Its a great promotion... but plat is prohibitively expensive for this type of game.

Well, if you're premium(which the majority of accounts are), it's 10 bucks more a month. If 10 bucks makes or breaks you, you prolly shouldn't be playing games on the internet, and prolly shouldn't have the internet.
This trial even works if you're a basic account. Last year it did not. Gotta give a hand to the upsells team for trying their hardest.
Give it a try. Use my account as a reference(shameless plug).

Its not like I can’t afford it. It’s because I can get more for less.
And people wonder why GS is dying?

I haven't found anything yet that can suck my time up better than GS and be cheaper.
The bar for me is $50-100 easy. That's one night and I drink cheap beer and rum. I finally got Oblivion working for a PC, and that's draw some time in, but after a $20 patch and $30 expansion, I'll still be done with it in a month or 2.
Hell, I can't even cruise around in the car anymore due to a full tank costing me $45...
But hey, if you can find better entertainment for less, than yes, Platinum isn't for you.

I wish a full tank only cost me 45 bucks.
Buying a truck 7 years ago turned out to be a bad idea

Fucking 7 years ago it was $10 to fill the tank.
God damn I miss 97 cents a gallon.

GS is absurdly priced no matter how you frame it. Basically you're paying to suck douche nozzles. mmmmmmMMmmm.
Yeah man the $10 fill up days were great. My truck is providing a very impressive 11 mpg right now. :( Good thing the bar is only a short drive.

The price of Gemstone only sucks if you dont think playing a text game is better than graphics. I personally hate graphics games, I wont play them, I dont care how much was put into them, how cool everyone thinks they are. In Gemstone, I can see anything I want to see, I can pretty much do anything my character has a notion to do via (ACT) and the selection of verbs isn't bad either, so even though I dont WANT to pay this much for it, given the hours I've spent in GS and the friends I've made and the fun I've had, I hardly think it's horribly priced for one of my only constant sources of entertainment.
I dont play plat so use one of their names as reference :-)

Plat feels like playing a single player text based game to me. If a single player game with easily acquired great items is your bag, then go for it.
I'd play it if I didn't have to pay for the Prime portion. It feels like excessively stupid double dipping for cash.

Erm...so it appears if you sign up for the free platinum trial, you also get a free premium trial. (Which freaked me the fuck out since I went to just use my locker and got the script for a premium locker and had to make sure I didn't accidentally sign myself up for premium!)
Which is interesting since that premium festival is this month....gotta love a marketing scam, eh?

All I can say is if you are going to come for the Platinum free trial enjoy the feast before the famine because playing during PSS is not an accurate representation of the rest of the year no matter how vociferously some staff may claim otherwise.
Why do you need a Plat player's name to put on there to sign up?

An idea would be paid character transfers from Prime to Plat ... but it's 1-way.

Part of the allure of plat for a majority of people is that it wipes the slate clean... I have no idea of the current state of plat but I know(sorta) it doesn't have nearly as many capped characters per-capita than prime, and that to me was a reason I was tempted early plat... a chance at the ground floor again.
If they started a fresh prime server that ran in parallel to normal prime (prime prime? heh) but didn't allow anything transfered in, I'd start a new character there tonight and he'd be my new main right quick. (I was on one of my "breaks" when plat started... or I would have likely been there too)

So you get the double points, and so does the referral.
So for an example:

There are a few capped characters. Most seem to be rogues. We JUST got our first capped Paladin a few days ago.

Just curious since I know you watch Sopranos... Did you choose 97 cents because that's the price on the gas station sign during the intro of the show?
The Ponzzz
06-18-2007, 06:14 PM
Haha, I didn't but that's funny.
I just remember $.97 being the price. I also remember being furious when it hit $1.40. As it continued to climb past 1.50, a radio station in Syracuse, 93Q, did a special to sell gas at this one Hess for that price, $.93.

A bunch of noobs running around in Plat for 3 months seems sort of contrary to their general goals for the game.
As for a majority of the accounts being preimium, I would probably say that if this particular statistic is somewhat true (but as we all known 98% of all statistics posted in forums are incorrect - lol), it would only be because the prime account-holding populous has left for other games by now.
I, for one, cannot see spending anything more than 20 dollars a month on any game, no matter how good, addicting, or life changing it could be.
Tiered pricing sucks...
Simu pricing in general sucks... And the general # of people in game at any given time going steadily down over the last 7 years proves it.
The Ponzzz

Your use of n00bs is generally not correct. Platinum n00bs are generally established Prime players. So while they are just level 0-10 for the first week or so, they understand the game's design.
Now that's not the case most the time. We do get the returning player of 10 years, or the pre GS4 returning players.
If $20 a month is more that you are willing to spend a month, then monthly gaming is not your thing. Before MMOs I played about 2-3 RPGs a month. Sometimes More, sometimes less. Still play a good handful of single player games. But GS helps me not continuely buy PS or PC games.
And, as for statistics, it was stated on the officials that our premium numbers were higher than our basic ones. Most people who tend to be a serious GemStone player tend to go premium for locker space and merchants. I have no way of telling the facts here though.

For you primers comming to plat you are in for a treat. Plat is alot less populated then prime but that just means more
GM interaction. Khaladon is one the main GMs that likes to "harass" my cleric, but its all in good fun. Its expensive and all but for the cost of keeping me out of bars its worth it.
I have been in plat for about a year or more now and i really like it. The fact is, with such a small group of people, everyone knows you and vise versa.
come give it a try

Did you delete your original post about how they uncrossed off events that got cancelled and didn't cross out no-shows from the last merchant event?
This post is like the exact opposite of what the original said.

All I've got to say is you just have to hand it to them, it is a great marketing scheme.
Here try out best product 3 months for free and while you're at it get hooked on the premium benefits in prime. Then try and go back to your old tiny locker! Muhahahaha!!!
