Can you get a pattern anywhere in Darkstone?

Anywhere you can think of that you cant read a pattern from?

If you can't use a gold ring in an certain area, you can't use 740.

That's mostly true, but for instance in Broken Lands - you can set a ring right after the rune reading, but you can't sense a pattern there.
