Methinks Miscast might just not like me..

[Private]-Miscast: "do you enjoy the chance of getting aids you dirty hell-bound shitling?"
[Private]-Miscast: "i'm going to find your brother and tell him what a gay piece of shit you are"

I ignored these, which is my norm when I'm hunting him down. So he IMs me- my screen name being very available.

Jedite (11:53:09 AM): don't worry i'll look after your bro
PsiNet Jamus (11:53:19 AM): Lol?
PsiNet Jamus (11:53:40 AM): For one thing, my brother is nine years old.
Jedite (11:53:45 AM): you're a gay programmer?
PsiNet Jamus (11:53:46 AM): For another, he already knows.
PsiNet Jamus (11:54:00 AM): More to the point, he seems to have more sense than you, because he didn't give a shit.
Jedite (11:54:48 AM): i don't think he knows what a disappointment you must be to your broken family
[b]Jedite (11:55:16 AM): but maybe i can enlighten him
PsiNet Jamus (11:55:29 AM): You need serious help.
Jedite (11:55:38 AM): so does he
PsiNet Jamus (11:55:44 AM): Your desperation to attack me has led you to spewing nonsense.
Jedite (11:57:59 AM): you're gonna end up getting gaybashed in an open field
Jedite (11:58:14 AM): i don't need to do any attacking from here
PsiNet Jamus (11:58:32 AM): I have to ask, I've really begun to wonder,
PsiNet Jamus (11:58:44 AM): Do you actually believe what you're saying, or are you just saying it because you think it'll hurt me?
Jedite (11:59:19 AM): oh i know you're too proud for my words to hurt you before you realize the truth yourself
Jedite (11:59:54 AM): but knowing that you will eventually find that truth and realize what a fucking waste of a life you are
Jedite (11:59:59 AM): is pleasing to me

[He got arrested trying to ewave me in town.]
PsiNet Jamus (12:01:08 PM): 120 minutes. Ouch.
Jedite (12:01:53 PM): yeah i already reported your gay barnacle behavior
PsiNet Jamus (12:02:11 PM): Oh noes.
Jedite (12:02:35 PM): likely they don't care because they're likely just as fat and hairy as you
Jedite (12:02:39 PM): though not flamingly gay
Jedite (12:02:54 PM): but we'll see
PsiNet Jamus (12:03:01 PM): You think the gms are fat and hairy?
Jedite (12:03:32 PM): are they close friends of yours
PsiNet Jamus (12:03:48 PM): Not particularly, though I'm friendly with a number of them.
Jedite (12:04:27 PM): we'll see how long that friendship lasts after the stink i make
PsiNet Jamus (12:04:37 PM): right, lol
Jedite (12:05:03 PM): now go run off to the fag bar and get aids
Jedite (12:05:07 PM): again
Jedite (12:05:08 PM): hahah
PsiNet Jamus (12:05:37 PM): I'm curious as to where you made this 'stink'.
PsiNet Jamus (12:05:51 PM): Other than the obvious "everywhere I go."
Jedite (12:09:00 PM): i'm not the one with aids-ridden sperm oozing out of my fairy anus
Jedite (12:09:05 PM): you are sub-human
Jedite (12:09:11 PM): and you are afraid of people like me offline
PsiNet Jamus (12:09:24 PM): I'm not afraid of you at all. I pity you.
Jedite (12:09:25 PM): which makes it funny watching you pretend it's different online
Jedite (12:09:43 PM): i pity people who live in texas
Jedite (12:09:50 PM): and then there are the fags in texas
Jedite (12:09:54 PM): that's a whole different story
Jedite (12:10:38 PM): i'm sure i don't have to remind you how proud your poor parents are of you
Jedite (12:10:43 PM): if i was as gay as you
Jedite (12:10:46 PM): i'd wish them dead
Jedite (12:10:55 PM): so they didn't have to see what a piece of shit they spawned
Jedite signed off at 12:11:03 PM.

