies and trolls. Plenty of change due to them however.
This time however since Illvane really has no authority over any real folder I doubt there will be any change. Hopefully she'll stop dropping stupid threats to delete or punish in other mod's folders because she's butt hurt over her "friends" getting called out.
Join Mist in holding your breath ... I'll be laughing.
You need to go back and consider my words more carefully, since you're only reading into them what you want to see.
That's about all I'm going to quote ... simply because you need to take your own advice. I'll even make it easier for you.
I had tears in my eyes and I thought you hurt my feelings ... then I realized I was laughing so hard at the absurdity of Ganalon.
Get over yourself. You're not changing anything, you're not ushering in change, your not championing change ... you're taking douche lessons from Sean2. About the only two things you have accomplished is getting a nomination for the crybaby of the month award and proved to everyone what a little skinned knee bitch you are.
Pretty soon you'll be throwing around words like "most" and "majority" coupled with "us" ... even when there are less than 15 of you out 500 people in the last month.

Take your rittalin and have some patience. To what extent, well, we'll just have to wait and see.
PS. For an example, I'll point you to how active Harmnone is after the poll and threads were made about her idiocy.
Oh, and funny you call people out on school yard tactics and in the same breath calling people douches, losers and other colloquial pseudonyms.

Out of sheer, morbid curiousity, and just having seen a very select few individuals actually having beef with Ilvane: How did fourty votes get cast? I don't remember a fraction of that many people having any serious "issues" with her
And to be less condescending, who, exactly, was the retarded, learning-impaired, stupid-ass, dipshittily unintelligent tard-face who spent effort making 40 multiple accounts for a fucking poll thread?
While there's no doubt that there are some duplicity on both sides of the voting. My main goal of making the poll private was to draw out those who would not have normally voted simply because they wished to remain anonomyous.
With that consideration in place, I wonder if moderators or administrators have access to the actual poll participation. This is territory I'm unfamiliar with in my experience with this format of forums.

It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure that mods and admins have access to the poll information.
Regardless, these polls don't really accomplish anything. I don't have THAT much angst against Ilvane to cause this kind of stir. She irritates me sure  but she's not doing anything wrong as far as moderating goes.
The boards will never make everyone happy. Some want more moderation to occur, others want less, some want consistency, some don't care. I like the boards regardless of its hangups and only loss of interest in the topics will cause me to leave, not who is in charge of what and who can do what to my posts.

It's been stated multiple times, and once already in this thraed that he did not get removed as a super mod, he had the option to stay, he opted not to.

Kranar has already stated in this thread that these threads do nothing to change anything, other then making said person being hunted feel bad and normally un-volunteer for the mod position. He clearly stated he's never been swayed to make any changes by these type of threads.
PS. For an example, I'll point you to how active Harmnone is after the poll and threads were made about her idiocy.
This is you being dumb. You know nothing and just assume. Currently Harmnone is dealing with some family health issues.

Proof? Yah, that'd make a difference. You don't believe anyone's statements about the subject, even when they had MORE access to the information then you did. There is no *proof* you'd accept. As such the argument is moot. I was simply stating the facts. You're willingness to accept them are not my problem.
You have the primary person involved telling you what happened. You have someone else who was "there" during the time frame confirming what happened, and you have your opinion. It's clear you only really care about one of those.
Of a folder existing to discuss the actions of members, there is no doubt as to its existance.
What Trinitis is referencing, and what I'm calling him/her on is the availability of the terms that Kranar offered Tsa'ah as a consequence for the deletion of the member's posts. Like any matter involving someone in authority modifying behavioral actions, its usually done privately. Somehow I dont see Kranar diverging from this manner on this specific issue. I could be wrong, but the evidence presented thus far doesnt give me a different impression.

You are correct in the statement that Kranar prefers to do such matters in private. But as I said what, four times now? The Mods DO COMMUNICATE. There are mods that are friends with each other. There are mods that don't always see eye to eye. But they do communicate with each other.

Unless you're willing to offer up proof, dont be so quick to call it 'fact'. Still waiting...
Edited to add a few thoughts on this line...
1. Have you ever lied to a friend? Have a friend lie to you?
2. Exactly how would you define an internet friend when it comes to issues of honesty, integrity, etc.
3. In court, when someone attempts to testify as to what someone else was told, its called hearsay. Granted that the PC is not a court of law, I'll just call it hearsay as a nice way of saying 'bullshit'.

Actually no, I dont think Tsa'ah was 'hammered down'. I do think that the results of the complaints/threads posted about him resulted in a modification of his moderation ability/behavior. Thats proven. Which was the focus of why someone brought Tsa'ah's issue up in this thread. Since I dont converse with Tsa'ah, I'm in no position to say what he's said privately to his internet 'friends'. However I am pointing out that lacking direct proof otherwise, specific information relating to his issue was not made public (link to thread plz) nor was it semi-publicly discussed in the moderator folder (because Kranar doesnt roll like that IMO), a reasonable person (Latrin will get me on that) is led to believe there was a distinct cause/effect to a bad moderating style and the existence of threads/posts/polls pointing it out.
And yes, he did have a choice, but both choices resulted in corrective action brought forth by a complaint/issue from a poster/member. Yet you seem to fail to grasp what you're basing your argument on. Please try and focus.
Also note I added a few thoughts onto my previous post. I think you'll find them to your liking.

