I don't feel like Googling more than the 1.5 seconds I already have.

I have a 4 port router with every port filled, but I want to be able to connect a second computer in my room to the network on occasion (ie., someone coming over for some LAN/WoW action). I'm looking for the cheapest solution possible, preferably available at some major retailer so I can just go out and grab one, and I'm hoping that:

1) Cat5 splitters exist
2) It will work if I split the connection to my PC and subsequently connect two different PCs to the splitter.

Go!

The cheapest route would be just unplugging the one device you aren't using when a friend comes over, followed by getting a wired/wireless router, IMO.

Unplugging isn't a feasible option. Every computer is in a separate room among two different floors, so only one cable is coming in here and I need to have 2 connections.

And it's definitely less expensive to not replace everyone's NIC with a wireless receiver along with a wireless router. That would be the most expensive route, to the tune of over $100. I can just as easily connect a switch to the router, but I want the least hassle and cost combination.

Winnar!

I had an old hub downstairs.

Yar hub was the way to go, splitting it your still using the same router port so then you run into BS issues which I'm not entirely sure if newer windows make up for them or not. But you can usually pick up a 4 port hub for dirt cheap anymore if you hadn't found one covered in dust.
