Notice the messaging on the constructs....after a head shot, and a neck shot with crit messaging...

An update to the combat system has given us more flexibility in making creatures immune to critical kills. As a part of this update, golem-like creatures have inherited this ability. In exchange for this immunity, their total hit points have been reduced by 20%.

In addition, it was discovered that disintegration criticals (from sources such as the Disintegrate (705) spell or weapon flares) were incorrectly killing non-corporeal undead, which are intended to be immune to critical kills. This is no longer possible, though these creatures will be susceptible to critical kills when Phased (704).

It was happening to me too. I reported and was like WTF? GM told me to read the announcements.

Nice springing this on us without a news item.

I'm still waiting for them to determine 'officially' what a 'golem-like' creature is and isn't...

They will EVENTUALLY be updated so that the "death" crits make sense. No ETA, but Oscuro is working on it.

If they're following a dictionary definition, it's probably:

GOLEM (Noun) - a figure artificially constructed in the form of a human being and endowed with life.

So, probably anything with golem in it's name (steel golems, mein golems, etc), the constructs, and <i>possibly</i> any of the stone beings (sents, trolls, giants, etc.).

I can understand getting your head removed, but can you get your neck removed? I just can't visiaulize that.

It may just be me, but I wouldn't think a head/neck would be needed on "golem"-type creatures for them to live... since their "life-force" is magical in nature.

I think Ignot was asking about the logistics of "removing" the neck... which would pretty much entail two cuts, or one cut so vicious and blunt force in nature that it would "remove" the entire neck.
