So, as part of the ongoing quest in Solhaven, Lothwyn decides to run an auction for the contents of some sealed lockboxes. He makes several posts on the boards that nothing inside the boxes will be grand auction quality, not even merchant quality, most likely simply mundane items non scripted non magical items, but as I was sure would happen...no one would listen.
Here are the prices paid for these mystery boxes and what was in each, if known (most of the names were anagrams related to what was inside):
-----------------------------
Oinwen says, "This is locker # 7777 and it belonged to Finnie Simpean."
1 Million silvers for it, and it had some women's clothing.
Oinwen says, "The next box is 5543. It belonged to Jedrezickyn."
750k silvers for it, and it had some teacups and a broken teapot
Oinwen says, "This box is number 3785."
Oinwen says, "It belonged to Pengratia."
900k silvers for it, and it had some baby related items (a rattle, some booties, etc...)
Oinwen says, "The next box is 3075. It belonged to someone named Amelias."
1 Million silvers for a tote with a hairbrush and some combs
Oinwen says, "Box 1212 belonged to a man named Rkeabbin Dabkooc."
1.2 million, unknown contents, buyer kept it secret
Oinwen says, "This next box belonged to Rinohgli Vornabit."
Oinwen says, "The box number is 9913."
4 million, unknown contents, buyer kept it secret
Oinwen says, "The next box is number 0019."
Oinwen says, "It belonged to Nevendrim Olstar."
2 million, unknown contents buyer kept it secret
Oinwen says, "The next box is 8765."
Oinwen says, "It belongs to someone named Sregnif Elbmin."
2 million, bunch of broken lockpicks
Oinwen says, "The next box belongs to Eloisena Strin, the number is 2078."
4.2 million, unknown contents buyer kept it secret
---------------
No special abilities, no even non-special abilities, just junk, and that's what people pay when a GM sells "mystery boxes" Awesome.

So....what was in them? Or was it just a big scam?
Nevermind, I answered myself.

Just stuff you would normally find uncommonly on creatures. No scripts, no magic items, no enhancers, no weapons or armor, just fluff junk. It wasn't a big scam because Lothwyn tried his damndest to convince people multiple times that this was exactly what should have been expected.

Why was he auctioning them in the first place, then?

It was a way to advance the baron getting accused bit. The tenth box sold to a 'cloaked figure' for 25mil that turned out to be the baron's son, S-something. The he found some letters proving his innocence(?) or some sort of evidence that he needed.
Sorry I'm not clearer, but having not paid any attention to the storyline, that's about all I picked up from it.

Correct. The event was held in order to further the plotline, and Lothwyn went so far as to point out nothing of value would be gained by winning a lot of items.
I suppose many bidded on the off chance of basically buying your way into a prime spot in a NPC lead event.

Oinwen says, "It belonged to Pengratia."

Why would he promote this in the game? Le Sigh.
So I was looking at the names, and I figured out a couple:
"Box 1212 belonged to a man named Rkeabbin Dabkooc."
... Bad Cook
Oinwen says, "The next box is 8765."
Oinwen says, "It belongs to someone named Sregnif Elbmin."
... Nimble Fingers
What are the rest? Just curoius.

I did not bid to get a prime spot in anything.
Anyone who knows Katee knows she does not want to be the center of anything.
She thought it would be fun to get a mystery box.
The tea cups are all usable and have longs.

But you have to admit Katee, that the prices paid were ludicrous. Nothing there should have gone for more than 100k. I would not have had any problems if people had paid reasonable prices...but I knew that wouldn't happen.

I agree that the pricing was out of control.
I had already told myself my limit was 1 mil.
I don't have anything I really want right now so why not?
I lost more than that at DB in like 20 minutes.
The 4mil boxes made me laugh. I know what is in at least one of the boxes that are unrevealed and it was worth every penny.
My box was the true crap box of the night. I think the rest at least had scripted or functional items.
14 tea cups, even with longs are eh.
But it was fun I only paid 750K.
And the swarms that came that had no interest in Solhaven until there was something to be had always bother me.
After this is all over folks will move on as they always do and that will be that.

I bid 10mil just to be an asshole. I knew there was no way a player was going to get a hold of that last box.

To be fair, why wouldn't they come for an auction? Regardless of whether or not it was involved in the storyline, it was a public auction listed in the NEWS and available to anyone. There is absolutely no reason why someone from another town, especially a merchant or collector, would not show up to this. Its kind of like expecting a dealer to miss a car show.

I thought about coming until it was clearly stated that there would be nothing of real value. Nothing wrong with getting involved in a storyline, especially when they give you an "in" like this.

LOL.
Do they stil sell "Mystery Backpacks" and other nonsense in GS? Why is this any different?
Merchandising in GS is a complete and utter joke.

I think that's where we differ. I considered some of what was found in those boxes to be valuable RP wise, but definitely not silver-wise. Some of the items were pretty cool just from a history/RP perspective.

True. But what likelihood is there of any of those items meaning something to a Dhe'nari sorcerer?

lol tourism? That's like complaining about a ton of people showing up in Bethel for Woodstock and then leaving when it was over (if you actually do complain about this, nevermind, there's no helping you).
