Thought it would be interesting to see everyone’s car histories. I’m big on naming my cars. Generally curious what other people have driven overall.

Heres mine...

76 Deep Orange Toyota Corolla: No name.

Blew the tranny.

First car hand me down. Great gas millage.

65 Aquamarine (serious) Dodge Dart: Trixie.

Totalled in an accident. :( She saved my life.

Paid $300 for this mint condition antique. The slant six in this machine could not be abused enough to kill it. It had this great shimmy in idle that would shake the tits of any chick who sat up front. Too many good stories about this one.

79 Light Blue Buick LeSabre: The Leaping Son of Jesus.

Sold to a kid who wanted to chop it and cruise. lol

I bought this tank used from a dealership for $1k. It got 10 mpg. Power steering made it feel like a yacht! Bench seats front and back for 6 easy. Could hold eight. Replaced the transmission and various GM parts myself.

82 Silver Toyota Cellica: The Silver Frog.

Donated to charity.

Bought it from a french couple. Spilled water in the front passenger floorboards and discovered someone had ralphed in it at some point. 5 speed stick. Fucking thing got 40 mpg. Drove it from LA to NY.

04 Charcoal Mazda6: Sixy.

Traded her up when I moved to the city. I would hate to have seen a mark on her.

First NEW car I ever bought. This panther is a driving machine. Claws in the road on corners. Had a wide turn radius. 26 mpg surprisingly. Leather seats. Bose sound. She was teh hawt.

06 Frost Blue Suzuki Aerio: Baby Jumbo.

Current ride.

AWD, narrow and short but very tall. Great urban bulldog. Only 26 mpg for such a small modern car though. Turns on a dime and can fit into half a parking space.

---------------------------------------------------

Thats not a complete list by any means. But those were the most notable. I didn’t include the ancient Oldsmobile I bought from a preacher for $500 that broke down and got towed to never be seen or heard from again, for example.

The first motorized vehicle I owned as a Honda moped. Bright fire-engine yellow. I let my best friend (at the time) drive one day in Boston, with me as a passenger, and he rode us down the wrong way on a 1-way street without stopping. Major big car accident, obviously - he died 2 days later of massive internal injuries and a cracked neck. I was in the hospital for 2 weeks with multiple fractures and an emballism. The moped was compltely destroyed.

The next vehicle I owned was a 1973 Volkswagon Microbus, orange and white, no "Wesphalia top." But it did have curtains on the back screen windows :) I called it all kinds of things, mostly "Fucker" and "Dickweed" and other assorted unmentionables. It had a 4-cyl Porche engine, rear, aircooled, running on only 3 cyls because one of the pistons was shot. The compression was so bad I couldn't make it up the hill to the Tunnel in New Haven's Amity area, without shifting to 1st gear halfway up. There was a leak somewhere so the oil tank smelled like gasoline. The heater box was broken, it had AM radio, no FM, and I installed a CB radio just to keep me from going insane.

The repair guy told me I'd never make it out of Massachusettes with the thing where I bought it. I ended up taking it to P-town, then to Canada, then back home to Connecticut, then back to Canada, and back home again, all in a single summer after I graduated college. I kept it another 4 months before buying my first of three VW Rabbits. Loved rabbits but each one after the first was less satisfying than the one before. Then I got...

Subaru station wagon. Worked great, reliable, not too expensive to repair, did what I needed it to do, and could hold a ridiculous amount of shit in the back plus a full-sized futon on top. The baja bar in the front was kinda fun too; used it more than a few times helping other people get unstuck from the snowbanks during storms. After that, I got...

A Hyundai. Biggest piece of shit I ever owned, hated every minute of the 5 years I owned it. I was more stubborn than it was, though, so I kept it anyway. Until I opened the hatchback one day and learned that moldy mildewed moss had grown over all the crap I kept tossing back there.

