It really sucks that a space shuttle launch is so unpopular that a random channel while getting ready to leave results in me finding it... CSPAN... enjoy.
If that didn't make sense I was posting quick so that anyone interested would hopefully catch the launch... basically it sucks that this isn't better advertised... these things used to be important...

Only way the general public will care is if it explodes.

... Is it wrong that I was kinda hoping it would explode so that other people would care about it, and I could say "I was watching when it happened"?

I first heard about the launch about an hour before and I was amazed that I almost missed it.
On a side note, I remember watching the one that actually did blow up a few years back.

Obviously Paris Hilton going back to jail is far more important that a space shuttle launch.

I went to this open area where we live to watch the launch (we're up in Green Cove Springs, FL - near Jacksonville). There's this area where a horse farm was sold to put in homes and all of the roads are in but no houses yet.
It was really cool cause there were no trees or anything in the way to block our view. I got some cool pics and a video of it. I always like watching the launches.

Launches are cool.. couldn't see it from Clearwater tonight as we have some clouds/rain.
If I walk over to the beach early mornings 3-5 am I can usually spot the space station in orbit which is cool as well.

SciFi channel is still more entertaining, sad but true.

SciFi may be more entertaining (<3 SG1) but the shuttle missions are always more important.

Same eerie feeling here. Caught it 3 minutes before launch on CNN. They actually had it live instead of Hilton coverage.
The entire household stood still until it dropped its boosters.

Post pics! Even if it is just a little plume in a big blue sea.

I only got a couple really good shots from where I was. That was mainly cause I took a video of the launch going up. Here's mine:

Here's some pics that my buddy Mike took from his house. He lives outside of Cape Canaveral and has an uber camera. He always gets good shots:

We caught it on CNN, and WOW. I just love watching these, it's so exciting.
I'd love to catch one of those live sometime, personally.

I just think the money used in sending rockets into space could be better used on people here on Earth.

You ever consider that the money they use to send those rockets up generate high paying jobs and quality scientific experiments that better life on earth?
Better than pumping those monies into welfare programs.

<<I just think the money used in sending rockets into space could be better used on people here on Earth.>>
We send satellites into space and some of them exist solely to directly improve life on Earth.
But you're right. Fuck science. Technology doesn't do anything.

F-ing awesome. Thanks! I’d love to go down to the Cape and watch one day.

It's good to know that the NIH can be sapped because of God, but Mars, biotches!, (<3 The Chappelle Show) still has all its life-savvy therepeutic potential intact to help save human lives by building forcefield bubbledomes to protect us for the invasion by the Cardassian terrorists.
Not that I discredit science, being in the science field and all, but I credit prioritization.

It's hardly like 100% of the national budget goes to NASA, either. Stripping funds from something that provides tangible technological and scientific benefits, as well as economic ones, would be pretty stupid, especially in comparison to most of the pork that gets shoved through.

Closest I’ve been is seeing the Enterprise on display at the National Air and Space Museum Udvar-Hazy Center (http://www.nasm.si.edu/udvarhazy/) out here near Dulles. The place is incredible. They have a stealth bomber, the Enola Gay, and just about every airplane type ever made in one form or another.
Here is the Enterprise.

I really want to go see one live one day. I'd love to be able to see a live night time launch. I think that would be absolutely amazing. The only hard part is that they scrub them so often, that it would be hard to justify a trip to see one if there wasn't a way to put a buffer of a couple days after the set launch date.
I definitely get goosebumps every time I see one go off, and I'm not even anywhere near it. I think that I'd probably cry or something if I was right there to witness it (yeah I'm a sap.)
