Over in the Roleplaying thread I mentioned the fact that I found something odd when the treasure digging game was in Solhaven over the past weekend. It was "a rusty steel shard." At first, I thought it was just junk like the majority of the usual stuff you pull out of the ground while digging, but I was curious when it appraised for 12k at the pawnshop, so I had it sung to and found out it was one of a set of disk altering magical items that have been released.

Apparently there is a painting, a dragon figurine, a scarf, a toy looking like a sheep and something else to deal with a spider that create a unique looking disk when raised. They were given out as a contest prize and a raffle at EG 2005. They are all different.

So I finally decided to test the thing out, here's what it looks like when you activate it with a disk...

You raise a rusty steel shard overhead. A faint, unpleasant hum begins to emanate from the shard, and an aura of dark red light glows around it before lashing out to strike your disk. With a sound like a steel golem clambering back to its feet, hundreds of rusty blades grow from the sides of the disk. The light fades away, but the hum remains, coming now from the disk.

The disk now appears in the room as "the blade-edged Revalos disk"

When you LOOK at it:

Dull, rust-covered black blades project from the disk's sides in chaotic profusion. As it hovers, it spins slowly in midair, and a high, faint whine like the drone of a mosquito emanates from it. The blade-edged Revalos disk is hovering in mid-air around you.

If you do it again after it has changed or without a disk:

You raise a rusty steel shard overhead. A faint, unpleasant hum begins to emanate from the shard, and an aura of dark red light glows around it. After a moment, both the hum and the light fade away.

The only downside appears to be that they are difficult to recharge, but I'm quite happy with finding it.

So...Gems go out to the designer of the treasure digging game, GM Scribes or whomever decided to randomly show up in Solhaven on Sunday, and to whomever designed a wonderful little magic trick and got it out to us players who love little things like this.

Yea, I had one and managed to get it recharged a ton via merchant. Sold it after that, but, it's a really awesome item.

I've got the painting!

I haven't found a recharger willing to touch it so I use it sparingly myself. I do let friends use it just so people can pester them about their wonky disks.

There was a treasure digging game in Solhaven recently? And I missed it!?!

That is a kick ass item, btw.

I asked Conveil whether he would work with disk changers, and he said he would. He'd already chosen who he'd worked for at the time, so I couldn't get mine worked on.

I'd definately like to highlight the names of whatever merchants will work on charging this (given the lack of recharging merchants that will be around anymore per Khaladon). I'd really like them to make it AG rechargable, even if it was like 2000 bounty points for a full charge, I'd do it.

Oof... yeah 2k bounty for a full charge would be awesome for this... the cheap +4 dex/+3 brawling bracers cost something like 1.5k bounty points to charge, and it's not "full charge" it just gives it some more charges (I don't think anyone's figured out the amount you get... which is why I was all excited about thinking this was AG rechargable).

Isn't 1.5k bounty points like, 2 or 3 tasks? That doesn't seem too obscene for a full charge of something, that's like an hour of hunting, and a charge of this disk thing can potentially last much longer.

Pretty sure this depends on your level, but yeah, it's not a ton

It's not a full charge, it just adds charges, and the way enhancive item charges work seems to be completely random and unknown. I couldn't tell you if a charge is an hour or a day, or if you get 1 or 10 charges by "recharging" with AG points.

Hell...my giftbox item costs 16.5k or something BPs to charge just a wee tad. I guess +5Dex/+5Int is supposed to be godliness or something. Damn I wish mine cost 1.5k. Well, I guess maybe 2k BPs for a partial charge would be acceptable then.
