View Full Version : Over the Hedge: Appreciation post
Sat down and watched Over the Hedge with my son yesterday evening and I laughed through the entire movie.
The vague cameo references to the actors doing the voices were outstanding.
"must...go...to...the...light..." - possum playing dead (William Shatner)
The actress who voiced the skunk was hillarious.. A+
The script for the HOA President lady was exactly like a few I've had to deal with when I'm working with residential home sales.
And squirrel was the SHITZNIT. Especially when he drank the energy drink in the end.
If you have not watched this with your kid, you need to. The laughter alone has to be good for you.

I watched the 2nd half of this the other day.
I thought it was just like every other kids movie, the attempts at humor were very predictable and uninspired. I found the movie boring myself.
Maybe if I had been watching with a small child it would've been more amusing.?

It's a good watch with kids. You don't find yourself searching for a rifle to off yourself. Though, OPEN SEASON was horrible.

The Wild was awesome, I think. The plotline had been done before, but Eddie Izzard utterly stole the movie.

Lol I enjoyed Open Season too..(SEND IN MR. HAPPY!) but I'll give the edge to Over the Hedge.
The skunk was Wanda Sykes.. she's a funny bitch. And rofl at Shatner's over acting as an animation. Pretty sure the squirrel was Steve Carell.
At any rate my kids laugh their ass off whilst watching it and I certainly had a great time watching it with them.

You don't have kids therefore you have no excuse for watching these movies other than being less than hetero.

CT brings up a valid point. Couple that with the fact we post on an unofficial text based RP game message board, and I bet all of you watch cartoons of some sort.

I'm the coolest guy on the text based RPG forum, epitomy of nerd masculinity, I don't watch cartoons!
(Edit: dangit... skeet beat me too it.)
There have been some pretty good kid movies lately... there have also been some absolutely refuse encrusted pieces of shit. If I'm going to watch a kids movie though, it better be animated, because live kid movies suck ass.
Meet the Robinson's was pretty funny, Shrek 3 wasn't nearly as good as the first but better than the 2nd, haven't seen hedge or wild or open season though.... Madagascar penguins > all kid cartoon characters.
So far I've seen a lot, but the ones below are worth mentioning.
Over the Hedge
Madagascar
Cars
Shrek 1
Older ones we have that my son like and I'll tolerate to watch:
Monsters Inc.
Little Bear
...and some others I cant recall off the top of my head.

The squirrel was done by Steve Carrell (Evan Baxter from Bruce Almighty, 40 year old virgin, yada yada). And I loved the movie, personally. We took the kids to see it in theatres when it first came out. Squirrel was by far my favorite.

I can wait to see him in Evan Almighty.
The squirrel (Hammy) is probably the second best kid character out there, right behind the penguins.

I'm really looking forward to Evan Almighty as well, actually. Steve Carrell is awesomeness in a bottle. :D

I loved this movie and my daughter even after all this time still quotes Himmy, always makes me laugh (but I LIKE the cookie).
We watched monster house last night, now there's a sucky kids movie. 90 minutes of my life I'll never get back.

The funniest part for me is that my hubby's name is Steve and when they started worshipping the hedge "Oh great and powerful Steeeeeeeve!" we both started cracking up.
Told him I'd get that on a sound bite for when he called my phone :lolwave:
