Well, what can I say. It was merely a suspicion and not even a strong one based on a few things that are detailed in the log. This happens to everyone at some point or another. Instead of guessing I just asked and tried to explain my reasoning. It never even crossed my mind what her sexual orientation might be and has nothing to do with it. Obviously she is quite female judging from her over-reaction, indignation and vindictive move in posting our conversation.

We’ve been chatting a little since we started Diplomacy a while back. Never really any serious discussions, just chit chat. In fact this log is the longest and most focused discussion we have ever had. During that time shes had some down days so I tried to lighten her mood with obviously exaggerated flirtatious statements knowing full well her policy on that. Stupid things like “hey hottie” and stuff like that. Never in all that time did she tell me off or ask me to stop because I’m pretty sure she knew just what it was: goofing around trying to get a laugh.

Have you ever known someone who was cold or quiet but you liked them and tried to tease them a bit to get them out of their shell? I’m guilty of that. I’m also flirtatious. Thats just nature at work.

I was never in on the whole "Lets bash Backlash" thing. I avoided those kinda of threads and didnt really see him in any particularly negative light. I considered him to be a open-minded, forward-thinking liberal. Wow, was I wrong.

Backlash is kind of playing it all down as a jokey-kind of thing, which, at times it possibly was, however most of the time he was doing it it clearly wasnt a joke. He wanted some kind of flirty response and on a few occasions got pissed off because he didnt get that in return. Did it bother me that he was flirting? Not especially. Did I want him to do it? No...I think the whole internet romance/cyber sex thing is creepy. However it wasnt a big issue to me.

Now, when he embarked on this drunken clusterfuck of a conversation (the conversation had been going on some time prior to the part I cut and pasted) I was pretty much laughing through. I was kind of shocked at how misogynistic he really is, and how narrow minded he also is, but I wasnt really offended. I did think about posting it at the time, but figured that would have been in poor taste and probably because he was pissed out of his skull, would have been unfair.

So I didnt. But then he logs on the next morning and starts it all up again. That's when I posted it.

Now, do I think he is a menace to women everywhere? No...just the desperate ones. But just as he is saying that he learned something (about me) I learned a lot about him. Kinda sad really when your perception of someone as a progressive, forward thinking, open-minded person is shattered as they are just the same as any other letch you might find down your local pub.

Furthermore, his justification for his arguments were completely shot to pieces.

"Women play sports to be with men" - Most sport is seperated by gender. Women play sport against other women. Men play against men. I play football in a women and girls league. While I'm sure there are some women who do use sports as a way of making friends and some male friends, I would suggest that most women play sport for reasons of fun and fitness.

"You must be a guy because you play football" - Coming from an American, where football (soccer) is played more by women than men this statement is just bizarre.

This argument has been hashed up about 1,000x on these boards. Why do we need to know about your RP trends, why do we need to know about anyones politic, etc.? But yeah, I tend to think inhibitions are a part of the self, and, in reality, alcohol is a removal of the filters which make us ourselves, and mirrors a more base (in the foundational sense, not in the "bad" sense) image of ourselves. Heidegger would argue this unfiltered self is unimportant or irrelevant since we can't be that naturally, we can only be our filtered self, but I don't know if I agree. That's why I'm happy that even when I'm drunk (or when I used to get high), I'm joyful and ecstatic instead of a raging asshole...and I never disrespected women even when drunk/high.
