I was originally told that you gain more of a CS bonus from your main spell circle than from 2nd or 3rd, so when my sorc was rebuilt at level 14 this is what i was given, is the overtraining in sorc spells worth the CS push or no?

I don't know the cutoffs anymore, but you get more CS training in minor circles than all main.

CS = (level x 3) + primary spell circle bonus + secondary spell circle 1 + secondary spell circle 2 + stat bonus

-----------------------------
Primary spell circle bonus: (round normally)
Ranks up to level: 1CS/rank
Ranks 1-20 above level: .75CS/rank
Ranks 21-60 above level: .5CS/rank
Ranks 61-100 above level: .25CS/rank
Ranks 101 -? above level: .125CS/rank

-----------------------------
Secondary circle bonuses:
Ranks up to 2/3 level: .33333CS/rank (round up)
Ranks above 2/3 level: .1CS/rank

-----------------------------
Stat bonus:
AU for elemental casters
WI for spiritual casters
(AU+WI)/2 for sorcerers (round up)

If you want a higher sorcerer CS, what you have is fairly accurate.

What bob said doesnt come into play until later. For anyone under 30-40 trains, max the sphere you use to hunt with.

Cut off points to stop overtraining in your primary circle would be 20 ranks above your level, or 60 ranks above your level.

Just make sure as you get older you get some of your defensive spells in the other two circles. And get 425 as soon as you can. Having 425 and the additional CS from that 400s sphere, will boost your sorcerer CS more than the 25 'extra' ranks would do for you in the sorcerer sphere. At least if you already have some overtraining in the sorcerer sphere.

This is a sorcerer I started like 6 years ago. As you can see I don't play much. Hes rolled for stat growth. He has right at 8 magical ranks for runestaff DS. He has his sorcerer spells overtrained by 20 ranks to get extra CS. If he ever trains some more he will be doubling minor elemental to get 414/425, and singling 700s, to keep it 20 above level. Stop at 425, and continue 100's to get 120. Once he has 425, and 120, I would go for 60 ranks above level in sorcerer sphere. Once you get 60 ranks above level, or possibly before depending on your CS and DS needs you should get 2/3s your level in the 100s and 400s, and then all the extra in 700s.

You should always aim for 5 CS per level or more, in my opinion.

This guys CS is 95, or 6.33 CS per level

This is one I made about 3-4 years ago?, wasnt too long before the GS4 conversion. I wound up screwing up his stats playing around during the conversion. Decided I didnt like it and quit. Came back and was stuck with crappy stats on this guy and my rogue. Oh well.

I have this guy geared more towards a mix of DS and CS, since I hunt him in offensive. I use 718 and like to take advantage of the TD push down the stance gives me without dancing in between guarded and offensive. He currently has enough DS and CS to hunt in offensive against creatures 3-4 levels higher than him. He does very well.

His CS is 204 or about 5.8 CS per level.

Your guy around 14 or something? You need to try and get your magic ranks up to 8 per level so you can get adequate DS.

Actually, for a sorc for lower than 2/3rds your level in MnE it's actually more CS per training than sorc circle over 20 per level...

21-60 over level for sorc = 0.5CS per training
2/3rds level with 425 = 0.333 + 0.1875 (425) = 0.52083 CS per training...

It's not much of a difference but you're talking about "Max" CS, and the extra ranks of MnE will have other benefits (DS in 430) that you won't get with Sorc (because overlevel in sorc doesn't add to CoS DS)

it's amazing to me how many sorcerers give up the advantages of all wizard wands... 708 focused, 710 focused, 720 focused, 111 altogether, and 118 (bolt with summoning lore) for more CS or DS by totally cutting out spell aiming...
Maybe it's just me, but I like having the all those extra weapons and the ability to kill things 30 trains over me with the most powerful non-warding spell in the game... not to mention imbeddable cone of lightning rods...
It's wonderful to be able to show up a wizard with his own spells, and then implode stuff at will
One thing you have right though, either stay fully maxed in spellaiming, or don't touch it at all...
If all you want is CS, you are missing out on so much more... The real trick is to balance everything perfectly so you can have a max CS and be able to use your spells for what they are made to do

Oh, and training for runestaff defense is overrated...

I used to train in spell aiming. But CS spells are more effective atm for me as far as what I hunt. Especially considering I make one cast and the thing dies. Bolt spells have always taken 4+ hits for me before something dies.

I am not telling anyone not to train in it.. but I don't place any value in it for myself right now. The only reason I even kept it up 2x before was for 710 and 720 viability, and I figured out overtraining in sorc sphere helps as much or more than the spell aiming.

Plus wands suck as far as a hunting style. They are costly if you buy them, and costly if you don't sell them as loot. I make a ton of coin off selling the things to the pawn. I don't like carrying them etc. They hamper me more then they help.
