Iranians arrest 14 squirrels for spying
Dudi Cohen Published: 07.13.07, 23:43 / Israel News
Iranian intelligence operatives recently detained over a dozen squirrels found within the nation's borders, claiming the rodents were serving as spies for Western powers determined to undermine the Islamic Republic.
"In recent weeks, intelligence operatives have arrested 14 squirrels within Iran's borders," state-sponsored news agency IRNA reported. "The squirrels were carrying spy gear of foreign agencies, and were stopped before they could act, thanks to the alertness of our intelligence services."
Iranian police commander Esmaeil Ahmadi-Moqadam confirmed the report, saying that a number of squirrels had been caught bearing foreign spy gear within Iran's borders.
"I heard of this but I have no specific knowledge on the subject," he said. He refused to give further details.
Recently, Iran has increased its efforts in combating espionage by the West. The use of rodents has not been documented in the past.

This is just too embarrasing to print. Surely the Iranian officials dont expect anyone to buy this? Especially its own populace?
 Way to get a good laugh at you from the whole world.

yeah I'm pretty sure this is a real story... Animals are perfect for use in war-time. My favorite was the bat firebombs they made... it's too bad we didn't really get to use them... what with nuking japan and all instead.

We've definitely used dolphins and squirrels for depthcharge/mines (at least this is true according to a long-winded anti-animal rant a Brig. Gen and another ranking official I know living close by that've informed me of such in one of their unforgettable 1,000,000,000th war sermons every time I meet with them and either or of the above begins making audible words.)
Not really sure about the "espionage" level of a fluffy rodent. We basically ditched microplanes because they couldn't carry payloads. Strange.

Why is everyone assuming it's some mystery "western" government behind this? Maybe the squirrels have been spying on us for years and are on the verge of launching their attack. Food for thought.

Although I've always been suspicious of squirrels, this is actually the result of a top-secret intelligence program. It was going fine, but then someone leaked the squirrels' identities to the press and....
