Alright, here it goes.
I am in the military and currently deployed to Iraq. I used to completely addicted to the game in the mid-late 90's and just recently got back into the game late last year and early this year before i deployed. I have a rogue in his mid 30's but I'm not sure what I want to do. I am considering either blowing a bunch of cash to get incredibly gear for this character to wear and use, or i have also considered getting either a capped or near capped rogue or maybe sorceror and then just get some decent gear and eventually attain better gear. I'm just wondering what some of you all think, because i have spent a decent amount of time reading all of these threads and i can tell that most of you have some serious characters and experience in this game.

Thanks for all the help

You'll probably be more attached to a character you grind up on your own. Buying someone else's stuff means having to put up with whatever flaky past they generated.

There's a small ton of pretty fancy gear for sale right now. Just shop around, be careful who you deal with (there's some con artists about who'll rape you for every red cent they can).

If I were in your shoes. I would look for a near capped magical character as a utility to support your rogue and keep training him up.

Find a near capped sorc, wizard, cleric, or empath.

Or if you just want to shortcut everything in order to just make mad loot no matter anything else, buy a capped rogue and grind end game areas.

Scam?

Risky at best unless you want to get paid by money order and wait. Paypal and APO's = bad business.

how would this be so risky or a scam? and how do people commonly get burned on these deals?

Just do a search on Zimzum to start out

People prefer doing business with people with a solid reputation. Having single digit posts and spending "big bucks" on virtual gear sends up some red flags.

There's some exploitable loopholes with Paypal. Experienced sellers would probably take some precautions to alleviate concerns with new buyers.