Miscast being a waste of space has nothing to do with Psinet. Miscast took his bullshit IN GAME and started calling Jamus names in whispers when their chars had NO previous interaction. Regardless of whether or not you like Jamus or Psinet, Miscast is a douche bag period. Jamus isn't the only one he's tried to start shit with IG. <<is there an IC channel?>>

<<There is. When I first got the program I tuned to it.>>

Chats are created spontaneously; if you tune to a channel that doesn't exist, it will be made for you. The only "real" channel as long as I used PsiNet was OOC and all other channels were the channel-specific moderator's responsibility.

No worse than the crystal amulets if you ask me... and there are channels for everything, it adhoc creates them, was there anyone else tuned to IC when you tuned to it? If so I would say that pretty much mirrors any given crystal amulet channel on non-peak times/non-events.

I think there is a way to see chats that have people in them that are public... for the very short time I used psinet I vaguely recall seeing the same list (it was short, and I don't recall seeing IC).

Celephais

The difference being amulets are ingame/inchar imo.

I'm saying if the IC channel were... "policed" to a degree to keep things in character and genre. The fact that the amulets actually exist in the game are really a matter of perception... if psinet made it so when you looked at anyone else with psinet you also so them wearing a "crystal charm", and when they "tuned" you see "soandso rubs a crystal charm." Would that sit better?

Would you consider the old (IE working) pulse timer to be OOC? It was a part of the FE not availible to everyone and wasn't actually in game command checkable.

Sean of the Thread
06-15-2007, 04:57 PM

Celephais

So you're saying that psinet OOC CHAT and all it's goodness should be considered ingame/IC?

Do you consider WHISPER OOC <target> IG? No... hence OOC chat is not IC. I'm agreeing with you about it being stupid to call OOC IG, I just think it's perfectly reasonable to accept something like the IC channel as IG.

*and on the same token any FE is ooc by your defintion?

I gave the timer explantion as showing how it'd really narrow a definition of IG to not include any sort of program you can add on to the interface. I just think you can be selective about what parts of the program are IG or not. (and the timer explantion was weak, because I recall from my formative years that saying something like "Give me 13 seconds till the pulse, then I can cast that for you" was OOC to some.)

If he's being blatently OOC and Miscast started it, why not just report him? Anyone attacking him for his OOC behavior is being as guilty as he is. If Jamus goes after him, it's no-holds barred at that point, meaning that Jamus is consenting to the attacks since he's retaliating. At least that was my understanding on how these conflicts worked.

Latrinsorm
06-15-2007, 05:19 PM
My guess would be because of the nebulousness of the border between OOC and IC. If I decide that my character hates Krolvin, by definition that can't be an IC decision because I (the player) made it. However, nobody thinks that kind of decision should be restricted from having IC ramifications, otherwise nobody could ever make a character (in the deep sense). Our characters aren't living, thinking entities, all the decision-making comes from the players.

If a player reads the play.net forums and finds out from an Ildran (for instance) post that Dhe'nar aren't hugely inclined to wed halflings and plays his or her Dhe'nar accordingly, is that a problem?

Now, I'm still of the opinion that a distinction must be retained between players and characters, but trying to take some sort of high ground on keeping OOC interference out seems awfully unsturdy to me.

I'll reiterate the point Latrinsorm is trying to make: characters cannot think for themselves, but instead act however players want them to; it's therefore difficult to call a decision made by a character "out of character" when everything is dynamically laid out by players in the first place.

Or something to that effect.

JamusPsi
06-15-2007, 10:27 PM
Firstly- Miscast called Jamus a queer, out loud, in game, and in character. Jamus as a character, therefore, is very inclined to kill him over and over again. Jamus's player happens to rather enjoy the idea as well, since Miscast has since made clear that his opinions were not only the roleplayed words of his character.

As for the IC/OOC IG/OOG conversation, and my supposed position on it, I'll refer you to a section of the psinet policy, which I feel sums it up pretty well:

3. Bringing things from OOC into the game

It is foolish and unwise to bring any conflicts from an OOC medium into the game, whether or not it is IG or OOG. That is, if it didn't involve your character, you shouldn't bring your character into it.

It is additionally against the Gemstone policy to do so.

That said, it is also fundamental cowardice to hurl insults or 'trash talk' Out-of-character, goading another player, while hiding behind the principles of role-playing to protect you. Your victim should not break the boundaries of role-playing to retaliate against you- but you shouldn't whine or complain when it predictably happened.

As to Maliku's oft-pasted quote of me-- I don't have it in front of me, but something where I say that I kill people that piss me off OOC, but separate from those I roleplay with: without context, this quote is probably misleading.

To clarify: if Zimzum and I are bullshitting on OOC and decide to randomly try to kill eachother, we will. There will be no reason for it, it is OOC behavior, and both of us are consenting to it. We would also do it away from other people so as not to involve them in our OOC interaction. Ie, I would not involve Eoghain, Xandalf, or Senja with that event, people whom I roleplay with.

If you still condemn that, fine. Frankly, I don't need the thought police judging my actions when it doesn't affect them anyway.

And lastly, it does not surprise me in the least that Sean2 saw my name on the post and decided that it was a perfect opportunity to slime me. He has a personal grudge against PsiNet, apparently, for some reason. Therefore, any time my name comes up, it must be PsiNet's, and therefore my, fault. This is, at least, how his criticism comes across to me.

The important part of roleplaying is that you get into chicks heads so that you can cyber with them.

A character being played is the character you as a person wants to roleplay, it's natural for your character to represent portions of yourself. If you feel like role playing a character who is the opposite of yourself, then that is you influencing the outcome of your characters personality.

It's impossible for a person to role play a character and take themselves fully out of the equation. It's a matter of strenght of will as to how much you can inforce the character of the persona you have created over your own desire to alter that persona. Even if you alter the persona it's not like you can't say it was within your characters inner being to want to change how they acted.

ultimately your character is controlled by you, and how much of you really shines through is up to you.

Edit: Couldn't resist after saying I was right without quoting me.

One friend of mine explained his theory on roleplaying this way: There are puppets and there are masks. Puppets are people who can separate themselves from the character and pull the strings. Masks are people who act out themselves behind the mask of the character.

I actually have had so many different opinions from each addition to this thread. Trying to figure out what motivates the post to being posted, and then posting of the rules. Its actually a pretty clever way to cover ones ass. The method. . . of the insults really are rather vulgar if you ask me, but it produced the effect he was looking for with a predictable personality. Thus the personal game between them begun.

The PSINET is an ooc channel Period. If you use it, you subject yourself to all that it offers. Don't like the crap your reading/seeing. Don't use it. After this post, I am now convinced I do not want use it. (Just when I was beginning to think I might be missing something too. Obliviously not. No offense to the creator of the program.) This to me would interfer with my ability to RP.

Personally, I truly believe that the nature of players in GS use their own extent of abilities to RP, just as they have their own extent of OOC interwoven into the game. Some can create a character separate from their own personality, and some it is a faucet of their personality and still some it is who they are without having to deal with actual faces in front of them during situations.

Sorry if this is a rushed post, but really wanted to put in a players point of view that hasn't been amongst you all for years before more gets added. Off to work I go!

I might as well give my version of events. Yeah, I called Jamus a queer in game. Only after the many times he stalked Miscast in game for killing his girlfriend Rusteek, killed Miscast on his way to another town and then after decaying stalked him back to the temple and had the nerve to bind him. I didn't know he was actually queer at the time because I didn't know this fucker, just his gay barnacle behavior. Jamus/Brian/Barnacle bitch is clearly insecure about his fagdom, which makes him vulnerable to verbal attacks from me or anyone else.

Touchy, touchy. He banned me from his lame OOC channel on PsiNet (little more than a glorified AOL chatroom) for saying shit about gay people. Now people who used to respect him on OOC have directly told me what a hypocrite he is. Furthermore he blatantly cheats the game mechanics (I'm not the first to notice) with it and cheapens the game with those fucking lameass titles he gives his PsiNet followers. Ridiculous. Though it was fun imploding him and Rusteek all those times even though they were cheating, I'm happy to be rid of the program now. Anyways yeah he's a Napoleonic douchebag and psinet is great for causing in game conflict. Which apparently he condones.