You also seem to think that Tsa'ah was "demoted" due to the thread. Which is indeed false. It was done due to his deleting of mass postings due to his anger over that entire fiasco. It had nothing to do with his previous moderation of the forums.
So in the end, Yes, in some twisted, moronic way you're threads of bitching and crying do cause change. But nothing via Kranar. It's all by the choice of the person you're bitching and crying about.

His alteration in status was the effect caused by his actions as a moderator. Pure and simple cause and effect. Whats debatable is how much influence the threads made complaining about his actions had on his decision to delete said posts.

He deleted a load of Psykos' posts.
Psykos complained.
Kranar responded.
I seem to recall, correct me if I'm wrong (as if someone wouldnt do that), but Tsa'ah was given the choice of resign as a mod completely, or take a demotion.
Hence, if Psykos didnt complain, no action wouldnt have been forthcoming, therefore a member of this forum had some influence of the events that occurred.

Especially when she allows it 24/7 IN her folders without a mention.
I'm literally going to flip a coin to vote because I just want to see the list of people.
One of those "fuck no" votes is mine, you can disregard it.
I still voted based on my coin flip, so private or not, that shit's bound to happen.
Did you flip twice?

Something that is not invasive. Now of course these rules are subject to the person reading them, but it's my understanding it would only be viewed as invasive if I gave names, dates, specifics, etc.

I'll bite since you have displayed an absolute inability to comprehend what a few members have stated.
Unless Tsa'ah told you directly, I highly doubt that the details of the actions between Kranar and Tsa'ah were divulged by Kranar. Especially since this would be considered a private matter between the admin and the behavior/consequence of a mod's actions.
There's nothing more to it, a few people have given you enough of the facts, you just refuse to accept it.
Every mod at that time knew exactly why I was demoted. Any current mod can go into the mod folder and pretty much verify what others have said .. unless it has been deleted ... which I doubt.
My demotion did not occur due to the complaints of a very small percentage of members. My demotion did not happen over threads, like this, made by the same small percentage of members. My demotion did not occur over a, or any, poll created by the same small percentage of members.
My demotion was the direct result of options given to my by Kranar over the focused and singular abuse of moderator abilities ... meaning deleting Lycain's posts from the first to last after warning him and giving him time to remove the altered picture of myself he was using as his avatar.
I did it, and stated as much prior to deleting, with the knowledge that I would likely be removed as a staff member.
So ... as a former mod has stated, and even Bob (which you have conveniently ignored) my demotion was the result of my abuse of station, not the complaints and outcry of the member base. What I did was very public and I made absolutely no attempt to hide it. Kranar knows, or should, that I have absolutely no problem with him divulging the details of that conversation.
Man up and ask him instead of waiting for something you know won't happen.
Now is your opportunity to disprove statements made over my demotion and continue to prove to the community at large that you're a tard with a vocabulary.
So for the second time, I'm done with you ... get your last word in.

If this would fit in my sig, it would be in there. It pretty much sums things up for about the 30% of the posters that've run so many others off, and are proud of it to boot. I'm not commenting on this situation in particular because when it was happening I wasn't here, and I don't know what sparked this thread in the first place. I'm just speaking in generalities. There's been a HUGE change in the PC between when I last was here and when I came back, and Kranar's post here hits the nail right on the head.

Just read through the thread again. There are two or three spots referencing running other people off, but most of it's about HarmNone specifically. The people that took credit for doing it seemed damn proud of it.
Edited to add:
I'd say that the greater percentage of people who posted and then stopped posting didn't have their exit so public, also. I know at least three people who posted here for a while, then just stopped because there was just so much random hate and flaming. I bet if you sifted through every post here you'd find about a 1:1 ratio of flaming to on topic discussion.
Edited again to add:
And yeah, I wanted to do some research into it because if I do anything without linking sources and having a works cited at the bottom of my post, it gets immediately discredited. If you like I can give you a few examples of this where I was bitched at and discredited then had to link sources later.

People claim to be the source of why people leave the boards. Other than ONE person I know of that left because she was targetted, for the most part, people just leave because they get tired, bored or fed up with the PC for a variety of reasons.

While this may be true, this isn't unique to our forums. The PC may be hostile and bitchy most of the time, however the reactions and rebuttals are quite tame compared to scores of public forums out there. This one just happens to have a dedicated set of posters at any given time.

Right, people step down for several reasons, and some people immediately assume that they were run off when most people don't know the reason they left. Sometimes there is no reason. Sometimes you just move on.
And yet...

There's always the possibility of overmoderating, of course. I was here for a good while when HN was a moderator, but didn't see her pull or stop too much that wasn't really out of line. That's not to say she didn't do that when I was away though.
I'm just sort of a black and white type of person. There aren't so many grey areas. There are threads that should be completely open to whatever antics or shenanigans can and do happen, and threads that should be kept to a more low key on topic note, in my opinion.
In Talmien's thread for example, you and I both immediately started in with off topic conversation when he asked a legitimate question. To a guy with three posts total without having read here before that could immediately cause him to seek other sources and not look back. There was no harm in that particular thread. I was talking to him in IMs while he was posting it, which is why I knew it wouldn't be an issue. He had the problem solved hours before anybody posted an actual response. Before my response, even, which was only the third post in the thread. If it was just somebody random though I could see that being a thread in need of a little moderation.
I wouldn't imagine ever suggesting that one of your "ZOMG IT'S WEDNESDAY!!!!!!" threads needed any sort of moderation. They're fun as they are and shouldn't be touched.

Truth is.. no one knows why Harmnone left. Do you really believe that she would post "Well, I'm leaving these forums because people think I'm the worst moderator ever"?
Not likely.
