Well, I desided to live on the edge today..my rogue did his first pull from someone that can cream him big time. I could not resist when he put the gem in his pack..I HAD to try for it..and, here it is.

Chomm put a smoky grey thunderstone in his leaf-patterned pack.
>steal chomm pack
You reach into Chomm's leaf-patterned pack and pull out a smoky grey thunderstone.
You do not believe anyone noticed you slip out of hiding.

I actually got away with it scot free. w00t

[Abandoned Farm, Parlor]
The bannisters are missing from the stairway leading upstairs from the parlor. As elsewhere in this house, everything is either broken or crushed. Tattered cloths droop from warped curtain rods over the arched windows. You also see a sturdy maoral trunk, a zombie and a stairway.
Also here: Kasia
Obvious exits: west

So another change to GS4 stealing is that being hidden now helps?

JustMe

If I remember correctly stealing from hiding increases your chance of being caught.

Correct me if I'm wrong though.

You reach into Emislity's white longcloak and pull out a blue crystal.

You reach into Emislity's white longcloak and pull out an emerald. [W00t!]

Then I went on to get about 5 black crystals, 2 white crystals, and 4 blue crystals from Kadumi.

Then 2 black crystals and an aquamarine gem from some wizard.

I also stole about 500 coins from Warclaidhm.

I had always heard it increases your chances. Anyone know if it got changed?

Falgrin/ParkBandit would be the one to ask. I am still a relative noob to the stealing game compared to him.

What I remember, hiding increase the change to get BETTER stuff but increase your change of being caught.

Of course i was a rogue in gs3, not in gs4

From my experience, you really don't need to hide, if you choose the right time/place.

What made it all the more better was that Bob couldn't kill my lvl 12 halfling, so he had to send a 25+ Wizard to get me. When he did eventually find me, he pretty much held me immobile in the middle of my hunting grounds while Bob was on his way. Heh, thankfully a grey orc did the job of killing before the tool could arrive, so I got fogged away and raised. Ah, such fun.

Stealing from hiding does not increase your chance of getting better stuff because you can actually specify what you want to steal: steal gem from mark cloak

Stealing from hiding lowers your chances of getting caught.