Then - two Ford Explorers. Both Sports. First one was awesome, loved all 10 years of owning it. But it was starting to wear down and I sold it to a guy at work for $600 and he took it for a drive the next day and totalled it. The second one I bought before selling the first, had it for 2 years, hated it, it was a lemon and I was stupid for buying it and being a sucker.

Traded it in for my Jag, which I've had for a couple months now and still love it to death. It's name is the very uncreative Kitty.

Backlash, how is your 5th car named Sixy?

I have owned one (1) car: a 2002 Saturn SL2. 65k miles on plastic and I'm taking it out to St. Louis this summer, I'm excited!

My first car, when I was 16, was a 94 Ford Tempo in the awful sea green color they had. I (and my friends) called it the Lean, Mean, Green Machine...

since then I've owned two Saturns...and being able to drive from Buffalo to Boston (420 miles) on 12.5 gallons.....fine enough by me.

Somehow I missed the part that read "Notable".

In that case, that leaves me with the Jeep, the Firebird, and the Pacifica.

Note: I also had a Pinto wagon, an Escort, and a Tempo, and I am still sure they have been more, but 22 years of driving and lots of car deals means lots of cars.

My very first car was a:
1993 white corvette LT1- traded for 97 gmc truck

1997 black GMC sportside 4x4, lifted w/ 33 inch tires - had a very nice stance, not a bigger than it should be truck just to be bigger than the next guy. This got totaled, and I used the extra money as a downpayment on the 95 vette

1995 red corvette LT1 - currently paid off, and I am fixing the front end after that fiasco with the 17 yr old girl that pulled out in front of me and stopped in the middle of the street. Soon to be sold or turned into scrap metal/fiberglass/plastic - perhaps left at the bottom of a pond?

Hoping to replace it with another vette. A newer one, or a 95 ZR1.

I doubt I will ever own another 'car' beyond a corvette. I may get a pickup truck for hauling stuff. Or perhaps a suburban/Tahoe for family needs. Can't stand other cars after having driven a sports car. Everything else I get in just feels wrong.

Those are the only three cars I have owned so far, and this latest one is the only one I actually got the title to. The first two I only owned for about two years a piece. This one is going just a little over two years now.

93 Nissan Pathfinder - totalled

00 Chevy Tracker - We call it "The Rollerskate". 2-door convertible version. 4-wheel drive. Gets great gas milage and off roads pretty good for a chickmobile. Love that thing.

I'm currently waiting ever-so-patiently for the new Camaros to come out so I can get rid of The Rollerskate and get one.

1.93 ford tempo

2.90 ford tempo : stepped back and gave my brother since he had to travel to RI for college and the 93 only had like 20k mi on it.

3.05 honda accord LX coupe - I loved this car but totaled it and used the money i got for it as a down payment for 4.

4.03 fresco green VW Passat GLS 1.8T. I love it but I didn't do the math since I was in a rush to get something post total. I got it with 40k on it but I drive 16k/yr so 80k mi over the finance + 40k original I wont own the car until it's at 120k following scheduled payments so I'll be looking to trade out of it when the balance owed is = trade in value.

I've only ever had two cars. I've driven only 6 cars in my life, including these two.

1999 Mitsubishi Mirage DE Coupe, burgundy, 2-door
My very first car. I bought in 2001. I sold it to my ex's ex-wife who smashed it days later. This car was very basic. It didn't have a cd player or power anything but it got me around town. The nice aspects of it were that I could park it anywhere because it was so small and it had decent gas mileage.

Current car:
2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser, Inferno Red
Name: Betsy
I love my car. Most people I know hate it and think it's ugly. I like it because it's weird looking and looks a bit like a frog. It doesn't have the generic Toyota/Honda look. 2 more payments and it's paid off.

PT Cruisers are uncommon around here. There is a Toyota plant in a nearby city and many people drive those - Corollas in particular I rarely see them in red, though. When I first got it, other PT Cruiser owners would honk and wave. It was weird - like I had somehow joined this club.

started with an '89 Ford tempo that was reliable as fuck

traded it in for a '93 ford tempo. I was working a theme. Had that car for 5 or 6 years also super reliable till I traded it in.

99 Ford Ranger. I still drive this truck. I don't think the thing has ever broken down.

02 Monte Carlo. Current car I really like the extra size and the V6 (my 1st V6) I'll probably have this car for 5 more years if it will last.

hmm 32 years old and I've owned 4 cars.

First car was a 1987 Chevy Sprint hatchback, manual transmission, 1.8L V3 engine. Took out a parking meter 3 weeks into owning it. Cost more to replace the parking meter than the car had cost me. Fixed it, put about 2 quarts of oil a week into it. Locked my keys in it only to find out that "locking" the doors had little to no effect on whether or not the door would actually open.

Then, a used 1989 Cavalier. My baby. I put 80k miles on it in the 2 1/2 years I owned it. 2.2 engine, manual transmission, no a/c (but vents under the dash!), no power anything.

Had a couple other cars, currently driving a 2005 Malibu Maxx which I love. Great gas mileage, TONS of space for carrying stuff, sunroof in front, moonroof in back, my first v6 engine (squealed the tires for about a week after getting her).

Oddly, I've never named any of my cars.

Also, this is a very un-impressive list considering my father is a car dealer. I think I need to call him and have a chat...

None of mine are 'notable' but here's my car history:

1981 Ford Escort L - bought used with like 90k miles, I took it to around 115k before the head gasket needed to be replaced. It was going to be more to replace that than we paid for the car so I ditched it. It was manual everything with no AC. One note is that the front wheel almost came off, the bearing or something broke and the wheel was at an angle. I was in high school and in an auto shop class at the time so I got a half-axle from a junkyard and got the motorheads to fix my car as a class project for free. I traded it in on the next car but I only got like $900 for it, heh.

1989 Ford Escort GT - My favorite car so far, it was a blast and I abused the hell out of it. I even delvered pizzas off and on for 4 years with it. Bought new and I put around 120k miles on it before the head gasket went. I had already spent a bit of money to replace the timing belt and I figured the years of delivering pizza were catching up with it so I traded it in on the next car.

1997 Ford Contour LX - My current car, bought new. I have about 72k miles on it now, which is pretty good for a 10 year-old car. The interior is still in excellent condition too. It's a V6 which is really nice compared to the 4-cyl engines in my escorts. I like the size and power but it's not as fun as my 89 Escort.

All three have been referred to as Car, The Beast, and The Antichrist (from The Gods Must be Crazy) at one point or another.

DeV

Started out with a 1991 Ford Tempo... I only paid $900 for it so I pretty much got what I paid for. It held me over for about a year and a half.

I eventually ditched it for a 1992 Sunbird convertible, drop top, cherry red, and the first car I ever loved. I rode her 'till the wheels were about ready to fall off.

Flipped her out for a 1992 Ford Explorer, most reliable automobile I've ever owned. I still miss it, but I've had my current 2001 Chrysler Sebring for about 3 years now and it's served me well.

My newest baby is a fully restored 1979 Honda CB400T Hawk II. I've never named my rides, but I will be naming this classic beauty at some point.

An 86 Subaru GL i think was my first car i owned...and i drove it until literally the wheel wouldn't turn and i even straight piped the catalytic converter for a few months after it busted. - Named Big Henry...suffice to say, i used a vacuum in my workplace called Little Henry...

Next was a Datsun of some sort, which just stopped working at some point...never got named, didn't last long.

A 2 door hatchback ford escort which also didn't last long.

Then a 92 green jeep cherokee which I had for about 8 years...great truck.

Now i have a 2001 jeep cherokee...last of it's model, limited edition...only wish I could have gotten a manual.

Though I'm trying to decide now between a Wrangler Unlimited X, the 4 door extended cab wranglers(crappy MPG), and a Mini Cooper S(really good MPG)

I've never had a NEW car, or a car with any real zip...thats why I'm leaning towards a Cooper.