I made a post explaining my actual position on this topic. It's even in the thread. Apparently I don't condone it.

Jamus/Brian/Barnacle bitch is clearly insecure about his fagdom, which makes him vulnerable to verbal attacks from me or anyone else.

I'm comfortable in my lifestyle. I am not vulnerable to your verbal attacks- they do not hurt me in the slightest. They do, however, elicit feelings of disgust and pity- at you.

He banned me from his lame OOC channel on PsiNet (little more than a glorified AOL chatroom) for saying shit about gay people.
Bigotry has no place anywhere, least of which on my server.

And since you've been asking around about game mechanics, I'll share a little secret with you: when you wear a gold ring while invisible, it shows a message in the room you leave and the room you arrive in.

Me too, especially when you consider the concept of internalized homophobia.

I might as well give my version of events. Yeah, I called Jamus a queer in game.

That right there proves that you're a sack of shit worthy of little more than being ignored.

Only after the many times he stalked Miscast in game for killing his girlfriend Rusteek, killed Miscast on his way to another town and then after decaying stalked him back to the temple and had the nerve to bind him.

Life is harsh in a late medieval world full of magic. Warn interact works quite well when you need it.

I didn't know he was actually queer at the time because I didn't know this fucker, just his gay barnacle behavior. Jamus/Brian/Barnacle bitch is clearly insecure about his fagdom, which makes him vulnerable to verbal attacks from me or anyone else.

He isn't vulnerable. Not all of us Cher-loving friends of Dorothy quiver with fear when we read something offensive on teh internetz. Silly breeder.

Touchy, touchy. He banned me from his lame OOC channel on PsiNet (little more than a glorified AOL chatroom) for saying shit about gay people.

I would have done the same. Why would you even need to say shit about gay people? Feeling a little insecure? Do we threaten you? Does the idea of an entire group of people with a label that means "happy" make you feel less happy about yourself? Or is your prostate just bitter because it's good for little more than becoming overgrown and developing cancer later on in your life? Please excuse me while I go off and threaten the American Family by having fun.

Maybe more users will come to the same realization that they don't need a program developed by an insecure queer in Texas to enhance their enjoyment of the game.

more likely is that anyone who reads this will shake their heads in pity at you and be less-inclined to ever RP or interact with you IG. Unless they're a member of the KKK. Or a producer for the Gerry Springer Show. Then they might like you.

Class act. It's a wonder that troglodytes like you can even type.

WARNING THESE ARE REAL

he regularly slams when I've got him cornered stunned or otherwise. So I mentioned it in a friendly OOC whisper and this is what I got. I actually found myself laughing, this poor fella...

(OOC) Miscast's player whispers, "I actually went out to go grab beer for my Okinawan girlfriend and me before the sushi arrives."

(OOC) Miscast's player whispers, "What do YOU have to brag about."

(OOC) Miscast's player whispers, "I like how nerds like you who couldn't get into college resort to city work and using slamming as an insult."

I love how he assumes he knows my job? And since he doesn't like me that I must not have gone to college?

This dude is a strange bird... Oh well

At least he is good for a few good quotes I may dig for some better ones, these hardly scratch the surface...

Rustink, someone who's all over my nuts about slamming shouldn't do it himself when I quake his queer-loving ass out of hiding outside the dais. We'll just add "hypocrite" to your growing list of shortcomings.

This queef made an aim sn in my honor and gave me the rundown on his job situation himself. You work on Saturdays, bitch. You expect me to believe you went to college? Go make another sn to worship me.

I graduated from college, and I worked Saturdays, Sundays, and every major holiday for three years because I worked in the gaming industry.

That's all I have to add.

I know that this is in no way possible...but I would LOVE to do a research study on people like Miscast. Do do a RL bio on them and post it on a webpage with my findings. With links to whatever BB they post at just to see if there is an actual pattern between the lot of them.

I think you'd find they all had some serious self-esteem issues in real life, probably from being bullied in school or having overbearing mothers or something.
