Lately, I been really trying to find a local station to listen to, just to see what's out there now and, wtf...

I feel sooo fucking old when I listen to music, and exactly what I thought I'd never be. But what is this sad excuse for rock music now on every rock station? Where did this sound come from? What happened to the pride of not triple tracking?

And for rap... Mainstream rap is a joke! This shit is just about the fame, the fortune and the bitches....

Now, I'm not a fan of oldies either. I don't like music from the 50s and 60s. Hate hippies. The 80s were a mistake and we all know it, though I can put up with some hair metal if forced.

I feel like I'm always gonna be stuck in my 90s rock/metal and rap..

Anyways, I wanted to rant.

Agreed, for the most part. However, I love the 50-70's. Followed closely by the 80-90's. Anything past around 96 sucks ass. Except Beirut, I like them.

Not like it matters, but I couldn't disagree with you more on these points.

Well I just don't like the 50s and 60s. We can agree to disagree on the 80s. Heh! You either love em or hate em. I'll stick to loving my NES from the 80s. Heh!

I'm a big fan of lots of bass as well...

Dunno, I can’t stick with one time period. Yeah, I have my favs from the 50-90s, but I’m always moving forward looking for new sounds. There are some great internet radio stations that cater to just about every taste. Also, while I have not tried it yet, I hear Sirrus is even more expansive and selective.

Currently I’m on a neo-folk and cosmopolitan lounge trip.

The tall and short of it is you learn about music and find the genre you really like. Then chances are for the rest of your life you'll allways prefer that kind and not grasp the eventual progressions of each type.
You're definately right to not enjoy what you hear on the radio. Its versions of contemporary ''metal'' and ''rap'' are just usually horseshit media cash cows and have nothing to do with their musical roots in the way of sincerity and talent.

If you know where to look you'll find music made by people who've loved and were influenced by the music you've allways liked.
There are bands / artists out there who carry on the traditions set by their influences. And listening to these (once you've found them) will probably make a transition to your current tastes so you can enjoy the music of the now, inspired and written in recognition of the past greats, while not feeling you've moved away from that genre you've never been able to give up since the beginning.

Works for me anyway.

I'm a Zeppelin and NIN kind of guy. I haven't heard a new band that I like since . . . Perfect Circle I guess. And that wasn't really a 'new' band. Maybe I'm just getting old, but every band out there sounds exactly the same to me. They all suck.

Sevendust is pretty good, i've been listening to them a bit lately. I listen to just about anything that sounds good. Rap, soft ass shit, Whatever the hell Muse is, The Police, APC, Tool, Video game music, movie soundtracks...

Anything that catches your ear, listen to it and dont worry about perception/genre's

Fallen and I agree on something. Sevendust and Shinedown are prolly two of the more recent bands I've come to enjoy.

I'm also one that will listen to anything with the exception of "the beer ran away with the fridge, I drive a CHEVY and not a Ford, Dale 4EVAR" country, and opera.

Beasty Boys 4eva!

Also, check out recent festival line-ups for some current bands on any unsigned type stages or maybe even check out the big names that might be supprisingly good.
I suggest Download Festival (http://www.downloadfestival.co.uk/lineup/) so long as you ignore 2 of the main 3 acts.

There are very few bands since 2000 I have enjoyed. Yea, sevendust is on the right track, also nonpoint is another.

But I do find most of this new aged alt rock/emo to sound all alike. And so tracked it isn't even funny. I feel like it's listening to Britany Spears if she was lame rocked out.

You can find good stuff in either genre...it just usually isn't on the radio. I've found rock that's made me pretty happy lately.

Best actual new band I have heard (other than all the hardcore/punk/metal bands) has been wolfmother. They have a 70's-90's sound
