You ever get done watching a movie, and then an hour and a half later wonder:
WHAT THE MOTHERFUCK WAS IT ALL ABOUT?
I ordered "The Fountain" on PPV (an hour and a half ago) and after watching it, I am so blatantly confused its giving me a headache.
It was really, really science fiction-y (which I wasn't expecting) so maybe that's why I'm confused. Someone wanna clue me in?

I'm with you on this. I had a free premier movie ticket when it was in theatres and I was like WTF all night.

Bruce Willis's some number of monkey. I'm usually pretty good at following crazy plots but that one confounded me entirely. Haven't seen the one you're talking about though.

12 Dead Monkeys was awesome.
12 monkeys is in fact awesome and The Fountain was actually pretty good too. You just have to like a non linear movie and pick which story you think is the real story. Theres a lot of pretty cool discussion on the IMDB bulletin boards about The Fountain if your confused by it.

Was it 12 Dead Monkeys or just 12 Monkeys?
That was another one that I had to watch three fucking times to figure out wtf it was about.
I don't think I'm up to watching The Fountain another two though.

Oh it was 12 Monkeys. No clue why I was thinking dead monkeys.

I thought The Fountain was a good movie, but watching it in the theatre I got lost real quick and figured I had missed something.

I like challenging movies but dislike movies that are just poorly made and confusing. Last challenging movie i saw was Pan's Labrynth. It was pretty good. Anyone else see that?
Fair enough. I didn't see it in theatres but I could easily see why that would happen. It's one of those movie you have to know what you're getting into and be in the mindset to watch it.
But did you really expect someone not fucked up for the guy who wrote/directed requeim for a dream and Pi? Pi is def. one of my WTF movies.

I really liked Pan's. But it was a movie that turned out to suprise me and not at all be what I expected it to be (although I suppose in a good way.) But it's also a horrible 1st date movie.

Yeah that is a pretty bad first date movie, much like Apocolypto would be. I hate Mel Gibson but that movie rocked.

Perfume was an excellent non-Hollywood "roll-em out" style film. Pan's Labrynth was enjoyable too.
Unfortunately if you like things which are predictable, recycled and boring, the majority of Hollywood releases will be for you. If you like things a little more raw, experimental, interesting or just good, you have to look farther afield. That's not to say Hollywood has nothing to offer at all, of course. However remember Hollywood is in the buisness of making money first, and making creative, artistic and compelling statements second.

Holy hell, I think thats the only positive thing you’ve written (said) all year...
Loved 12 Monkeys. Gilliam’s golden era FTW. I liked Del Torro’s Pan but not as much. If you want a mindfuck watch Memento.
I’ll have to check out The Fountain. Thanks for the tip.

Memento was really good, but you could never sit down and enjoy it on the same level again.

12 monkeys was fantastic. I didn't have trouble following that movie at all. I guess you have to like the idea of time travel though.

The Fountain's awesome, but it takes a little work. It's worth watching for the visuals alone, imo.

I really liked Pan's Labrynth too. The trailers seemed misleading though. That eyeball hand guy had like a freaking 3 minute part. It almost felt like two movies that got kicked into the same slot.

The Fountain was weird but visually very awesome. Pan's Labrynth was WTF AWESOME, I didn't know when I rented it that it was really for grownups and the pale man scared the shit out of me.
One movie that annoyed the hell out of me was The Ninth Gate. It wasn't so much confusing as I felt it left things unfinished. Spell it out for me. What exactly IS the Ninth Gate, do you get to go to hell or something? Was the girl the devil, or just one of his minions? Same with Cube. TELL US MORE, don't just show the retarded guy walking into the light and then be like CREDITS.

So give the jist of what I just watched. Did he use the formula that they discovered on the monkey to keep him alive? I assume he planted the seed which in turn turned into his wife, and thousands of years into the future put himself in that bubble towards the nebula.
WTF was up with the Queen of Spain, the Conquestador (I'm sure I spelled that wrong) and why did he turn into the plant?

Primer.
One reviewer claimed that "Anybody who claims they fully understand what's going on in Primer after seeing it just once is either a savant or a liar."
Incredible film and requires some real thought. Totaly intruiging and I advise anyone who likes to be completely confused to watch it.
Was all done for a few thousand dollars too but was very well acclaimed. Check it out.
Theres a lot of debate but the 2 camps seem to be this:
A.) The past (1500) is Izzy's story (this is common to both camps) the present (2000) is a flashback from Tom in the future which is where the movie actually takes place (2500). The flashbacks are regrets that Tom has and it ends with him finally coming to terms with death as being inevitable.
B.) The past (1500) is Izzy's story the present (2000) is actually the present and the (2500) story is Toms ending to Izzys unfinished book, ending at Xibalta (or however it's spelled) as she indicated thats where the story would end on the rooftop.
Watch the movie again and give your interpretation.

I'm surprised the king of all "What the heck just happened for the past 2 hours?" movies hasn't been mentioned yet in this thread.
That title goes to one and only one film: Mulholland Drive (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/mulholland_dr/).
And it is a damn incredible 'experience' of a film unlike any other.

Love that movie and Lynch’s work in general. Good call. Any of his movies fall in that category. Lost Highway?

To be honest, I'm very confused as to what to make of David Lynch. In fact I find a lot of his work to be absolutely terrible and just some of the worst film making period, while some of his other works are just genious.
I try to watch all of his works in hopes that it will be another masterpiece but more often than not I must say I end up really disappointed. Mulholland Drive is an example of a true masterpiece along with a more recent film he made called Inland Empire (in many ways it is a sequel to Mulholland Drive). I can't say I liked Lost Highway, and Twin Peaks the movie was a disaster, in many ways the show became a disaster as well after the first season.
If you like David Lynch and want to be scared for a week minimum... check out a series of short films he made called Rabbits (http://imdb.com/title/tt0347840/).
Basically Rabbits plays out like your cheesy 80s-90s sitcom where the camera sits infront of a living room and you have your cliche family whose entire life basically revolves around the living room. Except that everyone in this film is dressed up in a rabbit suit. There is a laugh track in the film but the laughter comes at the most inappropriate moments and begins to really creep you out. And quite frankly the thing that creeped me the most is that from time to time a very loud knocking sound comes from door, but when the "daddy" rabbit goes to open it... no one is there. Each time you hear this knocking sound it gets more and more intense building up the suspense as to what the hell is going on. Anyhow, if you want something scary, screw all the gorefests and cheezy teenagers walking into a basement type movies... this movie will scare the crap out of you despite not having any blood, guts or violence...
Pink Floyd's The Wall is another one of those WTF kinda movies unless you're really into the lyrics/story.

I was in high school. Didn't really have too much trouble following it. The guy's away on a music tour and he finds out his wife is cheating on him. The rest of the movie is his decent into madness and depression before finally "shaking it off."

See, I liked Lost Highway. I think it might be my favorite Lynch film and I definitely enjoyed it more than Mulholland Drive, but I agree that the Twin Peaks movie was awful. I watched the TV show when it was on TV and was always glued to the TV so I don't think it really fell apart after the first season. Of course, I was like 10 years old at the time and Bob scared the fuck out of me.

ditto that, i hate that scene...not quite as disturbing as some of the stuff from say Dead Alive, but with one liners like "I kick ass for the lord"...it's a winner.

I thought Kids of Dudes was the best movie this year. Wide release Jan 7, IIRC; although, I think the limited release was in Dec. Regardless, the best movie I've seen within a year.
Hot Fuzz was spectacular though.

Wide release? Never heard of it...and I was working in a movie theater (with an independent branch) at that point.
